A Great Man Who Does Not Appear in Magic History - Chapter 10
The kitchen.
Guiche, wearing an apron, was shaking a frying pan and flipping pancakes over. Shannon was sitting at the table with two forks in her hand, waiting excitedly.
Guiche stacked three pancakes on the plate in front of her. Shannon’s blue eyes sparkled.
?Shannon: Whoah…!?
?Guiche: Seven left to go.?
Guiche headed to the stove again, grabbed a bowl, and poured pancake leaven into the frying pan.
?Shannon: Guiche, tell me something awesome!?
Shannon turned around in her chair with a smile and said.
?Shannon: Papa’s amazing. He’s gonna give Shannon a Mami too.?
Shaking the pan, Guiche flipped three pancakes at the same time.
?Guiche: I see. That’s great.?
?Will he become a great man??
Shannon asked in anticipation.
Guiche said earlier that it would be impossible considering his bad personality, so she must be wanting him to highlight her father’s good qualities.
Guiche was staring at the frying pan, not answering right away.
?…Have you heard of the magic stone disease before??
?Shannon: What’s that??
?Guiche: An incurable disease that morphs your body into a magic stone. A student at Anderdezun Magic Academy was researching it because his father had it. But there’s no way a student could have found a cure.?
Guiche spoke calmly.
?Guiche: A few days before he died, the father told his son: ?One day, your research and mine will bear fruit and save many people. My life will not have been a waste.??
Guiche had an image in his head about his father talking to him in his bed.
?Guiche: However, the superior of the father who came to his funeral wrote him off as a babbling buffoon who had died in vain, leaving behind no research results.?
?Bad guy. Shannon hates him.?
Shannon said with a disgusted look on her face.
?…His son couldn’t retaliate.?
?Guiche: His superior was the top dog of the Ministry of Magic: Minister of General Magic, Golberd Adem. The mere student wouldn’t even have been able to get him to look his way.?
“Grrrr”, Shannon seethed in anger
?Guiche: However, despite the son being frightened besides himself, Ein told Golberd off right to his face.?
?Shannon: Kicked his ass!?
Shannon was happily throwing out punches.
?Guiche: Which is why he was expelled from the magic academy. He’ll never get a degree again. It’s an old tradition that a magician without a degree can’t have his name published in the academia. He won’t even be registered in the history of magic.?
?Is not being in magic history bad??
Shannon asked curiously.
?Guiche: He can hold a license. Fame however, is another story.?
Guiche piled three baked pancakes on a plate.
?Guiche: If he had bowed his head and said that he was wrong, he probably wouldn’t have gotten expelled. If he did, he’d be a great man by now who had left his name in the history of magic while still among the living.?
As he baked the remaining pancakes, Guiche had somewhat of a distant look in his eyes.
?Papa’s gonna be a great man.?
Shannon said, hung up on that one thread.
?Guiche: He’s arrogant, bigoted, and has no social skills to speak of, but he’s sincere when it comes to magic. There’s no way someone with so much respect for for the Twelve Great Saints wouldn’t want that.?
But…
Guiche looked back on the past.
Young Ein told him:
??I don’t care if he’s the damn prime minister or whatnot, I’m not letting anyone look down on magic, Guiche.
?Guiche: Stupid bastard. I’ve missed you.?
Guiche turned around, forlorn.

Evening??
Gateway to the Old Castle.
Guiche said on his way home.
?I’ll be on my way then; don’t forget to lock the door.?
?’Cause of you, Shannon can reach it too now.?
Shannon said as she climbed on top of a crate.
Guiche had prepared it because she could not reach the inner key. After he left, Shannon firmly locked the door.

Night.
She heard a rattling sound coming from the castle entrance.
?Shannon: Papa’s back!?
Shannon who had been playing with the Rewraith Gear, making various shaped objects, hurriedly went to meet him.
However, there was no one at the entrance.
?Shannon: Papa…??
Just then, a shadow creeped up behind Shannon.
§ § §
In front of the old castle on the lake.
It was Night. Ein had returned.
When he put the key in the keyhole of the door, his gaze sharpened slightly.
(It wasn’t locked?)
He opened the door and went inside.
?Guiche. You still there??
He called out to him.
If Guiche had yet to return, it would makes sense that the door had been unlocked.
But there was no reply.
Ein spotted something at the edge of his vision and lowered his gaze.
A gear necklace and a ribbon had fallen there.
(Shannon’s ribbon and Rewraith gear…)
He picked it up and the next moment he was stunned.
A crack appeared in the floor. With a surrounding thud, a giant jet-black hand smashed through the floor, opening a huge hole.
Ein quickly avoided it, but fell straight down the hole.
(…Quite deep. There was no such cavity under the castle.)
Using the spell Lev to slow his descend, Ein landed on the ground.
The area around it was a large cavern that looked like it had been forcibly excavated underground.
????: Freeze. Ein Schubert.?
Magical lights lit up one after another, surrounding Ein.
What gradually appeared in the darkness was a magic doll so huge that you would have to look up at it for a full view, and it looked even darker than the darkness itself.
It was made of dark orichalcum and was reminiscent of a magician in vestments.
(…This thing, isn’t that the ancient magical weapon Gezwarz…! ? A masterpiece by Azenia Babylon. The mere activation of it violates the Magical Accords.)
????: If you fear for your daughter’s life, fetch me the core magic formation for the gear system.?
A voice echoes from Gezwarz, and a magic formation was drawn on its chest.
That part was transparent and he could see an unconscious Shannon inside.
(Are they aiming for the rights to the gear system? The fact that Shannon is in the cockpit means it’s being remote controled. There ought to be a magic line that connects to the caster.)
That prediction of his was correct.
The caster of Gezwarz was David. He used a remote control technique from the Anderdezun Research Tower to keep Ein from knowing his true identity.
?David: I don’t have all day.?
Ein drew a magic formation and took out a piece of parchment.
?Ein: This is what you’re looking for. I’ll let you have it. But.?
In order to exercise Rezun Neze, Ein took out his magic clock staff behind his back so that Gezwarz could see it.
?Ein: Release Shannon first???
The giant dark orichalcum fist struck Ein as though to crush him.
A crater was clearly carved into the hard soil of the underground.
?All I needed to know was where the core magic formation is, so you’re no use to me anymore!?
David exclaimed triumphantly.
It was then.
?…I see. You’re incompetent alright.?
He heard a voice from under the giant fist.
The voice of Ein who should have been crushed.
?…Wha??
He had blocked it.
Ein managed to hold the blow from a magic weapon of extraordinary mass at bay with his bare hands.
On the contrary, little by little, Gezwarz’s colossal body was being pushed back.
?Ein: Shannon is safe as long as she’s in the cockpit of Gezwarz.?
Gezwarz’s cockpit had the strongest barrier in place to protect the user who operated it.
Even if Gezwarz were to be destroyed, the caster would remain protected.
Ein finally pushed back its fist completely.
?……! ??
Four gear magic formations were rotating around Ein.
Ein’s body had been magically linked. In other words, it was a spell that used the magical power of the gears to turn the power of the gears and amplify his physical strength??
??Herculean Strength Four Wheeled Gear Magical Link{Gauberg Batze}??
The four gear magic formations were rotating vigorously, and Ein lifted Gezwarz’s gigantic body into the air.
Just like that, Ein threw it to his heart content
With a thud, Gezwarz’s huge body slammed into the rock wall and collapsed on the spot.
