Extra Chapter 8: Pinky Promise
Currently, Amelia and Ifia were participating in a mandatory internship at the church for the first-year students of Pulis Academy because the church happened to be short-staffed.
After nearly two hours, Amelia and Ifia finally finished cleaning the church’s front hall.
Why were they doing this job even though it wasn’t typically an intern’s task? It was because a nun named Taroumati instructed them to clean the church’s front hall.
Although it sounded strange, Amelia felt that the nun named Taroumati had a personal grudge against her and Ifia, deliberately assigning them the task of cleaning the large church hall.
Amelia always saw a resentment look from that nun every time she looked at her. It was as if Amelia had almost killed her several times.
Had she ever caused trouble for the nun in the past?
But Amelia was very sure this was the first time they had met.
“Finally, we’re done cleaning,” said Ifia.
“Ifia, you can sit down first. I’ll get you some water.”
“You don’t have to go through the trouble, Amelia. I can…”
Before Ifia could finish her sentence, Amelia grabbed her and made her sit in a chair.
“Ifia, you contributed the most to this, given that I’m not used to doing this kind of work. You’ve always been kind to me. So now it’s my turn.”
After six months together, their relationship could be described as best friends. And this isn’t the definition of “best friends” from Amelia’s previous readings and system’s missions.
When she asked the system about that, it replied, ?Host, you yourself assumed it was something done within a friendship.?. Surely, the system deliberately did not want to tell her.
On the other hand, the system was currently facing difficulties. Its host has become more understanding about this kind of thing and couldn’t be easily fooled like the previous stupid host.
“Achooo!”
In another world, Ifia let out a sudden sneeze while her small family was enjoying quality time together at their own garden.
The weather’s great and she’s feeling fine, so why did she just sneeze? Could it be that someone has been speaking ill of her?
“Ifia, are you cold?”
“Mom! Are you okay?”
“Are you feeling unwell, Mom?”
“Mom, let me do healing magic on you.”
Ifia: ……
Amelia, Cheryl, Daryl, and Gabriel’s worried voices came one after another after Ifia sneezed.
Ifia was happy with the attention from her family, but why did they all seem to be competing to show their affection for her?
The objective of this ‘family bonding’ activity was to improve relations between family members, who usually don’t get along with each other except when it comes to Ifia. But now she felt like they were doing this just to please her.
(¬_¬”)
“I’m fine, don’t worry. I just suddenly sneezed for no reason,” Ifia smiled slightly as she said.
The scene returns to the previous world, where Amelia was still thinking about the intimate actions she once took toward Ifia.
At that time, Ifia directly pointed out that the actions Amelia took, based on “that” book, were not actions typical of friends. Whenever Amelia recalls that, she feels very embarrassed, but fortunately, Ifia didn’t think badly of her.
But clearly, “that” book added a new understanding for Amelia.
If that person were Ifia, it actually doesn’t matter to her.
Ahh!! What was she thinking!!
Ifia was her best friend, especially since her best friend was always kind and caring towards her, but she was thinking inappropriately about her friend.
Even though Amelia tried to deny it, she really couldn’t lie to her own feelings. She really wanted their relationship to be more than it was now.
Not far from there, a brown-haired noble girl was observing Amelia and Ifia. The girl’s eyes lit up brightly, as if she had found a precious treasure. She looked like someone couldn’t live without gossip, it was as if gossip had become a part of her life.
“That closeness! From any angle, they are definitely lovers.”
“As a noble, you’re too weird.”
Suddenly, a girl dressed as a nun appeared behind the noble girl. The nun spoke as if she were accustomed to the behavior of the noble girl in front of her.
“Ahem… Sister Austin, what are you doing here?” said Jessica, slightly panicked.
“I should be the one asking that.”
“You didn’t follow me, did you? Why do you always appear behind me whenever I do something?”
“Anyone would appear if they saw someone doing strange things like you are right now, Jessica.”
“Who’s doing something strange? Don’t make baseless accusations!”
