[Vol. 5] Chapter 53: Forgotten Memories
???
Was this her own thoughts?
Ifia looked down at the blue pendant in her hand, her face filled with confusion. She blinked in surprise, feeling that something was off.
She had used the Tears of Truth before, even eavesdropped on other nobles’ inner thoughts, but she never bothered to listen to her own inner voice out of boredom.
Still, even so, why did her own thoughts sound so strange!!!
Just the phrase “run away” gave her an ominous feeling. Not to mention, Amelia’s name was mentioned at the forefront, along with deception and so on.
After a brainstorming session, Ifia felt like her head was about to explode. She pursed her lips, feeling that thinking more about it was useless, so she decided to try again.
So, she placed the blue pendant around her neck once more, even pressing it firmly with her palm, attempting to hear more thoughts. And while Ifia steadied her emotions and remained calm, her thoughts actually connected smoothly.
(Amelia used magic on me, causing me to forget memories within the past ten days.)
(She wants to destroy this world.)
(Using magical plants to summon demons is a scam. The demons in Darwa City were all dispatched by Amelia.)
(Austin discovered Amelia’s true identity and wanted to gather nobles to expose the truth, but because of me, everything is ruined. Amelia found out.)
As Ifia heard more thoughts, her face gradually grew pale. Her tightly pursed lips remained closed, but her black eyes flashed with a hint of shock, followed by panic.
Honestly, with Amelia’s care and concern for her, even knowing that Amelia wanted to destroy the world, Ifia wouldn’t be afraid of her. She was convinced that Amelia would never harm her.
But what scared Ifia was the possibility of Amelia casually erasing her memories! Perhaps not just this one time.
However, Ifia still held a glimmer of hope in her heart, perhaps the Tears of Truth was malfunctioning. Reading her own thoughts might not be accurate. It could lead to false illusions.
She needed to recall what had happened during this time and see if she could find any clues. However, the more she thought, the more despair filled Ifia’s heart…
For example, when Jessica visited, her face was pale, and her physical condition was not very good, completely contrary to the still-in-love state. However, when asked, Jessica said she and Austin were doing fine, still sweet and romantic.
As Ifia delved deeper into her thoughts, fragments of memories seemed to escape from a secret box, swiftly entering her mind and unfolding into vivid scenes. Moments from her past experiences played out before her eyes like a movie.
Ifia subconsciously tightened her grip on the blue pendant in her hand, her body gradually slumping to the ground.
The sense of hope she had harbored was shattered completely, and now she could only face the harsh reality.
Amelia had indeed made her forget recent memories!
And the reason for wanting to destroy the world came back to her: it was because Amelia wanted her to be by her side forever, to never age or die.
Immortality!
Therefore, she had to destroy this world and return to the original one in order to achieve that.
In this moment, she realized that the reason for the world’s destruction was her!!!
She couldn’t help but lift her other hand to cover her eyes, a bitter smile forming on her lips. Despite feeling extremely heavy-hearted, she didn’t know what to say.
Blame Amelia? She didn’t want to.
Ifia knew in her heart that she was a vested interest. Even though others might have various reasons to blame or resent Amelia, she couldn’t.
She just felt suffocated inside and didn’t want Amelia to actually go through with destroying the world.
Ifia had been living in this world for quite some time now. It had transitioned from the world within the book to reality, where the people she knew were all living beings, with flesh and blood.
Destroying this world would mean their deaths too.
Ifia didn’t want to see such an outcome. But staying with Amelia was difficult. After all, the previous version of her had been forced to forget memories…
With a complex mood, Ifia lowered her hand from covering her eyes. She paused for a moment, then slowly stood up from the ground and placed the blue pendant back into its compartment.
She closed the doors on either side of the cabinet, then sat stiffly in front of the dressing table. She saw her expressionless self in the mirror.
Ifia tried to force a smile, but her lips remained stiff, unable to curve upwards. In the end, she gave up.
With her thoughts in turmoil, Ifia realized she didn’t have a good solution. Her only choice was to contact the system and see if it could stop Amelia’s plan.
[System, I remember now. Amelia wants to destroy the world.]
Ifia didn’t want to beat around the bush with the system.
But rather, she got straight to the point. However, the system had gone into sleep mode and couldn’t receive messages promptly…
This resulted in Ifia calling out several times without hearing a reply from the system.
It made Ifia wonder whether the system was intentionally pretending not to hear or if there were other reasons. Either way, it wasn’t good news for her.
Now, when she needed the system, it didn’t come out, but when she didn’t need it, it always seemed to make its presence known. Unable to contact the system, Ifia could only give up and continue pondering alone.
Faced with a clearly dire situation, what should she do? It’s not like she would end it all out of guilt. Sorry, but Ifia didn’t consider herself that saintly, nor would she be so extreme.
After all, it’s better to be alive than dead… Even though she had previously been indifferent and passive, it didn’t mean she constantly thought of suicide. She simply went with the flow.
But if she didn’t take any action, this world would be destroyed! As for running away or something similar…
Ifia didn’t consider herself stronger than Amelia, the demon.
She couldn’t vanish without a trace. She feared that if she left home, she’d be caught and brought back in no time.
After much thought, Ifia ultimately decided she should discuss with the system to see if there was a solution. Even though she couldn’t summon the system now, she didn’t believe it would stay dormant forever.
The memories forgotten due to Amelia’s use of magic didn’t all return, and those that did were shown in playback mode, so Ifia didn’t fully empathize, she merely watched.
Therefore, even though the words in her thoughts carried fear, Ifia couldn’t fully immerse herself in them. This was also why, despite hearing herself urging to run, Ifia didn’t immediately comply.
But when she thought about the system, she felt like she had forgotten something.
What was it?
Furrowing her brow, Ifia racked her brain, feeling it was crucial to remember quickly.
Then, in a flash, it came to her.
Suddenly, Ifia raised her hand to her abdomen, feeling a bit panicked.
That blasted system had actually made her pregnant with twins!!!
