Teachings of Aetherism
This world is hell, in which people are in a cycle of samsara, repeating life and death. However, this will be a perpetual state of suffering, so by believing in and reverencing Aether God in the course of day-to-day life, one can be liberated from the cycle of samsara when Aether God descends to the Holy Land someday. The specific interpretations of faith for this purpose are as follows.
・”Faith is nothing more than the heart.”
In the mundane world, where life itself entails hardship and suffering, it is difficult to maintain a profound faith. Therefore, in order for even the poorest person to have faith, it is considered adequate to pray in the morning and at night, and to visit a church once a month. Those who are in charge of politics (priests, presiding priests, and bishops) must focus on propagating Aetherism and teaching and guiding the believers.
When life ends, it is born anew as another life (reincarnation). This is repeated until the promised day, but the new incarnation is not necessarily a human being. Being born into the same human being and into a prosperous family depends on how much one has devoted one’s faith to the Aether God in the previous life. Consequently, in modern times, it is believed that those who had little or no faith in their previous lives, such as those of the slave class, are reincarnated.
・Regarding people of other religions
Aetherism, which places emphasis on the religious beliefs of its followers, is tolerant of what is generally regarded as evil acts but is strict toward those who do not have faith. First, believers should absolutely proselytize and be tolerant of those who have not developed faith, but not of those who downgrade their faith in God as human beings. In concrete terms, it is said that those who are not believers and who steal or commit arson will become demi-humans (goblins, orcs, and other hideous life forms that can never be reincarnated as humans) in the next life unless they awaken to the faith.
