Fun Territory Defense of the Easy-Going Lord - Chapter 167
Fort Completed
“Hurry up! Sturdiness is more important than height!”
“Watch out for attacks from above! They might climb over the wall!”
I heard these instructions and warnings flying around in a loud voice, and I focused my attention on the fort construction. As planned, the construction of the fort went several times faster thanks to the building materials I had prepared.
However, due to the large amount of building materials, mistakes are seen here and there.
“Oh, that one’s the floor! Put it down there!”
“Hey!”
“Oh, that’s for the outermost wall!”
“I got it!”
While pointing out mistakes here and there, the temporarily assembled building materials are hastily joined together. The wall made of clay magic had been properly repaired, so the next step was to properly build the functioning fortress.
Just as I was thinking that, I heard the sound of horses’ footsteps on the other side of the wall. And the next moment, a series of shocks and explosions rang out on the wall made of earth magic.
“Wow, another black ball attack! How many do they have in stock! They should be exhausted by now, normally!”
Even through the walls, an explosion is a sound you don’t want to hear over and over again. It hurts my ears, and the vibrations of the sound echoing in my stomach instill fear in me, whether I want it to or not. After being forced to listen to the sound of explosions so many times in proximity to me, I complained to myself, throwing a temper tantrum.
Even those who barely comprehend what gunpowder is must be terrified of it, especially those in the Knight’s Order who don’t know how it works.
Even in a world with magic, gunpowder will become an important weapon in the future. I wonder if it would be possible to somehow build it at Seat Village.
As I was thinking about this while building the fort, another shock shook the walls, this time with a different impact and sound than the previous explosion. It seems that they are concentrating their attacks on the once-broken parts, just as intended.
“Hahaha. Naive! You are so naive, Jiernetta Kingdom Army! By the way, I want sweet cream buns! If you don’t have any, please give me cream puffs!”
My ears hurt, my voice and sound became distant, and I shouted unintelligible words with a tension I didn’t understand. Is this what is called an extreme situation in war? I doubt if I can call it that, since I haven’t even fought a real battle.
Thinking about the stupidity of the situation, we set out to complete the fort at once. The second floor was already completed, so all that remained was to build the towers for the third and fourth floors.
“Dee! I’m going up to the second floor!”
“Yes!”
I called out to Dee, to which he replied with a smile. Then Ortho, Arv, Roe, and Camsin quickly start running with materials.
“Grab the Wood Block and run!”
“We’re running against time!”
As we are climbing the stairs, the people with the materials are the first to go up. No, no, even I have been trained by Dee, how is it that they have so much stamina than me?”
As I climbed to the rooftop, I suddenly became blinded. It was as if I had walked into a sandstorm, and I involuntarily braced myself and looked around.
“This seems to be a dust storm caused by magic and the black ball.”
Standing in front of me, Dee said this with his shield at the ready. Meanwhile, there is intermittent impact on the wall. Since it was not the sound of an explosion, it was probably an attack by magic.
“Your visibility is bad. I can’t see the opponent’s movements, so let’s hurry up and just form it.”
Dee’s body shook right after I said that, I felt relieved when I saw Dee’s back.
“Nnn…!”
Dee’s body shifted toward me. Apparently, his shield protected him from some kind of magic.
“Dee!”
“Wahahaha! No problem!”
I called his name in surprise, but he seemed to be in perfect health. He lightly rotated his shoulders and readjusted his shield once again. Looking at his feet, he saw pieces of rock the size of his fist lying around. Apparently, a large rock flew at him and he destroyed it with his shield. He is a terrifying man.
Once again, I reconfirmed Dee’s abnormality as I built up the fort. The center and left, and right towers were each fitted with a narrow window, through which we devised a way to position our bows and arrows.
“Van-sama! The view will soon clear up!”
Dee reports to me just as the right tower is finished.
“That was just in time, wasn’t it?”
With a wry smile, I quickly build up the uneven wall on the rooftop portion. With this, the front part of the fort is complete.
“… This is going to be great.”
Dee muttered as he looked up at the tower section as we were about to head back inside the fort.
“What are you talking about?”
I turned around and asked back, and Dee turned to me with a huff.
“No, I mean this fort. To be able to build a fort like this in such a short time…this would be a game-changing event in the war. Too bad, the only person who could do this is Van-sama.”
Saying this, Dee put his hands on his hips and laughed.
“No, no, my work is not done yet. Give me your impressions later, and I’ll hurry up and build the equipment for the defense!”
“Oh, that ballista? That’s good. At this distance, I’m sure they’ll be thrilled with it.”
While having this conversation with Dee, who seemed to be in a great mood, I hurriedly set up the ballista on the top of the fortress. It’s only a double-barreled ballista, but it should be enough.
“We have shields, so we should be fine…hmm? Is our opponent arguing with each other?”
I looked in the direction of the fortress to check the operation of the ballistas, but it looked like two knights, who looked like great men, were facing each other and quarreling on the castle wall.
What are they doing at a time like this? As I tilted my head, Dee shrugged his shoulders and laughed next to me.
“That one must think that our objective is only to build a fort. Well, they probably don’t think that even the inside of the fort is well done, but then again, there were some no-holds-barred commanders. Now is not the time to be shoving responsibility at each other.”
Finally, with a stunned look on his face, Dee bitterly criticized the other commander. Chuckling, I returned the nod of the head and turned to the fortress.
“I’m sorry to hear that you’re enjoying yourself, but I want to get this one over with and get back to the test operation as soon as possible. Shall we move on to the ballista’s test?”
At the moment I uttered these words, the Seat Village Knights and adventurers came up together on top of the fortress.
“Van-sama! Is it finished?”
Camsin was the first to ask. I nodded back and pointed to the ballista.
“I’m going to test fire the ballista, please get it ready.”
“Yes!”
“Leave it to the mechanical bow squad!”
Just as if it was his turn, Borra, Van’s super-strong mechanical archery unit, stepped forward. The Seat Village Knights were no strangers to ballistas. They quickly completed their preparations and turned to us.
“We are ready!”
I nodded at Borra’s reply and then looked in the direction of the fortress.
“I’m going to test fire! Oh, and Jiernetta’s people, be careful! Are you ready? Okay, here we go!”
