A Demon Lord’s Tale: Dungeons, Monster Girls, and Heartwarming Bliss - Chapter 584.1
Riou and Yuki
–One day.
“Your ears are so cute.” (Yuki)
“Ahh, uuh!” (Riou)
Riou had been fast asleep until just now, but she woke up, so I soothed her.
When I played with her ears, Riou laughed happily and flapped her arms and legs. She’s an angel.
Riou had become quite capable of expressing her emotions.
She could recognize and play with toys by hitting, pinching, rolling, biting, etc., and we never got bored with watching her.
She’s getting bigger. She could now crawl, it was an incredible display of growth.
Setsu has grown up quickly, but looking at the little ones now, Riou and Sakuya seemed to be growing up quickly as well. Their daily rhythm had become more regular, and their daily cycle, which used to be unrelated to day and night, was now almost the same as ours.
I was happy to see my children grow up, but at the same time, I felt lonely as they got bigger and bigger. I had conflicting feelings.
And I wanted them to continue growing up like this and be able to communicate properly. But deep inside, I also felt like I wanted to take care of these cute, tiny babies for a longer time.
Well, it was a bit troubling when dealing with the manipulative Sakuya, but Riou was just adorable.
My son was already something special. There were not so many babies who manipulated adults the way he did. The word “frightening child” seemed to have been made for him.
But, Sakuya. Unfortunately, my family was made up of women.
You have four mothers, seven sisters, and a pet. When you grew up, you would surely be played with. It was certain that you would go from being the one manipulating others to be the one being manipulated.
Stay strong…
“Riou, my family is full of weirdos. We all have special attributes, and your brother Sakuya is pretty special too. In fact, Sakuya might be the most special in our family. But… you’re just a normal kid.” (Yuki)
She inherited the blood of a Demon Lord.
But that was all. She was not like Sakuya, who inherited my blood and Lefi’s blood and evolved in some weird way.
“But there’s no need to worry about that at all. Your specialties just make you something unique, it doesn’t mean anything more. What’s important is what you do with the cards you have.” (Yuki)
After living in this world for a while now, I felt that way, especially now.
I’d seen many people, each being different from the other.
Starting from an all powerful dragon with incredible abilities, to a demon who used his brain as a weapon and eventually became the leader of the world, and a human who, with resolve and determination, started a war against the world for his country.
There were many others, but compared to them, I was simply born with a particularly strong body, a Demon Lord.
If one ignored super-creatures like Lefi, being a Demon Lord was undoubtedly a stronger card if compared to others, and it was thanks to that power that I had been able to live until today. If I were an ordinary person, I would have died a long time ago.
But… power alone would not be enough. Powers and abilities like physical advantage were nothing more than having one or two more cards that you could keep in your hand.
Still, even if one had a strong enough card, the world was not so simple that you could win just by playing that card on the field.
I realized that, so I have lived until today by racking my brain, or borrowing the power of wise people.
I have recently come to think that the greatest weapon of humanity was “thinking.”
