A Sweet Girl Won't Be Fooled By The Villainess - [Vol. 2] Chapter 11
[Vol. 2] Chapter 11: Awesome!
“However, because the interns lack work experience, only seven out of the fifteen people need to draw lots, the rest will work in the back hall.”
Austin’s suggestion left Mirabeau and Nornada momentarily stunned. They exchanged a glance and then tacitly agreed without voicing any objections.
It was a reluctant acceptance.
On the other hand, Jessica’s face showed a hint of anger. She felt like they were treating the interns as if they weren’t human. About to express her discontent, she was promptly silenced by Lucy, who had noticed her agitation.
“Mm-mm! Mm-mm-mm!”
With her mouth covered, Jessica couldn’t speak and could only express her anger through frustrated sounds.
Lucy, seemingly understanding, quietly explained to Jessica, “Jessica, this is already a good outcome. Don’t stir up trouble.”
Upon hearing Lucy’s words, Jessica struggled even more vehemently, using her entire body to convey her opposition to Lucy’s statement.
In the next moment, when Ifia called over, although she helped restrain Jessica, she also looked at Lucy with a puzzled expression, not understanding why Lucy said that.
Working in the front hall carried the risk of being attacked by the believers and getting injured!
As Lucy sighed helplessly while being stared at by these two cuties, Arlan stepped in to offer an explanation, “Just from seeing that Archbishop Mirabeau didn’t immediately reprimand Nornada publicly, you can tell her family is quite extraordinary.”
“If he hadn’t been challenged in public, the Archbishop would have compromised much earlier.”
“After all, we’re just interns, and the Archbishop won’t offend people because of us. So being able to save half of the people is already quite good, it’s not a complete disaster.”
Upon hearing Arlan’s precise explanation, Lucy gave her a thumbs up, confirming that she was right.
Subsequently, Jessica stopped struggling, and Ifia released her grip upon seeing this.
Looking at the gloomy faces of her friends, Ifia thought for a moment and then spoke to the system.
[System, can you manipulate the drawing, the kind of cheating?]
[Yes]
Ifia didn’t have much hope for the system, but unexpectedly, the system could be of assistance. Ifia’s feelings about the system were complex at this moment, feeling that the system’s functionality was somewhat useless.
Tastes bland when you eat it, but it’s a waste to throw it away.
Oh well, she had no expectations for the system anyway, so there was no disappointment.
Helping with small things like this was already good!
[How do you want to cheat, Host?]
[Just make sure we don’t end up working in the front hall. Choose a safer place.]
[No problem]
With the system’s affirmative response, Ifia looked at Jessica’s angry face and playfully poked her, then comforted her, “Don’t be angry, it’s just drawing lots. Maybe we’ll be lucky!”
“Ifia, you have a good mindset.”
While Ifia comforted Jessica, Irene, who had been silent all along, suddenly spoke. Ifia couldn’t help but roll her eyes in silence, thinking that Irene shouldn’t seek attention at this moment! If you can’t speak, just stay quiet. However, Irene didn’t heed Ifia’s desire for her to stay silent. Instead, with a fearful expression, she continued,
“But I’m really scared. It’s said that working in the front hall might lead to attacks, and many clergy members have been injured because of it. According to Austin’s suggestion of drawing lots, who among us should go draw?”
When Irene mentioned drawing lots to determine who would go, the interns gathered together fell into instant silence. It was apparent that they all knew working in the front hall was indeed dangerous; they came for an internship, not to risk their lives.
Before the drawing lots, they needed to select candidates. In the midst of the silence, Antoine took the initiative and stepped forward, smiling as he volunteered, “I’ll go draw lots. But my dear Arlan doesn’t have to go, right?”
“Antoine…”
“Arlan, it’s okay. It’s just working in the front hall, not going to a battlefield. If there were still wars, my dream would be to become a war correspondent.”
No one would refuse Antoine’s voluntary offer. Arlan was exempt from drawing lots because of her boyfriend, leaving six more slots for the drawing.
With Antoine being the first to volunteer, others followed suit one after another. These volunteers were ordinary students, and even if they were assigned to work in the front hall, it would leave a positive impression on the church, possibly earning them high praise.
Graduating from the academy and working at the church afterward would undoubtedly be a highly profitable exchange.
