~End of chapter 228

The crown prince’s residence was in chaos the whole night. The servants stayed up most of the night, without any sleep, as pots after pots of blood were brought out from the crown prince’s bedchamber.

Ordinary drugs to stop the bleeding were all uneffective, and the bleeding wasn’t stopping at all.

Ming Zhu was like an outsider watching them work, as she stood helplessly by the bedside. No one had the time to care about her either.

The imperial doctor was sweating profusely as he finally stopped the bleeding at dawn.

The intendant Lin hurriedly asked, “How is His Highness now?”

Chapter 229

(81.3)

The intendant Lin hurriedly asked, “How is His Highness now?”

The imperial doctor wiped the sweat from his face with his sleeve, his expression grave, “It’s difficult to say.”

The intendant Lin was deeply regretful, “His Highness was still in good spirits at first, and his injuries didn’t seem like they’re very serious.”

The imperial doctor said: “This stabbing almost reached the crown prince’s heart, fortunately the blade was inserted in an inclined position. Usually it would be nothing serious, but the bleeding was too much, now it’s difficult to say whether he will be alright or not.”

After a long pause of hesitation, the imperial doctor then said: “The crown prince’s injury is not light, did you send someone to the palace to pass on the news?”

The intendant Lin shook his head, “Not yet. His Highness dislikes it when his subordinates take decisions without his authorization.”

“Intendant Lin, this is a matter of great importance, even if you don’t say anything, I am going to report the news to the palace regardless.”

The intendant Lin was in a dilemma, how did the crown prince get this injury? Anyone with eyes could see it clearly.

It was miss Ming Zhu who had stabbed him.

If this matter were to spread, miss Ming Zhu’s end would not be good.

The intendant Lin said, “It’s better to wait until His Highness wakes up.”

At first, Ming Zhu thought that she would not be able to sleep, but she slept better than anyone else this night and did not have the endless nightmare of being killed by Zhao Zhi over and over again.

When she woke up from her sleep, it was nearly noon.

There was no one in the side room, she sat up from the bed and looked out the window with empty eyes.

In a daze for a while, she finally came back to her senses and walked out of the room, standing in the courtyard to bask in the sun.

Her footsteps unconsciously lead her to the door of Zhao Zhi’s bedroom.

The intendant Lin hadn’t slept all night long, his hair was already starting to turn white from the worry. When he saw Ming Zhu, he felt angry, but was unable to do anything about it. He could only walk up to her, “Crown Princess, His Highness hasn’t woken up yet, why don’t you go in and take a look at him ?”

Ming Zhu couldn’t move her feet when she heard the unfamiliar address.

“Is he still not awake?”

“The imperial doctor said that His Highness is not doing well.”

Ming Zhu understood, she turned her face and looked at him with especially innocent eyes as she asked, “Is Zhao Zhi going to die?”

The intendant Lin gritted his teeth, “The imperial doctor said that if His Highness doesn’t wake up tonight, he won’t wake up again.”

Ming Zhu’s eyebrows furrowed.

The intendant Lin hardened his heart and pushed her directly into the room regardless of her will.

The bedroom with closed doors and windows was dimly lit, and a large portion of the sunlight was blocked out.

Inside, there was a strong and lingering smell of medicinal herbs, and the room was so quiet that one could hear the sound of breathing.

The blood on the floor had been cleaned up, as if last night’s tragic situation had never happened.

But the dagger by the bedside was still on the ground, no one had moved it.

There were remnants of blood on the hilt of the dagger.

Ming Zhu didn’t like it here. She turned her head, about to run out, but the door of the room was locked from the outside, and no matter how much strength she used to push, she was unable to push the door open.

Ming Zhu’s back slowly slid down against the door, and she sat on the floor, not moving.

Only when her legs were starting to get numb from sitting did Ming Zhu get back on her feet. She walked to the footrest by the bedside and lowered her head to look at the person on the bed.

She touched his face with her hand. It was cold, without any warmth.

Ming Zhu looked at the wound on his chest and lifted the gauze, there were black herbs pasted on his wound.

Ming Zhu felt that it was really pointless. She didn’t want to stay here but she also couldn’t get out.

She thought she would be very sad, but her heart wasn’t as sad as she thought it would be.

She was alone, talking to herself, “Zhao Zhi, are you going to die?”

“A scourge lasts thousands of years, I suppose you’re not going to die that easily.”

She was thirsty now.

She served herself a glass of water and sipped twice. Once the corners of her dry lips were moisturized, she had the strength to continue talking, “They’ve locked me up with you.”

She was afraid.

Afraid that Zhao Zhi was no longer breathing, and that she was sharing that place with a corpse.

Ming Zhu’s fingertips were cold and icy, and she suddenly said, “I miss my mother so much.”

She still wanted to return to Jiangnan.

She missed those carefree years.

Tears were about to flow out of her her eyes as she said, “I just want to live an ordinary and peaceful life.”

She didn’t want heavenly riches, nor monstrous power either.

Ming Zhu wasn’t sure if he could hear what she was saying.

After she was tired speaking, she leaned down against the edge of the bed and rested, having nothing to do but count the eyelashes under his eyes as a distraction.

An unknown amount of time passed and Ming Zhu heard her stomach growl.

She hadn’t eaten anything all day and her stomach was empty.

She touched her stomach and said to the man on the bed, “Zhao Zhi, I’m hungry.”

She curved the corners of her mouth downwards, feeling a little wronged, “I miss Wei Chiyu, he would cook for me.”
