[Vol. 3] Chapter 84: Not Someone Who Doesn’t Know What’s Good for Them
The dark elves living in the forest, along with their housing structures, are treehouses.
Ifia curiously observed for a while, only to find that the hastily constructed treehouses appeared somewhat shabby, with climbing vines entwined around them, resembling abandoned old houses with little signs of life.
She wondered what the dark elves were up to. After observing for a while, she only occasionally spotted a few dark elves moving around.
For a moment, Ifia was stunned, feeling like she had stepped into a primitive tribe, or perhaps one on the brink of abandonment. It seemed they were faring quite poorly! Considering the close proximity of the Dark Forest to the palace, the contrast was stark.
The guiding dark elf didn’t directly lead Amelia and Ifia into the settlement. Instead, it stopped near the settlement and, after showing them around, timidly spoke in a consultative tone, “I can introduce you to Elder Sylei. Please wait here.”
Although the dark elf led them to the settlement without hesitation, it was out of necessity. If given a choice, it wouldn’t want its kin to be persecuted by demons. However, in a situation where its own life was at stake, anyone would prioritize self-preservation.
It was no different for the dark elf. Now that it had saved its own life, it could afford to think about other matters.
For example, demons are inherently cruel, with unpredictable personalities. Who knows if the Demon Lord before them will suddenly turn violent? Therefore, the best approach is to keep the two parties separated, avoiding any contact between them. Once it meets Elder Sylei, it should be made clear in advance that the Demon Lord must be sent away promptly!
“No, what if you take this opportunity to collude with someone else and deceive us? Take us to see Elder Sylei together!”
However, before Amelia could respond, Ifia was the first to disagree. Ever since arriving at the dark elves’ lair, Ifia had been on edge, constantly worried about being ambushed by enemies.
She wouldn’t let this dark elf leave on its own!
Let it go and inform others?
Hmph!
She wasn’t that foolish!
Taking the dark elf along, she could use it as a hostage when the time came!
Therefore, Ifia pretended to glare fiercely at the dark elf, warning it not to entertain any other thoughts. It was useless! Nothing could escape her sharp eyes!
As for Amelia standing by, she remained silent at this point, but she was inclined to follow Ifia’s opinion.
Watching Ifia make her decision, the dark elf felt a bitter pang in her heart, but she could only endure it and continue to pray that other dark elves wouldn’t be foolish enough to provoke this demonic deity. However, fear brings what one fears!
“Qilin, how did you bring back two humans? That’s unusual.”
“And there’s new delicious food… Hiss, what is this…”
“Qilin, what are you doing!”
As the guiding dark elf attempted to lead the two along a secluded route to meet Elder Sylei, they unexpectedly encountered four or five other dark elves along the way.
Before they could finish their jesting remarks, they were quickly met with the howls of the Abyssal Domain’s wraiths. Each of them was terrified, and some even glared angrily at Qilin, the guiding dark elf, questioning her sharply while hurriedly retreating.
They wore expressions of fear akin to encountering a ferocious beast. Unlike the ferocious dark elves they had encountered at the palace, these ones appeared timid and frightened. This alleviated some of Ifia’s nervousness, making her feel that these individuals were hardly worth fearing!
Look at that, Amelia hadn’t even made a move yet, and the dark elves were already close to wetting themselves in fear~
Tsk tsk tsk, how cowardly!
Suddenly, the rain stopped and the sky cleared, and Ifia regained her composure. Mainly because she had Amelia as a backing, allowing Ifia to act arrogantly and start threatening these dark elves.
“Since we’ve met, don’t think about leaving. Follow us to meet Elder Sylei.”
She couldn’t give them a chance to inform others! Even if these dark elves seemed harmless, Ifia wouldn’t truly believe they were just a bunch of harmless sheep.
Their current fear was likely due to being intimidated by Amelia’s imposing presence. If Ifia encountered them alone, they probably would’ve tried to eat her by now…
Ifia was self-aware and didn’t feel bad about it. After all, everyone has their own strengths. While she might lack in physical prowess, she excelled in cooking. Plus, the highly skilled Amelia was there to protect her, acting as her personal bodyguard.