At this point, Ifia discreetly tugged on Jessica and Lucy’s sleeves and quietly inquired, “What kind of work is done in the back hall of the church?”
Despite having tasked the system with cheating in the drawing lots, Ifia had no intention of volunteering. As a slacker and indifferent person, she naturally chose the easiest job available.
“I heard that the work in the back hall involves moving some items,” Lucy replied, gently shaking her head, as she was also unsure and only knew rumors.
However, Jessica, at this moment, put on a triumphant expression and volunteered information, “I know! The work in the church’s back hall is not easy. It involves moving small sculptures, arranging the space, cleaning, assisting in the kitchen, handling ingredients, and so on.”
“The church is short-staffed right now. Even though priests and nuns are eager to work in the back hall, the bishop won’t easily allow it. I don’t think there are many people working there.”
“In fact, if there wasn’t the possibility of an attack in the front hall, the work there would be quite easy. Basically, you’d just need to stand or sit all day.”
Upon hearing Jessica’s detailed explanation, Ifia immediately raised her hand. She had already done enough cleaning in the dormitory!
“I volunteer!” Ifia’s sudden raise of hand surprised Jessie and Lucy. By the time they attempted to pull Ifia’s hand down, it was already too late.
Irene’s question drew everyone’s attention, “Ifia, are you signing up too?” Ifia smiled at everyone, offering no elaborate explanation, just saying, “I’ve always been lucky, I’m sure I won’t draw the front hall work.”
“Irene, do you want to sign up too?” Ifia couldn’t miss the chance to involve Irene. Seeing Irene hesitate, Ifia added, “I, as the top student in our grade, signed up. You, as the second, should set an example!”
Ifia chuckled inwardly, thinking, who said moral blackmail wasn’t fun? She didn’t initially want to deal with Irene, but since she was being difficult, they might as well sign up together. Smirking at Irene’s displeased expression, Ifia felt quite satisfied.
After Ifia signed Irene up, there were only two spots left among the seven.
Lucy and Jessica exchanged glances. Since no one else volunteered, they took the initiative to sign up for the drawing lots.
This time, Ifia wanted to stop them. “Lucy, Jessica, don’t be impulsive. Working in the back hall is safer.” Ignoring Ifia’s helpless look, Jessica scoffed, “Hmph, Ifia, you get to be lazy, but you won’t let us?”
“Ifia, even if we work in the front hall, it doesn’t mean we’ll definitely encounter danger.”
Ifia couldn’t fake being untouched by the companionship of her two friends. She could only ask the system to help them find an easy job later.
“Archbishop, we have selected candidates, and we are ready to draw lots at any time.” With Antoine acting as the temporary leader, he negotiated with the Red Robed Archbishop Mirabeau. After Mirabeau nodded, someone immediately took out slips of paper. Mirabeau personally wrote on them, and then placed them in a wooden box.
Clergy and interns lined up randomly, eagerly reaching into the box to retrieve their slips.
“I got assigned to the statistical work in the central hall!”
“How coincidental, I’m also going to the central hall.”
“Me too…”
After the drawing was complete, the seven interns revealed the contents of their slips. In the tense atmosphere, surprisingly, several were assigned to work in the central hall. The high probability of this outcome astonished everyone, and they breathed a sigh of relief for not having to work in the front hall. Smiles returned to their faces.
“How is this possible? Why are we still assigned to work in the front hall!”
While the interns were rejoicing, on the other side, Nornada clutched her slip in disbelief. Her face turned pale, and she wanted to say something more, but facing the stern gaze of Archbishop Mirabeau, she ultimately chose to remain silent. Offending Mirabeau enough for the day, pushing further might lead to severe consequences, even if Mirabeau was wary of her family.
These interns got quite lucky today!
Another person who couldn’t believe their luck was Irene. In the atmosphere of excitement and joy, she widened her eyes as she looked at the contents of the slip, unwilling to believe that her luck could be so bad.
While others got easy jobs in the central hall, she ended up drawing the task of receiving believers in the front hall, close contact with those crazy individuals who concealed their true selves.
Why was her luck so bad? Wait! Ifia and the others haven’t announced the contents of their slips yet. Perhaps, just like her, they had bad luck and drew the task in the front hall. As Irene thought about this, Arlan spoke up, asking on her behalf, “Jessica, what did you draw?”
