For words with superscript (Ex. Word1), you can check their meaning at the end. I also put pictures.

Inside the county yamen.

Magistrate Tang followed behind Supervisor Liang with a flattering expression. A group of officials followed the two, passing through the imposing archway in front of the yamen, where one could see solemn buildings such as Qiao Tower, Vermilion Platform, and Ritual Gate.

On one side, the officials walked through a corridor and entered a spacious, five-roomed, simple, and ancient hall.

On the other side, soldiers and Steward Liu, holding onto Huo Pingxiao, entered the yamen from a side door.

Ruan An was blocked by soldiers with knives outside the door. Although she knew Huo Pingxiao’s true identity, as an ordinary civilian, once she entered the imposing entrance of the yamen, she couldn’t help but feel scared.

The girl’s gentle face revealed concern as she tiptoed, constantly peering into the hall.

But suddenly, Huo Pingxiao broke free from the soldiers’ spears. Before the two soldiers beside him could react, he turned and looked at Ruan An.

The midday sun was shining brightly, and facing the light, Huo Pingxiao’s jet-black pupils gradually became lighter. The sharp edge of his eyes remained unyielding.

People like him were always the most eye-catching wherever they went, like the dazzling sun in the sky.

The man made a gesture with his mouth to her: “Relax, heart”

Ruan An’s eyes revealed subtle ripples, and her heart fluttered as if it were flowing with the water, swaying ceaselessly, carrying an indescribable palpitation.

The girl’s emotions eased slightly, and she nodded at him.

Steward Liu sternly instructed the officials to closely watch Huo Pingxiao and not allow him to move recklessly.

Inside the hall, Imperial Censor Liang wore a light red official robe with a waistband adorned with a goose-mouthed knot. The coronet on his head, shaped like a xiezhi1 (a mythical creature), made his whole demeanor dignified and upright.

After he took his seat, County Magistrate Tang couldn’t help but feel a bit uneasy, even anxious. This unexpected inspection by the Imperial Censor was putting pressure on him. If Steward Liu, who was still recovering today, wasn’t present, County Magistrate Tang felt that handling matters would be troublesome.

Behind County Magistrate Tang, a subordinate sent a clerk, saying, “Go and summon Steward Liu from his home.”

After a while, a clerk came from outside the hall, respectfully reporting, “Steward Liu has arrived and has also captured a ruffian who was occupying the mountains.”

County Magistrate Tang was delighted; he hadn’t achieved any political success in nearly half a year.

Steward Liu was indeed a good helper for him, bringing political achievements. This ruffian might be related to the banditry issue in Jiazhou, and County Magistrate Tang estimated that he would receive praise from the Imperial Censor.

It was truly wonderful.

With this in mind, County Magistrate Tang cleared his throat and said to Imperial Censor Liang, “Imperial Censor Liang, coincidentally, a prisoner has just arrived. Would you like him to come to the front of the hall for interrogation, or should we temporarily detain him in the prison?”

Imperial Censor Liang replied calmly, “No hurry, County Magistrate Tang can interrogate the prisoner first.”

County Magistrate Tang ordered his subordinates, “Let Steward Liu bring that ruffian into the hall.”

“Wei Wu—” 2

The bailiffs on both sides of the high hall, holding water and fire sticks with black on top and red on the bottom 3, repeatedly struck the ground with a few loud sounds.

After Steward Liu and the soldiers escorting Huo Pingxiao entered the hall, they saw an unfamiliar official sitting solemnly on a chair on the side.

Steward Liu, feeling bewildered, saw Imperial Censor Liang rise from his seat and walk towards them.

“Your subordinate pays respects to Marquis Dingbei.”

Imperial Censor Liang bowed with cupped hands, showing deference to the man beside Steward Liu.

Marquis, Ding, Bei.

Accompanied by the condemning gaze of the County Magistrate Tang, Steward Liu felt as if his head was about to explode with a resounding “boom.”

Marquis Dingbei, these words, were like sharp blades, stabbing directly at his wildly beating heart.

This guy is actually Duke Dingbei, Huo Pingxiao?

Huo Pingxiao was the current Marquis of the county, the legitimate eldest son of the influential Hu Lang, a highly decorated general with outstanding military achievements, and the current Military Governor of Jiannan, still holding the position of the Jiannan Protector.

Jiannan controlled several dozen states, counties, and hundreds of cities.

And he, Steward Liu, was just a minor official in one of the counties in Jiazhou’s Jianwei county…

Thinking of this, Steward Liu’s eyes darkened, and with a “plop,” he knelt on the ground.
