Fun Territory Defense of the Easy-Going Lord - Chapter 133
Making a Base
There was no point in dwelling on it. I changed my mind and sent a request to the Bellrango Chamber of Commerce and the Merchant’s Guild.
I asked the Bellrango Chamber of Commerce and the guilds for portable food, seasonings, clothing, weapons, and medical supplies that would last for a long time. The knights had enough bows and arrows and magic tools, so there was no need to go to the trouble of preparing additional supplies.
After that, I would have to consult with Espada and Dee and decide on the details regarding the soldiers’ lodging and medical facilities.
With this in mind, I called them up. They both heard what was going on and responded respectively, Espada silently smiling and Dee tapping his chest before speaking.
“That’s good! Let us show them how much Van-sama has developed his territory!”
“Don’t mention it like that, Dee…it would be so depressing to make a complete enemy of the Marquis family, wouldn’t it?”
Espada raised an eyebrow and looked a little surprised when I said so.
“…The way Van-sama put it, it sounds more like you’re feeling annoyed than afraid that a feud will break out between you and the head of the house.”
“Yes? Well, of course. To be honest, I am confident that we can win even if confronted. I saw them use magic during our last fight, so I’ve already thought of a countermeasure. I probably won’t lose if they come at me head-on.”
When I answered Espada’s question honestly, Espada and Dee looked stunned for a moment and immediately started laughing.
I was unusual for even Espada to laugh aloud.
“What? What’s wrong?”
I asked, and Dee shook his head from side to side, trembling.
“No, I beg your pardon, but Espada-dono and I have always had the feeling that Van-sama lacks confidence. No, I didn’t put it into proper words, but I have the impression that he feels somewhat put off by his father and siblings.”
When Dee said so, Espada also lightly rubbed his chin and followed up.
“Van-sama is the one we have recognized as our new master. That is precisely the kind of spirit we wanted you to have, that you would not be outdone by your father. We are excited to hear that you did possess that spirit.”
Again, unusually for him but Espada was in a good mood and speaks his mind. Apparently, he wanted me to be a confident, follow-me kind of master.
Well, I’ll do my best. As for me personally, this Seat Village was simply the best.
With that jest in my head, I shrugged my shoulders and got down to business.
“For now, I’m thinking of building accommodations along the road a little ways from the adventurers’ town. I think it should be able to accommodate about three hundred people if it’s only for knights of a certain rank and above, what do you think?”
Dee nodded in confirmation.
“If it’s limited to generals and above, I’d say a hundred to two hundred would be fine.”
Dee told me, and Espada snorted, pinching his chin.
“There are only a hundred to three hundred that can stay at an inn, no matter which city they are based in. The rest will be staying at an encampment. But about twenty or so must have more luxurious rooms than the rest.”
“That’s for the upper-class nobility. Then, I’ll prepare 200. The rest will be treatment centers. This one should be able to accommodate a hundred people as well, right?”
I confirmed, and Dee replies.
“A place that can host as many as a thousand people is good, but in a tough battlefield, even a roof over your head is sometimes all you need. Well, a simple warehouse-like building would probably be enough. But…”
I looked at Dee as I was thinking about how we should approach this.
“Well, why don’t we show father what we have in store, what do you think?”
Dee said, and Espada nodded.
“Yes, I suppose so. Van-sama’s power may already be known to the other nobles. So I think we should make something a little more elaborate to show them that it is not a good idea to antagonize us.”
“Sigh, and, we’ve only got a week to prepare, right? I was working on the furnace yesterday, so I’d like to take it easy if possible.”
I said this with a pout, and Dee crosses his arms and groans.
“Well, but…”
Espada exhales briefly as he looked annoyed at Dee.
“If it won’t be too much work for you, why not build something like a public bathhouse instead. It would be enough for them to be able to take a bath in the main part of the building, and have something like a rest area.”
“A Public Bathhouse you say?”
Hearing the word “public bathhouse,” I get a little excited. The average citizen has never been in a bathhouse for a large group of people. So, when they see a public bathhouse, they should be overjoyed.
I guess it can’t be helped. They must be tired from the march, and they want to clean up.
I quickly came up with a plan for the bathhouse, giving a variety of reasons why I was doing it. It would be a spacious three-story building, with the first floor used as a public bath and rest area. The second floor would be smaller private rooms. The third floor would be a large private room for aristocrats. There should be 20 toilets on each floor. Since the bathhouse would be huge, I should also make a waterwheel, water tank, and water heater that would be a little larger than usual and build two of them.
As I played with these thoughts, I realized that the base planning was complete. To my horror and without realizing it, I completed the lodging facility with a public bath in just two days because I was so absorbed in building it.