“Hehehe, an interesting job~”
Jessica’s grinning appearance didn’t seem forced at all, but it still managed to be intriguing. Arlan immediately raised her hand to give her a light tap, making Jessica behave.
Then, with a somewhat aggrieved expression, she covered her forehead and revealed the contents of her slip, “We got assigned to help in the confession room in the side hall. Ifia, Lucy, and I got the same job. We are indeed the strongest trio of Pulis Academy!”
Ifia initially knew little about the confession room, but after Jessica’s brief explanation, she immediately became excited. It seemed like the perfect place to gather some reasonable gossip! The system really understood her.
“The confession room is not bad, you won’t have direct contact with the believers. It’s very safe.”
Arlan was also surprised by the good luck of Jessica and her friends.
Even if Antoine and the others drew jobs in the central hall, it wouldn’t be as relaxed and easy as the work in the confession room. However, among the seven people who drew lots, one person had not revealed their assignment…
Thinking about this, Arlan looked towards Irene. Irene’s body was tense, and her expression was unpleasant. From these signs, it was clear that the contents of her slip were not favorable.
Maybe it’s better not to ask.
Unlike Arlan, who had reservations, Jessica asked with a grin, “Irene, why do you look so awful? What job did you draw?”
As soon as she said this, everyone’s attention immediately turned to Irene. Faced with the scrutiny of so many people, Irene forced a smile on her face. Her hands behind her back clenched into fists, and her nails dug into her palms.
“It’s the reception job in the front hall.”
Ohh!
When Ifia heard about Irene’s assigned job, she burst into laughter inside. Then, she curiously asked the system.
[System, did you make Irene draw the job in the front hall?]
[Yes, due to the host’s aversion to the female lead, the front hall is far from the side hall. The host won’t have any work-related contact with her there.]
The system silently wiped its metaphorical sweat. Keeping them apart was essential. The system couldn’t afford to let the female lead be killed by demons in the church! That would be a whole new set of problems.
The system looked at the demon guard hovering next to Ifia. Originally curious about why this Tarokmat was nicknamed the “Sin of Pride,” after investigating and observing, the system discovered that this demon was extremely arrogant. Arrogant to the point that it only distinguished whether someone could be killed by malice or not…
The stalkers from Pulis Academy and the aristocratic students who approached on the road had all shown malice towards the host, seeking to gain a demon’s soul-devouring feast. As for the usual petty conflicts, they were ignored by the arrogant demon.
However, the female lead, Irene, did not dare to continue harboring resentment towards the host due to her fear, saving her from becoming a meal for demons. Still, if she and the host continued to stay together, it was only a matter of time before trouble arose!
Might as well throw Irene into the front hall and directly separate the two! Anyway, she wouldn’t die, at most, she would suffer some injuries.
‘Hehehe, finally don’t have to listen to Irene’s whining anymore. Awesome!’
Ifia, unaware of having a demon guard, was overjoyed at finally being separated from Irene. The others looked at Irene sympathetically, not knowing what to say to the poor girl. All they could do was dryly reassure her that everything would be fine.
This only made Irene grip her hands even tighter, but her expression gradually returned to normal. Instead of the forced smiles from before, she now wore a determined look.
Now was not the worst moment yet.
Although she drew the dangerous job in the front hall, she could work with people like Nornada and others. This provided an opportunity to connect with these clergy members and expand her network outside the school. Just that, it seemed like Ifia and the others were the ones benefitting… However, being lucky now didn’t guarantee luck in the future.
“Alright, the work has been arranged. Everyone, go back and rest!”
After the drawing lots concluded, Archbishop Leila Mirabeau directly announced the dismissal. Once she turned and left, the priests and nuns left with gloomy faces. Only after that did the interns, now in a more relaxed mood, walk out of the small chapel.
Being able to put those arrogant clergy members in their place felt incredibly satisfying! It was a lesson for them.
However, having encountered so much trouble just after arriving at the church, they urgently needed to return to the dormitory for some rest. Just as they exited the small chapel, Jessica suddenly excitedly grabbed Ifia’s arm. Before Ifia could ask, she immediately pointed forward and exclaimed, “Quick, look, it’s Saint Tiffany!”
