Anderdezun Research Tower. The First Magic Workshop.
A Magician is lazily illustrating a magic formation on his desk.
A man with the wrong kind of eyes.

?David.?

Ein, who returned from the director’s office, called out to the man.

?Ein: Didn’t I tell I you to cut off the magic line from the outside as soon as you finish using it? If it were to be traced, it could be exploited.?

Ein points at a magic crystal that had been set aside.

A magic line extended outward from it.

David silently looks back at Ein.

And with a malcontent look on his face, he said

?But that’s just theoretical, right? No Magician out there could pull that off.?

Ein looked at David in silence, paying him no heed.

?David:..alright, I’ll do it.?

David reluctantly moves to the magic crystal.

?Chief.?

Luke called out to him from behind.

Shannon was with him.

?Luke: Everything alright??

?Ein: I got fired?

?Luke: You got what!??

From his heart of hearts, Luke raised his voice in surprise.

?Ein: I’ll leave {Ragea} in your hands.?

?Luke: No, I’d rather you don’t…?

?Eternal world Tree{Ragea}? is new magic that Ein has been developing. Its control is extremely difficult and requires advanced magical skills.

In the first magic workshop, no one but him can handle it.

Luke could not hide his bewilderment at the sudden turn of events.

David watched the two of them with a sidelong glance.

(Damn, that well-connected degreeless? He got fired?)

?Amashing crystaaaaal!?

Shannon pops up from behind David.

?…!? Hey, watch it will…?

Just before David could finish, something occurs to him.

(…..Hold up. This brat came with the connection-relying degreeless, didn’t she…..? If he got fired, then??)

David gloats with a grin.
?David: You can take a closer look if you want to.?

?Shannon: Hooray!?

Shannon brings both of her hands closer to the magic crystal.

David secretively illustrated a magic formation.

Then all at once, magical power overflowed from the magic crystal.

?Shannon: Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!?

Shannon’s scream prompts Ein to immediately rush to the scene.

?M-magical power runaway! Looks like the kid took her prank a little too far???

David said with deliberate haste.

?Ein: Move it.?

Ein pushed him away, and illustrated a magic formation.

(I made it run wild to the limit. It can’t be stopped when it gets there. That’s what you get for jerking me around all this time while degreeless as you are!)

After David’s vile emotion inflated, Ein shot through the magic crystal using {Volks}. (1)

?David: Say what?!?

David exclaimed involuntarily.

(He forcibly stopped it by blowing up only the magic core of the magic crystal!?)

?Not causing a magical runaway is third-rate; stopping one is second-rate.?

Ein says sternly and admonishingly.

?Ein: You an amateur or something, David??

Looking down, David grits his teeth.

His expression was stained with humiliation.

(You degreeless!)

?Shannon: Papa.?

Shannon rushes over to him happily.

?Shannon: Twinkle twinkle! It was amazing.?

She waves both of her hands to represent glitter.

It seems like the fact that she was in danger due to the magical runaway did not even occur to her.

?Ein: Let’s go home.?

Ein smiled.

§§§

Old castle on the lake. The Throne room.

?Ein: I’m gonna research now. Behave yourself.?

?Shannon: Aye-aye!?

Shannon replied in high spirits.

Ein leaves the throne room and walks down the aisle.

(What am I going to do now that I’m jobless? Should I rather focus on my gear system research?)

He stopped in front of the door of the magic workshop door and put his hand there.

He illustrates a cryptographic magic formation, and the heavy door opens quietly.

While waiting for it, Ein continued to think with a mystified expression.

(… Probably not. My savings will run out in three months??)

?Shannon: Room of smarts!?

Shannon popped up from behind him and peered into the workshop.

?…You headache, I told you to behave yourself, didn’t I? Here is the???

?Shannon will look quietly!?

Saying that, Shannon walks into the workshop.

?Ein: Get out! ! !?

Shannon’s shoulders trembles at the sound of Ein’s angry tone.

?Ein: Listen, Shannon. This particular workshop is a sanctuary for a Magicians. If you enter without my permission, you can’t complain about being killed.?

Tears welled up in her blue eyes.

