[Vol. 3] Chapter 71: Wealth Comes Knocking
“I’m looking forward to it, but for now, let’s go and rest at my place!”
Amelia couldn’t resist rubbing Ifia’s head as she transformed into an adorable puppy-like form. She didn’t discourage Ifia’s enthusiasm. In fact, Amelia enjoyed these spontaneous little surprises, finding joy even in the antics of a demon.
Upon seeing that Amelia didn’t reject the suggestion, Ifia’s smile became even more radiant. Although she knew Amelia wouldn’t mind her being less affluent, she couldn’t help feeling a bit embarrassed. Compared to Amelia, who was an elegant and noble aristocrat, Ifia’s nouveau riche style of speaking seemed a bit boastful.
Others might patiently wait for the gold to come in and then casually indulge in buying things to create more romance and surprises. Unlike her, who was straightforward and inadvertently revealed all her thoughts.
Nevertheless, Ifia had been struggling with her lack of funds for a long time. Now that she had money, she wanted to give the best to Amelia. Moreover, she did become rich overnight, so a bit of showing off seemed natural. With wealth at her side, she could feel at ease.
Fortunately, after receiving Amelia’s response, Ifia’s overthinking didn’t persist. Especially when she saw Amelia’s gentle expression and the subtle smile on her lips, Ifia easily let go of her concerns. She transformed from cloudy to clear, and her mood improved accordingly.
Once her emotions relaxed, the exhaustion that had been building up became evident, causing Ifia to involuntarily stifle a small yawn. The excitement from the substantial influx of gold began to wane.
“Yeah, I’m indeed quite tired,” Ifia admitted. Like a sticky piece of toffee, she clung to Amelia, nuzzling and rubbing against her like a little cat. She lifted Amelia’s arm, refusing to let go, almost as if she wanted to be carried back.
After experiencing the underground cave behind the artificial mountain, Ifia gained a clearer understanding of Amelia’s strength. She felt confident that even a swift run while being held in Amelia’s arms wouldn’t be an issue.
Amelia is super amazing!
However, Ifia quickly thought about the numerous people around, and the feeling of being surrounded by onlookers wasn’t pleasant. She didn’t want to endure being scrutinized and whispered about, Ifia valued her pride!
Deciding to walk back on her own, just as she was regaining her composure and preparing to return for some rest, Princess Sissi’s voice suddenly echoed from behind.
“Miss Ifia, please wait, I have something to say!”
Surprisingly, this time she called Ifia’s name, not Amelia’s. Ifia turned her head in puzzlement, failing to notice Amelia standing beside her. Amelia’s smiling face quickly turned expressionless, and her gentle purple eyes carried a sharpness as she looked at Princess Sissi.
Although to others, it might appear as if she had regained her indifferent expression, the continuous pressure exerted on Princess Sissi made her face turn bitter. She felt her internal organs trembling under the oppression.
Initially, Princess Sissi had not completed her recovery in the blood pool, and now she was subject to forceful pressure once again. The fact that she didn’t publicly show signs of distress was commendable.
Princess Sissi wasn’t foolish, she quickly understood the reason almost instantly – the intense possessiveness of a demon was at play. However, with a clear conscience, she only sought Ifia’s assistance to appeal to Amelia Barlen, and she had no other intentions. Someone like Ifia, a petite figure, didn’t align with the preferences of the people of Taric Kingdom.
Enduring the oppressive force, Princess Sissi forced a smile and quickly seized the moment to speak, “It’s like this. The king has tasked me with leading soldiers to the Dark Forest to punish the Dark Elves. As you are aware, my abilities alone cannot accomplish this mission.”
Before Princess Sissi stopped Ifia, she had already cast a barrier using magical powers that she wasn’t particularly familiar with, preventing the transmission of sound. Consequently, even though they were standing very close together, the content of their conversation remained unheard.
Unless the other party’s abilities surpassed Princess Sissi’s, which was unlikely within the Taric royal family, there was no need to worry about eavesdropping.
Not feeling the removal of the pressure from Amelia Barlen, Princess Sissi had to endure the pain and continued, “I would like to entrust both you and Miss Amelia Barlen to join the fight against the Dark Elves… Of course, the reward will be extremely generous. I hope you can agree.”
Listening to Princess Sissi’s explanation, Ifia couldn’t help but roll her eyes silently. She wasn’t a three-year-old easily deceived by promises of generous rewards. Even if the compensation was substantial, facing the ferocity of the Dark Elves was not a gamble she was willing to take lightly!
Even though Amelia looked extremely cool and composed while dealing with the Dark Elves, she was just a human, not a deity!
It’s like ants trying to bite an elephant!
Ifia wouldn’t risk Amelia’s life for money.
“I don’t…”
“If we accept your commission, how generous will the reward be?”
Amelia, seeing Princess Sissi’s intention wasn’t to pressure Ifia, didn’t continue to assert dominance. Princess Sissi finally regained normal breathing, and just as she was about to recover, she heard a question from Amelia Barlen. Discovering it was an inquiry from Amelia Barlen, Princess Sissi was overjoyed. Ignoring Ifia, who seemed originally inclined to refuse, she quickly replied, “Three times more than what His Majesty the King would offer!”
As the owner of multiple gold mines, Princess Sissi was extravagantly wealthy, leaving an indignant Ifia stunned in place. She should have continued being angry, but with the generous offer, Ifia’s shameful heart fluttered for a moment. Without waiting for Amelia’s response, Ifia took the initiative to reach out and tug on her sleeve. As Amelia slightly bent down, Ifia leaned in close to her ear.
In front of Princess Sissi, Ifia whispered, “Amelia, can you deal with those Dark Elves? Don’t be stubborn. It’s just a bit of gold. If it’s too dangerous, don’t do it!”
Three times, it was like receiving a gigantic gold mine. However, no amount of gold was as precious as Amelia. Even if she was enchanted by wealth, she wouldn’t let Amelia take unnecessary risks.
Speaking softly into Amelia’s ear, Ifia’s warm breath created a slight tickle, as if a small cat was gently scratching at the heart. Amelia’s purple eyes narrowed slightly as she bit her ear and responded, “Ifia, I’m very strong. Dark Elves aren’t to be feared. Besides, I want to earn a lot of money for my lovely Ifia.”
Upon hearing this, Ifia stared at Amelia in a daze. Soon, her cheeks flushed. Oh no, Amelia’s words were too much of a tease. It felt like she was being flirted with!
