[Vol. 3] Chapter 76: Illusory Realm (4) – Detestable Classmate

Ifia’s courage grew to the point where even she herself was afraid. Perhaps it was due to the well-set scene atmosphere, or maybe it was because she knew her own thoughts were impure. When her little hand actually touched, Ifia found herself frozen in place.

The clear sensation brought satisfaction. However, Ifia’s face instantly turned red, and even her delicate ears blushed intensely. Her shy and timid obsidian-like eyes, along with her outstretched arm, became stiff. The subconscious action of biting her lower lip added a touch of coyness.

Despite not often interacting with Amelia, why was Ifia acting so recklessly now?

This could be considered an indecent gesture, the new maid, Amelia, would surely be furious!

Hmph! Even if she gets angry, so what?

Ifia is the young lady. She could simply… have her father double Amelia’s salary. If that doesn’t work, Amelia can always be replaced.

Ifia silently withdrew her ambush, then cautiously raised her eyes to see Amelia’s reaction, only to unexpectedly meet a pair of deep purple eyes staring back at her.

Subsequently, Amelia suddenly leaned in, accompanied by a sweet fragrance, and warm breath gently brushed against Ifia. Up close, Amelia’s stunning face became even more captivating. A mere maid, yet how could she be so attractive!

It seemed as if little arrows were constantly being shot by unseen figures, whistling straight towards Ifia’s heart.

Ifia, with her nervous long eyelashes quivering, anxiously clasped her hands together, twisting and turning them. Nevertheless, she maintained an effort to appear calm on her face, awaiting Amelia’s words. This seemingly defiant posture, however, only elicited a light laughter from Amelia, whose purple eyes sparkled like gems immersed in a stream.

In an instant, it was as if spring had come to withered trees, and a myriad of flowers blossomed. It left Ifia dizzy and captivated.

“Miss Ifia, we have arrived at the academy,” Amelia calmly stated.

However, in the next moment, Amelia decisively stood up. She promptly opened the carriage door, gracefully hopped down, and stood in front of the door, raising one hand to signal Ifia to disembark. She appeared as if she hadn’t given the previous incident a second thought, maintaining a composure even more collected than Ifia, the one who had reached out for a touch.

Such behavior actually infuriated Ifia. She snorted and ignored Amelia’s hand. Ifia initially intended to gracefully hop down from the carriage, but due to the intricate layers of her dress, she could only slowly descend using the low stool provided by the coachman.

Amelia, unperturbed, followed behind in a disciplined manner. Once the two entered the academy, the irritable Ifia, after taking a few steps, quickly sensed numerous glances directed at her. Although these gazes didn’t linger on her for long, they swiftly shifted to the rear.

This only fueled her frustration further. The sensation of having one’s possessions coveted was unpleasant, and as Ifia thought about it, her anger grew. Finally, she stopped advancing and took a few steps back, forcefully grabbing Amelia’s hand.

As Amelia looked over, Ifia assumed a domineering expression and said, “The noble academy has many arrogant bullies. You’d better get closer to me. Otherwise, they will bully you.”

“Understood, miss.”

With Amelia’s response, Ifia’s mood improved somewhat. The sly smirk in her eyes caught Amelia’s attention, causing her to unconsciously raise an eyebrow.

She couldn’t help but think that the stubborn little cat was indeed cute. It was no wonder that, despite making such an offensive move, Ifia didn’t provoke any murderous intent in her.

On the contrary, there was a desire to bring this little one over for some amusement. Surprisingly, the seemingly incompetent Count Henry had such an adorable daughter.

“Oh, my goodness, dear Ifia, who is this beautiful lady?”

Upon entering the classroom, a redhead girl exclaimed and immediately disregarded aristocratic etiquette. She rushed over to Ifia, her reddish-brown eyes fixed firmly on Amelia.

Ifia, displeased, pursed her lips and instinctively used her body to shield Amelia. “Jessica, she’s just my personal maid.”

“Oh, so she’s your maid Miss Ifia, you’re really lucky. My maid, Austin, is simply infuriating.” Jessica eyed Amelia with unabashed envy, causing Ifia to feel both annoyed and triumphant.

Finally suppressing the urge to smile, Ifia gently pushed Jessica’s arm with her hand, signaling her to return to her seat as class was about to begin. At the same time, turning to instruct Amelia, “Amelia, you can wait in the adjacent lounge. We’ll go home together after school.”

“Alright.”

Once Amelia left, Ifia and Jessica returned to their seats. Soon after, Jessica teased with a playful expression, “Ifia, a lot of people were indeed looking at your maid just now. It’s quite attention-grabbing~”

Ifia gave Jessica an unenthusiastic glance, unwilling to delve into further discussions about Amelia with others. Her maid was something she preferred to keep to herself, without letting others get too much insight.

So, Ifia decisively shifted the topic, “When I entered the classroom just now, I saw you all engaged in an intense discussion. What was it about?”