?Ein: Crying won’t help. I’ll let you in once you become a Magician.?

He must not allow himself to be lenient, lest she risked losing her life in the future.

Thinking that, Ein sternly admonished her, but Shannon burst into tears:?Uhaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!?

With an awkward expression, Ein gazes at his child. His sense of guilt increases the more he watches her cry.

?……………….Headache, what’s your favorite food??

He inquired, as tough intending to put her in a good mood.

§§§
The Kitchen.

Three layers of pancakes with plenty of butter and maple syrup was on the table.

?Shannon: Food’s so goood. Suuupeeerrr pancakes! !?

Shannon looks at them with a droolling face; clutching two forks in both of her hands.

Having been scolded by Ein seemed like yesterdays news to her. She cuts the pancake with her forks and stuffs her checks in relish.

?Shannon: Delish!?

Seeing that, Ein narrowed his eyes.

At that moment, a magical sound rings in his ears. The work of the spell that allows for communication in remote locations:  ?Magic Sound Call{Tesla}?

?Ein: What do you want, Gui…?

?You’ve done it again, you dunderhead! ! ?

Faster than his words, a reproachful voice pierces Ein’s ears.

?Ein: The hell’s with that tone, Guiche??

The other party was his partner-in-crime back from his Magic Academy days.

He often uses his affiliation with the Holy Army as a go-between for favors.

?Guiche: Just as the public office in charge of the adoption application proceedings wrapped up the verification for your registration; surprise, surprise: Ein Schubert was no where to be found in the Ministry of Magic?

?Ein:..I thought the examination’s been completed.?
?Guiche: It’s the usual red tape. Your application for adoption will be canceled.?

Essentially, when one is given permission for adoption, the examination is all but over.

However, they were sometimes lax, skipping the examination and issuing the permit first, thinking there would be no problem as long as the documents are in order.

At a later date, they conducted a review for consistency sake, but ran into trouble.

Ein looked at Shannon who was eating her pancakes with content.

?Ein: Got some solution for me??

Ein stands up, and moves to another place so as to not allow Shannon to hear him.

He opened the door and stepped out of the kitchen.

?Guiche: I put in a good word for you because you were a Magician in the Ministry of Magic. The income and not to mention the prestige of that is higher than most adaptive fathers could say about themselves. By quitting, you threw the whole thing apart.?

?Ein: Most adoptive fathers don’t work for the Ministry of Magic, so I don’t see your point.?

?Guiche: Ein. What’s more important to you, your research or your child? When you left the Ministry of Magic, did you think about your child for a second? ?

Ein was at a loss for a reply at those words.

?Guiche: If the latter is the case, fork over 8 million Zera for child support. Then your application will be approved.?

?Ein: Ha? You think I’ve got some money tree in my backyard??

?Guiche: Then give up. An Orphanage would still better for the child. That’s all I have to say.?

?Ein: Guiche! Hey!?

{Tesla} was cut off, and Ein clicked his tongue.

?Papa, are you in big trouble??

Shannon opened the door slightly and peered in from there.

?Shannon: Shannon’s fault? Bad things happen when’s Shannon around.?(2)

Her tears crossed Ein’s mind.

??Shannon was a bad girl, so she left.

The youthful crying face of hers that revealed this caused his chest to tighten.

?Ein: No such thing. I’m going to research now, so behave yourself.?

Ein moves to the magic workshop.
He stood in front of his desk and spread out his study parchment.

(8 million Zera, so what? All I’ve got to do is complete the gear system)

With a quill pen in hand, Ein draws the lines of a magic formation??

Translator Notes:

1. Hello guys! I’m sure you’ve noticed based on the previous chapters that I sometimes omit the words before the fictional ones in the bracket. For example:?Explosive Magic Flame Cannon{Volks}? to just {Volks}, but I’ll clarify just in case to clear up the confusion some might have.
I do this mostly to make it easier/smother to read. Especially during dialogues; less so during narrations(to help you orient still). The only times I write it out fully during dialogues is when new spells are being introduced.
2. This is so sad. She immediately assumes it’s her fault.(
