Fun Territory Defense of the Easy-Going Lord - Chapter 168
Mightiest Fort, Expansion
“… What a surprise.”
His Majesty muttered as he climbed to the top of the fort. While looking up at the tower in the center of the fort, he opens his mouth with a dumbfounded look on his face.
“I was watching from below, but to build a fort like this while under intensive attack by magic…if this had been the enemy, it would have been a terrible situation. After all, the fort even has a ballista made by the baron. It’s nothing short of a threat, isn’t it?”
His Majesty looked backward with a hint of a smile on his face. Count Ferdinand was the first to nod deeply.
“Yes, Your Majesty, I am glad that Baron Van is on our side. Thanks to this fort, the number of soldiers who would have died will be drastically reduced.”
Venturi and Panamera nodded at Ferdinand’s words. And Jalpa and some of the nobles only pulled their jaws back slightly, as if they were not amused.
I turned to His Majesty, looking at him with a sideways glance.
“Well then, Your Majesty. I’ll leave this…”
I vaguely said goodbye and was about to leave the battlefield. But His Majesty smiles and shows me the palm of one hand.
“Well, wait, Baron Van. There is no need to be in such a hurry. Even if you leave now, it will soon be night in the mountains. If so, why don’t you rest here in this fortress, which is guarded by the Knights, and return the next day?”
“… No, I think the battle will start right now…”
I would not like to be mixed up in the battle. I unintentionally rejected His Majesty’s proposal. And I thought it was rude, but I didn’t want to be in the war, so I had no choice.
I raised one hand and bailed, refusing the proposal with reserve. His Majesty, however, was completely unconcerned.
“Rest assured. No one is asking you to join the war. Well, if you don’t mind, I’d be happy if you could build a few more buildings behind the fort…”
“… Yes, sir. Thank you for your kindness, Your Majesty. Then, I will leave the fort and work on it as soon as possible.”
His Majesty gave me a request, not an order. With other nobles watching, it would be awkward to refuse the request. I had no choice but to bow my head and comply. His Majesty was overjoyed and said, “As expected of Baron Van! You have the kingdom’s best interests at heart!” And so on.
I have no choice… I really have no choice but to obey. However, I will do as I please with the fort’s expansion. My summer craft is the building of a fort.
As I arrived at the bottom of the fort with Dee, Camsin, the Knights of Seat and the adventurers in tow, a violent explosion rang out on the other side of the fort as if it were aimed at us, and the shock traveled through the ground.
Apparently, the battle had begun in earnest. For the time being, ballistas have been set up in the fortress, but with the scale of that fortress, it will not be so easy to settle the battle. The other side will probably have their own magicians, and there is a possibility that the ballista will be destroyed.
Well, it would have to be a very strong magician to destroy my ballista.
While secretly admiring myself, I check around the back side of the fort. The road I built, and the mountain slope lined with trees. It’s not very wide, but I guess that’s just a matter of ingenuity.
What kind of buildings should I build?
While I was thinking about this, Till and Arte came out of my carriage.
“Van-sama! Thank God you are safe!”
Till says this with a relieved look on his face, and Arte smiles and speaks while smiling.
“Till-san was very worried.”
Arte said something like that, and Till nodded repeatedly with teary eyes. I nodded, smiling at that, and looked at Arte.
“Arte wasn’t too worried?”
I asked mischievously, and Arte blinked her eyes and immediately blushed her cheeks red as she answered with a downcast look.
“Well, I was worried too. But I know Van-sama’s magic, so I’m sure he’ll be fine…”
She said this a little too quickly and nodded with a wry smile.
“Thanks to Dee, I guess. And Camsin, the Knights of Seat, Ortho-san and the others worked very hard. We were able to build the castle smoothly, so we got the best results.”
While answering, he checks the situation around him and opens his mouth again.
“Well then, I’m going to build a new addition on the back side of the fort for a bit. Everyone else… let’s take a quick break from carrying stuff around, okay?”
Looking at all the knights and adventurers who went up and down the stairs with Wood Block in their arms, I reconsidered that it would be impossible for them to work continuously. They are forced to do hard labor that would be considered “black business” work. I would have complained and insisted on my right to a siesta.
But Camsin shook his head from side to side with a powerful look in his eyes as he held the Wood Block in both hands.
“I can’t rest while Van-sama works.”
“No, no, everyone should probably be tired…hey, everyone?”
I turned to look at Ortho and the other adventurers, who were already standing with a Wood Block on their shoulders.
“What did you say? Oh, Wood Block, where do you want me to put it?”
“We’ll do anything! I’ll do whatever you want me to do!”
Ortho and Xsara held up the Wood Block with a wry smile on their faces. There seems to be an ulterior motive in this motivation, but since they have worked so hard this time, I will forgive them. If they want it, I’ll at least make them a Mithril weapon.
As I was thinking this, Borra of the super-strong mechanical bow unit of the Knights of Seat also looked at me with a Wood Block in his hands.
“Van-sama, the Knights are here to help you too! Anything you need, just ask!”
“Oh, everyone… so full of company spirit… it seems like everyone will survive no matter what kind of black company you work for.”
I joke, half happy and half embarrassed at everyone’s devotion to the line. Then he looked everyone back into their eyes and drew back his chin shallowly.
“Well, then, once again… everyone! Fort extension work! Please!”