Upon hearing this topic, Jessica immediately perked up. “Well, Viscount Kafev was found brutally murdered at home, in a horrifying manner. When the church officials came to investigate, they discovered traces left behind by a demon.”

“A demon?”

“Yes, recently, there are quite a few noble families secretly worshiping demons, hoping to fulfill their desires. However, many people end up with unfavorable outcomes!”

At the mention of demons, Jessica couldn’t help but shudder, showing great fear. Seeing this, Ifia comfortingly patted her shoulder, seemingly unaffected by the conversation. Demons were far removed from her reality, merely gossip material that had no bearing on her daily life.

However, Jessica hesitated for a moment later on but ultimately decided, “Ifia, you should be careful lately. I’ve heard some rumors, Count Henry seems to be involved in some dangerous activities.”

Upon hearing her father’s name, Ifia paused for a moment, then casually waved her hand. “I can’t control that. Better not to worry about it. I’ll leave once I come of age.”

Seeing Ifia’s nonchalant attitude, Jessica sighed and didn’t pursue the somber topic. Instead, they shifted to discussing fashion and food.

The conversation continued until the teacher arrived, signaling the end of their chat, and the commencement of a serious class. However, while Jessica was focused, Ifia found herself daydreaming.

Ifia couldn’t help but wonder if Amelia would be bored in the lounge. She considered the idea of retrieving the novels hidden in the desk cavity and letting Amelia take them. Even though she felt that Amelia wasn’t the type to read novels, it could serve as a pastime.

With these thoughts in mind, after enduring the school day, Ifia eagerly rose, intending to leave. However, she was intercepted by a classmate she wasn’t particularly familiar with.

“Excuse me, Ifia, I have something to discuss.”

“Are you… Irene?”

Ifia looked at the girl in front of her, sharing the same black hair and black eyes. Among the various hair colors of the students in the academy, this combination wasn’t common. Therefore, Ifia had some vague recollection of Irene.

However, for some reason, Ifia subconsciously harbored a strong aversion to Irene, wishing to keep her at a distance. Yet, bound by the etiquette expected of nobility, Ifia remained in place, refraining from simply walking away. She waited for Irene to continue speaking.

“Please deliver this gemstone brooch to Count Henry.”

“?”

Ifia frowned as she looked at Irene’s smiling face. She then glanced at the brooch in Irene’s palm. The ruby set in it didn’t shine like ordinary gemstones. Instead, it had a dark, dull appearance, resembling coagulated blood turned black-red. Just the sight of it was displeasing.

Not wanting to accept it, Ifia chose to refuse, “Irene, my father is busy with official matters. I don’t want to disturb his work. Please deliver it yourself!”

“But, this brooch…”

Facing Ifia’s rejection, Irene wasn’t willing to give up easily. However, before she could finish her sentence, a voice sounded at the classroom door, “Miss Ifia, it’s time to leave.”

Amelia, dressed in a maid’s uniform, stood at the classroom door with an indifferent expression. When her gaze fell upon Irene, the words in Irene’s mouth were stifled. She felt as if she were being stared at by a ferocious beast, sending shivers down her spine. Even when negotiating with demons before, it hadn’t been this frightening.

Ifia, standing beside, was oblivious to these dynamics. When she saw Amelia, her face lit up with joy, and her black eyes instantly sparkled.

“Irene, goodbye.”

Ifia couldn’t be bothered to continue the nonsense with Irene. She quickened her pace, walking directly to Amelia’s side. However, being the queen of stubbornness, Ifia still maintained a certain demeanor, “Amelia, as a maid, you should always be aware of my situation. Come earlier next time!”

“Alright.”

With prolonged interaction, Amelia had come to understand the personality of the young lady. Therefore, she naturally complied with Ifia’s request, though her gaze swiftly passed over the ruby brooch in Irene’s hand, her purple eyes briefly revealing a hint of deep meaning.

This brooch harbored secrets.

A demon was concealed within it, and anyone who had contact with the brooch would be affected…

Truly rare for the young lady to be so clever today.

However, attempting to touch her dessert was out of the question.

While Amelia silently pondered, Ifia discreetly reached out and softly took Amelia’s hand, still maintaining her stern tone, “I was just worried you might get lost, not like I wanted to hold your hand!”

“Mm.”

Amelia, in a good mood, led the stubborn little cat away without lingering. However, after the two of them left, a mysterious scene unfolded in the classroom.

Irene, glaring resentfully at Ifia’s retreating figure, witnessed an astonishing occurrence. The gemstone brooch in her hand, still not put away, suddenly emitted a bright light. The intense red glow fell upon her skin, producing a sizzling, corroding sound.

Irene felt the urge to scream in agony, but at that moment, she realized she couldn’t make any sound. Instead, she painfully transformed into a pool of blood, disappearing without a trace.

Subsequently, the gemstone brooch dropped to the ground, accompanied by a crisp sound.

The dark and dull red ruby instantly shattered.
