5-30. Sharing Information

Ouren was rummaging through the corpses. However, his search seemed fruitless, and he sighed in disappointment. Noticing our approach, he turned to face us, waving lightly as usual, though a shadow seemed to linger in his eyes.

Despite the slightly suspicious aura surrounding him, we continued to approach without slowing down. As we neared, Karna grabbed Ouren by the shoulders.

“O-Ouren-san! Did you k-kill them!?”

“Huh? Oh… yeah. Got angry,” Ouren replied nonchalantly.

“Too late…!” Mom lamented, clearly upset. There must have been a reason not to kill the angels. Worried, Ouren asked hesitantly, “Uh… was that bad?”

“The angels are trying to blame you for this whole incident. They’re telling the townsfolk that they’re protecting them from the revival of an evil god and that they’re the heroes.”

“What!? But they’re the ones who destroyed everything!”

“That’s exactly it! They’re using the chaos to frame you! The townsfolk now believe the angels are fighting to protect them from an evil god. Killing them makes you look like the villain.”

“Yeah, that makes sense. Killing them really does make me look bad,” Ouren admitted, scratching his head in frustration.

The angels had planned this from the start. They intended to bury Lize, who was asleep in the Potodera Dungeon, making it difficult to revive her, while simultaneously destroying the Kilrock territory and blaming it on the revival of an evil god. This manipulation would make the townsfolk more loyal to the angels. Although Ouren’s presence might not have been anticipated, his actions only made the angels’ narrative more convincing. It was unlikely anyone would believe our side of the story now.

The angels successfully secured the loyalty of the Kilrock territory’s residents. While their influence increased only slightly, this was still the territory of the Auram Kingdom. Eventually, word would reach the capital, further bolstering the angels’ power. Although it was troublesome, it wouldn’t happen immediately, giving us some time before new enemies arose.

However, we couldn’t allow neighboring countries to fall under angel’s control. We needed to find a way to break this situation, but first, we had our own matters to handle. We still lacked sufficient information. Amariaz pointed to the woman I was carrying and made a request to Ouren.

“Ouren-san, can you heal this person?”

“Who is she?” Ouren asked.

“She was given a pseudo-skill by the angels,” Amariaz explained.

“”!!””

Ouren and Mom immediately became cautious, but Amariaz quickly assured them, “She was controlled, so she should be harmless now.”

Ouren scrutinized the woman for a moment. Recognizing the potential importance of the information she might hold and seeing that we were all present, he agreed. He instructed me to lay her down and then restrained her hands with ‘Infinite Water Bind’ before beginning to heal her.

“‘Great Heal’”

A green-tinged light enveloped the woman before fading quickly. The healing seemed to be complete, but she remained unconscious. Ouren turned to Amariaz for more information.

“So, what happened with her?”

“She attacked us while we were investigating the church. She had skills like ‘Spear Strengthening’ for throwing spears and ‘Spear Creation’ for summoning them.”

“Two skills? Modern humans aren’t supposed to have skills, right?”

“Not usually, unless they’re exceptions like Karna-san.”

“Then it’s likely those were pseudo-skills.”

The angels’ goal in Kilrock was now clearer. We had secured someone possibly with pseudo-skills, and we had some documents from the church, which might be useful later. Although the angels succeeded in their immediate plans, the Potodera Dungeon remained intact. It wasn’t an urgent priority anymore, and Lize could be rescued later. Without the angels planning to enter the dungeon, there was no immediate rush.

“Did you find out anything on your end, Ouren-san?” I asked.

“Yeah… The angels I fought were weak.”

“Weak?” I was skeptical since Ouren’s standards for weakness were likely very high.

“They had very few skills… for angels, anyway. Each had only one or two,” Ouren explained.

“That’s very few! Really? Ouren-san, are you sure?” I pressed.

“Don’t get so excited… Yeah, I’m sure. One had a tracking throw skill, another had a ‘Stop’ skill, and another had ‘Indiscriminate Reversal,’ which reflected damage. That one killed some fleeing humans,” Ouren said, pointing to one of the angel corpses.

But where he pointed, there was only a puddle of red with barely any visible remains.

“Uh… what’s that?” I asked, disturbed.

“An angel.”

“It’s unrecognizable!” I exclaimed.

“I got really angry and went overboard. That’s all,” Ouren stated matter-of-factly.

I shuddered at the thought of what he must have done and took a step back.

“Ugh…”

The woman began to awake.