Thinking of this, Ifia stole a glance at Amelia, a sweet smile playing on her lips. Coincidentally, Amelia looked up at that moment, their eyes meeting briefly, causing Ifia to suddenly feel a bit embarrassed. She quickly averted her gaze as if nothing had happened, but then she slowly reached out and took Amelia’s hand.
“O-okay…”
Initially, the dark elves didn’t take Ifia’s words seriously. Their fear was directed towards the oppressive Demon Lord, not towards a gentle and powerless human like her.
Just a mere food item. How dare she command them! She really doesn’t know any better. But when the Demon Lord started applying pressure, countless wraiths began tearing at their souls. The pain of their souls being torn apart was more excruciating than physical injury, leaving these dark elves in agonizing torment.
They quickly humbled themselves, bowing to the humans they had looked down upon, nodding obediently in response. As soon as they responded, the wraiths ceased their torment, and the fear instilled by the oppression weakened slightly. The dark elves secretly felt relieved, while also refraining from underestimating Ifia any longer.
Seeing this, Qilin, the guiding dark elf, couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief. It had stood by silently, fearing being implicated and suffering the consequences. Now that the warning had been delivered, it was time to continue forward. Despite the Demon Lord’s fierce and cruel demeanor, Qilin believed that the excellent Elder Sylei could handle the situation perfectly.
“Let’s continue leading the way!”
When Amelia spoke, several dark elves obediently followed. However, as they proceeded, they occasionally cast resentful glances at Qilin. Even though they didn’t speak, their meaning was clear—they were all silently accusing Qilin of being a traitor!
Ignoring their accusations, Qilin simply trudged forward in silence, quickening its pace and leaving Ifia panting to keep up. Observing the dark elves’ usual behavior, Amelia remained as composed as ever.
Ifia sighed quietly to herself. She had thought her body was gradually improving, but after only a few days, she found herself slipping back into old habits of laziness.
“Feeling tired?”
Just as Ifia was feeling like a weakling, Amelia’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear. Before Ifia could respond, Amelia reached out and swiftly lifted her into her arms, carrying her forward steadily.
Being spared from walking indeed relieved Ifia’s immediate concerns. However, she wasn’t ungrateful. In a gesture of gratitude, Ifia hugged Amelia’s neck and pecked her cheek like a joyful little bird.
With her eyes shining brightly, Ifia confidently stated, “This is a token of gratitude.”
This elicited a smile from Amelia, who radiated a sense of contentment.
While the atmosphere between the two improved, the dark elves ahead exchanged puzzled glances, scratching their heads with claws, unsure of what the Demon Lord was up to with the human.
At this moment, they felt like they were being a hindrance here…
Fortunately, they soon arrived at the treehouse of Elder Sylei. With no need to continue leading the way, these dark elves lost their purpose. Just as Amelia was about to harvest the souls of the dark elves, Ifia acted before her.
Having already determined the direction of the wind, Ifia, slipping out of Amelia’s embrace, promptly retrieved a vial of sleeping potion from her belt. To ensure that the dark elves wouldn’t resist, Ifia generously poured out the entire bottle of sleeping potion. The results were very pleasing.
Seeing the dark elves unconscious, Ifia turned around with satisfaction and said to Amelia, “Now we don’t have to worry about them colluding with other dark elves.” She wore an expression of seeking praise.
“Ifia, you’re amazing!”
Amelia reached out and pinched Ifia’s soft cheeks, not minding the sparse souls. After soothing the little one, she immediately led her up to the treehouse.
Having already located it upon entering the dark elves’ settlement, Amelia didn’t hesitate.
Under the threat of magic, Elder Sylei dared not act rashly and could only wait for their arrival.
Having the dark elves lead the way was just a cover-up, a deception for Ifia. Therefore, there was no question of being duped. Instead, the door of the treehouse was already open, ready to welcome them.
As Ifia stepped into the spacious treehouse and saw Elder Sylei seated at the table, she immediately widened her eyes in shock, her face filled with disbelief.
How come Elder Sylei looked so different from the other dark elves?!
