At the Prime Minister’s residence.

Although spring had arrived in Chang’an, Huo Lang’s solitary study still had a well-stoked brazier.

Shortly after Madam Gao entered the room, she felt uncomfortably hot. However, Huo Lang, sitting comfortably in a wheelchair, felt no heat at all. The man was not wearing a hat, and over his dark-colored clothes, he had draped a large cloak.

Despite his age, Huo Lang remained lean, with a demeanor that retained the remnants of past elegance. His hair was streaked with white, but the commanding presence of his youth still persisted, with his facial features and contours vaguely revealing the brilliance of his earlier years.

Madam Gao quietly watched as Huo Lan played chess alone. She recalled the first time she saw him, though he was approaching middle age, his cold and pure temperament, like ice and jade, and the occasional faint melancholy that revealed itself between his eyebrows, still made her, a young maiden in her prime, feel a flutter in her heart.

At this moment, a servant’s report came from outside the pavilion: “Lord Prime Minister, the eldest young master is outside the courtyard and wishes to see you.”

Madam Gao was originally preparing tea for Huo Lang. Upon hearing that Huo Pingxiao had come to see Huo Lang on his own initiative, her hand holding the tea tongs froze in mid-air, no longer moving.

Huo Lang remained focused on the chess game on the jade board. Holding a black piece in his hand, poised to make a move, after a “thud” sound, the black piece landed on a chess square.

Seeing the chessboard undergo a profound change in an instant, Huo Lang casually spoke, “Let him in.”

After Huo Pingxiao entered the room and saw Madam Gao was also present, he nodded slightly at her to show respect.

Madam Gao didn’t really want to see this living Yama, so she stood up from the tea table, bowed to Huo Lang, and softly said, “Lord Prime Minister, this concubine will take her leave first.”

Huo Lang nodded at her.

However, Huo Pingxiao said, “Madam, please wait a moment. I have something to discuss with both of you.”

Madam Gao found this puzzling. If Huo Pingxiao had something to say to Huo Lang, it wouldn’t be surprising, but why would he want her to stay?

After Huo Pingxiao took his seat, he began, “I will go to battle in Qianzhong tomorrow. It will take at least a month before I can return to Chang’an.”

Meanwhile, Madam Gao signaled to her maids to quickly serve tea to the two lords. In her mind, although this Yama had gone to war many times before, he never discussed anything with her and Huo Lang in the past.

Today, this Yama seems to be in a different mood!

Huo Lang’s right arm rested on the armrest of the wheelchair, and he silently glanced at Huo Pingxiao. Then he asked in a low voice, “Which family’s daughter is it this time?”

The Madam Gao was taken aback, uncertain about the meaning of the Lord’s words. Why did he suddenly say such a thing to Huo Pingxiao?

“How about you don’t worry about this,” Huo Pingxiao said. He glanced at the tea brought by the maidservant, then withdrew his gaze and continued, “Let me inform both of you first. When I return from Qianzhong, I will choose an auspicious day as soon as possible to get married to her.”

“!!!”

After hearing this, Madam Gao suddenly realized that the formidable Young Master Huo was going to get married!

Doesn’t that mean Huo Pingxiao will finally move out of the mansion?!

Madam Gao covered her joy and said to Huo Pingxiao, “You’re twenty-five already; it’s time to get married. The wedding with Changjue and the He family can be postponed for another month or two. As your stepmother, I will help you with the wedding arrangements.”

Madam Gao hadn’t figured out which girl from which family Huo Pingxiao was marrying, but her happiness overwhelmed her.

“Then, thank you, Madam.”

After expressing his gratitude, Huo Pingxiao intended to leave the room.

When getting up from his seat, Huo Pingxiao noticed Huo Lang’s unpredictable expression. Huo Pingxiao furrowed his brow, then added, “By the way.”

—”The girl gave birth to a son for me, and now the Prime Minister is going to be a grandfather.”

Son? Grandfather?!

The smile on Madam Gao’s lips suddenly stiffened. She looked incredulously at Huo Pingxiao and then at Huo Lang, who remained expressionless.

Since when did Huo Pingxiao have a son, and who gave birth to his son?

This unmarried girl, who could perform the rites of marriage with her future husband, must not be a noblewoman from a prestigious family. Wasn’t this an unconventional union without a matchmaker?

But if she wasn’t from a noble family, why would Huo Pingxiao grant her the status of a legal wife? Madam Gao felt bewildered and, at the same time, felt that her own son, Huo Changjue, though not as outstanding as Huo Pingxiao, was more well-behaved.

Unlike Huo Pingxiao, who seemed to engage in unconventional and rebellious acts.

Madam Gao understood Huo Pingxiao’s temperament. If he said he was going to marry that girl, he would definitely do it.

Neither the emperor nor his father could stop him from doing what he wanted.

However, for him to do such a thing, as a father, Huo Lang should at least criticize him.

Thinking of this, Madam Gao looked again at Huo Lang, who sat in the wheelchair with an expressionless gaze, quietly waiting for him to criticize Huo Pingxiao.

However, Huo Lang did not reprimand Huo Pingxiao. He just asked calmly, “Where is your son? I want to see him.”