“On the first day of the internship, you tried to sneak around to see Saint Tiffany’s residence. On the second day, you put itching powder in Sister Nornada’s drink because you had a disagreement with her on the first day. On the third day…”
“Stop it!”
Jessica’s face turned red with embarrassment, and she couldn’t look at Austin. Seeing this, Austin wanted to tease her even more.
“I won’t tell anyone if you beg me.”
“What do you want? Are you really a nun?”
“I just thought it would be interesting if news about the daughter of Marquis Lilace doing strange things during her internship at the church became a hot topic.”
Hearing this, Jessica could only comply with Austin and said quietly.
“I… please don’t… I’m sorry…”
“What? I can’t hear you. Can you say it louder, Jessica?”
“Sister Austin, I’m sorry! Please don’t do that, I’m begging you!”
“Alright, alright, I won’t do it. Let’s meet again in the future.”
“Meet again? I won’t be coming back here after my internship.”
“I’m the one who will visit you.”
As she was about to leave, Austin suddenly stopped and looked at Jessica with a mischievous smile.
“Actually, you didn’t need to beg like that because I just saw and have no proof you did those things.”
“You!!!”
At the same time, Amelia returned with a bottle of water for Ifia.
“Thank you for your hard work, Ifia.”
“I should be the one saying that, Amelia. Thank you for your hard work.”
They both smiled at each other, their eyes full of affection. Anyone who saw this would know their relationship was not simple, but unfortunately, these two were clueless when it came to things like that.
Not long after, one of the interns and also their classmate at Pulis Academy came over to them. She was one of the people, apart from Amelia, who helped Ifia adapt at the beginning when she entered Pulis Academy.
“Ifia and Miss Barlen, Saint Tiffany is calling for you.”
“Saint Tiffany is calling for us? May we know why, Lucy?” asked Ifia.
“I don’t know either. I was just asked to summon you now.”
“Alright, we understand. Let’s go, Amelia.”
Lucy then escorted Amelia and Ifia to the main hall of the church. There, they saw a saint kneeling and appearing to pray, with a blonde-haired, emerald-eyed nun standing beside her.
After they entered the room, Saint Tiffany suddenly stood up and faced them. Just seeing Saint Tiffany from a distance, her holy aura was truly palpable, completely unlike that of an ordinary human.
“Saint, I have brought them here,” said Lucy.
“Thank you, you may return to your duties. May God bless you.”
After Lucy left, only the four of them remained in the room.
“Miss Barlen and Ifia, I apologize for the behavior of one of the church members. You should not have been treated that way.”
Saint Tiffany then looked at the nun beside her, indicating something.
“I… Sorry.”
“Taroumati!”
“I apologize for the unpleasant treatment. I truly regret it and will not repeat it. I sincerely apologize, Ahriman… ahem… Miss Barlen and Miss Ifia.”
Amelia and Ifia glanced at each other. They didn’t know what to say and finally Ifia responded to them.
“Saint Tiffany and Sister Taroumati did nothing wrong. It’s only natural for us to help the church.”
“Ifia, thank you for your kindness, but this was indeed not a duty that should have been assigned to interns. I will ensure that such things do not happen again.”
Saint Tiffany continued, “You have worked hard today because of our mistake. You don’t need to do anything more today. You can rest now. Once again, we apologize.”
“Alright, we understand. Saint Tiffany, we’ll take our leave now. May God bless you.”
After that, Amelia and Ifia went to the room provided for the interns. Their departure left the room quiet, with only Saint Tiffany and Taroumati remaining.
The atmosphere made Taroumati a bit uneasy. It seemed like she had made Saint Tiffany very angry, and she couldn’t imagine herself having to sleep outside later. Finally, Taroumati tried to break the silence.
“Tiffany, please don’t keep ignoring me. I truly regret it.”
Saint Tiffany, with her unchanging expression, remained silent after hearing Taroumati’s words. Then she simply left Taroumati alone in the room.
“Tiffany!!”
……………
Each room provided for the interns had two beds. Of course, Amelia and Ifia shared the same room.
As for why the two of them shared a room, everyone knew full well, but no one said anything.
After reaching the room, Ifia looked very tired and immediately lay down on the bed after changing clothes.
