[Vol. 5] Chapter 28: Something’s Very Wrong!
After discussing with Jessica, Ifia immediately decided to set off. They wanted to see if they could find any clues at Stefan Parch’s shop!
With Ifia leading the way, Jessica’s mother naturally wouldn’t stop them. Instead, she smiled and saw them off until the carriage went far away. Even then, they could still see her standing in the same spot, waving enthusiastically towards the carriage.
Once Jessica lowered the carriage curtain, she shrugged helplessly at Ifia.
“Ifia, my mom is being too deliberate, it’s really unbearable.”
Jessica understood deep down that even though her mother had changed her attitude towards Ifia since learning at the dock that Ifia was Miss Barlen’s friend, she still maintained her aristocratic demeanor because Ifia was still a commoner. It was only due to Miss Barlen’s prestige that she didn’t dare to bully Ifia recklessly.
However, after learning two days ago that Ifia and Miss Barlen had become a couple, Jessica couldn’t contain her excitement and eventually couldn’t resist telling her close friends about the news. Upon hearing this news, Jessica’s mother was shocked and stunned.
When she finally reacted, she eagerly asked Jessica to invite Ifia over as a guest, hoping to leverage the connection with the Barlen family to further expand their own influence.
With a ‘backing’ like that, other families would hesitate to cause trouble.
However, Jessica only listened to her mother’s words for the sake of it. She wasn’t that kind of person!
She and Ifia are very good friends, unlike those noble ladies her mother associates with, who just laugh with their fans covering their mouths every day, so hypocritical!
Moreover, when she mentioned Austin’s suspected infidelity, Ifia immediately came to help!
Unlike her family, who always told her to endure because of Austin’s status as the next head of the family and didn’t want to miss the opportunity to befriend Austin’s family.
In comparison… sob, Ifia is really great, she’s so touched!
“It’s okay, I’m your friend, not your mom’s friend. Just saying hello when we meet is enough.”
Seeing Jessica’s pouty cheeks, Ifia immediately comforted her, and at the same time, mischievously reached out and poked Jessica’s cheek, causing Jessica, who was touched, to immediately glare at her and stop Ifia from ‘misbehaving’ further.
To this, Ifia chuckled, her black eyes curved, her sweet smile as if she had spilled a can of honey. It was sweet to the core.
It made Jessica couldn’t help but raise her hand to cover her chest, displaying a look of being captivated, then sighed and said, “Ifia, I suddenly realized, you’re becoming more and more beautiful, I’m almost falling in love with you!”
“……”
Facing Jessica’s exaggerated acting, Ifia narrowed her black eyes slightly.
Trying to tease her?
Not possible.
“So Jessica, you like me this much, huh? Once we confirm Austin’s infidelity, I’ll just dump Amelia and we’ll travel the world together…”
“No, no, no, Ifia, spare me, please! I still want to live a few more years!”
Upon hearing Ifia’s words, Jessica immediately returned to normal, then clasped her hands together in front of her, begging for mercy repeatedly…
She wouldn’t compete with Amelia for a woman unless she wanted to end her life!
Miss Barlen could provide her with ten thousand ways to experience death…
“Humph, coward!”
“I’m just being practical!”
As the two bantered, the carriage sped up. When it stopped in front of the shop run by Stefan Parch, Ifia and Jessica deliberately put on black lace veiled hats, covering half of their faces.
Stepping out of the carriage, Ifia curiously looked up at the shop sign and saw the words ?Magical World?.
Wow!
If Jessica hadn’t explained in advance, just from the shop’s name alone, one would have a hard time guessing what it sells!
Are you afraid the merchandise won’t sell?
Perhaps it was Ifia’s bewildered expression that prompted Jessica to nudge her arm with her elbow and then lean in to explain in her ear, “This shop is inherited. It’s already well-known among the nobility, so it doesn’t lack customers.”
Actually, even commoners don’t need these potions. Only the wealthy nobles with plenty of disposable income and a thirst for excitement are interested in buying all sorts of odd things just to make life more interesting.
“In that case, we’ll pretend to be customers buying potions later, but remember not to expose ourselves!”
Listening to Jessica’s explanation, Ifia responded earnestly, her voice filled with seriousness, which left Jessica with countless question marks floating above her head.
Why were they buying these potions?
They couldn’t… wait, something’s not right!
Something’s very wrong!
Jessica immediately stared straight at Ifia, her eyes as sharp as a hawk’s, as if trying to catch any hidden intentions. Ifia felt a bit uneasy but didn’t show it.
“Ifia, you’re not using this opportunity for personal gain, are you? Buying potions to do something sneaky!”
Naturally, Ifia wouldn’t admit to Jessica’s suspicion.
She stiffened her neck to defend herself, “How could it be? I mainly came this time to help you investigate, but it would be too suspicious if we entered the shop and didn’t buy anything! Especially in a shop that caters to a specific buying group like this. The owner isn’t stupid, they’ll definitely be on guard against us!”
Once she got past the initial explanation, she continued, “Plus, didn’t you say you spent a lot of money buying information? Your wallet must be feeling pretty empty, while my savings are overflowing and I can’t possibly spend it all. Of course, I should help you share the burden a bit.”
“Or is it that you don’t need my help, Jessica? In that case, you can just spend your own money!”
Although Jessica had traded with the locals in Taric and acquired a fair amount of gold, upon returning home, a portion was immediately ‘collected’ by her family, and another portion was taken by her parents. In the end, Jessica didn’t have much gold left.
Therefore, Ifia’s words made sense.
In fact, upon hearing Ifia’s words, Jessica immediately regretted it.
How could she suspect her innocent and pure little friend like that!
Ifia must have felt sorry for her loss of both money and valuables, so she wanted to provide a little kind help, but she suspected Ifia had ulterior motives. It was really unfair!
“Sob, Ifia, I was wrong to doubt you. You’re so good to me!”
“Alright, alright, let’s go in quickly.”
Seeing that she had placated Jessica, Ifia resisted the urge to pat her chest and let out a sigh of relief. Instead, she pretended to be still angry and directly pushed open the door of the shop.
As soon as they entered the shop, they found themselves in a normal reception hall. Shortly after, a female attendant approached them with a smile.
She respectfully greeted Ifia and Jessica and then asked, “Good afternoon, esteemed ladies. Would you like to browse around first, or would you prefer to go directly to a designated area?”
“We are here for the first time, what is the designated area?”
Ifia blinked in confusion.
Wasn’t this a place to sell potions?
Why were there designated areas???
What else could they be selling apart from potions?
(;O_O)!