Seeing Ifia wanting to rest immediately, Amelia quickly called out to her.
“Ifia?”
“What is it, Amelia?”
Previously, Amelia often invited Ifia to her villa at Pulis Academy under the pretense of studying together and managed to get Ifia to stay overnight, even though Amelia had other motives to be close to Ifia. Unfortunately, they never slept in the same bed.
“T-this… I-I… Can I sleep with you?”
Her earlier thoughts about Ifia made Amelia brave enough to ask.
“A-Amelia, what are you…”
“I-I’m sorry… I didn’t mean… I just…”
“Of course you can,” Ifia said softly.
“I understand, I shouldn’t have… eh, what?”
“I mean, let’s sleep together.”
What were you thinking, Amelia? Ifia said that probably because she was very tired. But Amelia selfishly took advantage of it because she liked Ifia.
On the other hand, Ifia felt her actions were selfish. She really wanted to do this, and now she felt like she was taking advantage of Amelia’s innocence for her own happiness.
As Amelia slipped into Ifia’s bed, they looked at each other from a very close distance. With something seemingly bothering Amelia, she suddenly said to Ifia,
“Ifia, you won’t leave me, right?”
“Why are you saying this, Amelia?”
“I… I see you working hard like you’re trying to achieve something. I’m afraid that once you succeed, you’ll leave me. I’m sorry, Ifia, I shouldn’t…”
As Amelia said this, her eyes began to redden as she held back tears. She was very afraid of losing something precious in her life.
Since being with Ifia, Amelia’s life had become more vibrant. She felt like she had found a light in her life. Amelia knew she was being selfish, but she couldn’t imagine her life without Ifia.
On the other hand, Ifia found Amelia very adorable. Was this the reason Amelia suddenly wanted to sleep with her?
It had been several months since they had been together, and Ifia knew Amelia very well. Ifia had never seen anyone as kind and sincere as Amelia. Amelia never expected any reward for what she did.
One of the mysteries at Pulis Academy was a kind-hearted, mysterious person. This person always donated to various activities without giving their name and even did simple things like taking out the trash anonymously, just to help.
Ifia knew that person was Amelia. But Amelia never told anyone that she was the one doing those things.
Ifia believed Amelia only saw her as a friend. Initially, Ifia also regarded Amelia as her little sister. But over time, those feelings changed. Ifia knew she shouldn’t have strange thoughts about Amelia.
Ifia was well aware of her status, she was just a commoner. She knew she wasn’t worthy of Amelia at the moment. She needed to make a name for herself so she could be worthy of standing by Amelia’s side.
That’s why Ifia worked hard, excelling academically and achieving first place recently. She wanted to be someone worthy of being by Amelia’s side after graduation.
“Amelia, I won’t leave you. I’m more afraid that you, Amelia, will leave me.”
“How could that happen? I won’t.”
“Then let’s promise each other that we will never leave each other’s side.”
Ifia extended her pinky finger to Amelia, and Amelia did the same to Ifia.
“Okay, it’s a deal. Pinky promise, one hundred years without changing.”
As the afternoon sun painted the world golden, a silent understanding passed between them, and with a bright smile, the two intertwined their pinkies. In that connection, a promise bloomed, pure and heartfelt, as beautiful as the day itself.
“Thank you.”
When Amelia said that, she immediately hugged Ifia tightly, a reminder of their not-so-simple relationship.
Amelia was very adorable at that moment, and Ifia couldn’t help but respond to her hug. She gently pulled Amelia closer into her arms. They could feel each other’s warmth in that embrace.
To Amelia, Ifia was really fragrant, soft, and comforting. On the other hand, she was very afraid. Afraid that Ifia would no longer be by her side.
Could their relationship become more than this?
At that moment, they were both unaware that they were each making a vow to themselves to become better individuals for the person in front of them.
In the midst of that warmth and sweet fragrance, they hugged each other without saying anything else until they both fell asleep.
They slept until they awoke from their sweet dreams. Then, when they opened their eyes, they smiled to find the person they love was the first thing they saw.
