Fun Territory Defense of the Easy-Going Lord - Chapter 90
Preparing for Logistical Support
The Royal Army of Jiernetta invaded the fortified city of Scudetto and won a crushing victory with tactics never before seen by the Kingdom of Scuderia.
After the fall of Scudetto, the Royal Army of Jiernetta launched a pursuit of the defeated Scuderia border army and the Marquis de Fertio’s Knights.
However, something happened there and the pursuit was halted.
The defeated army is regrouping under the leadership of the Capital Knights, who have joined forces in a remote town.
And the Royal Army of Jiernetta was moving to repair Scudetto, which it had acquired, and to fortify its defenses.
Panamera, who appeared two days later than the Capital Knights, narrowed his eyes at the report.
“…We were defeated in the siege, lost in the field, and retreated. Without Baron Van’s help along the way, we could have been destroyed, couldn’t we?”
Jalpa sniffs at Panamera, who asserts so clearly.
However, since the king was present, Jalpa did not argue, but only clenched his fists quietly.
The king, with Jalpa by his side, asks Panamera, “…what is it that you want, Viscount?
“…Do you judge that Baron Van also helped the Viscount?”
Panamera smiled and opened his mouth.
“I am sure of it. There is no one in the country who could do such a thing except the baron.”
Jalpa looked at Panamera with a look of incomprehension. Panamera cowered his shoulders and opened his mouth again to the king.
“…As you have seen in person, Your Majesty, he has tremendous power in all aspects. And he is more cautious than anyone else, even though he understands this. Perhaps he is now retreating to his own territory to develop new weapons to counter the power of the Kingdom of Jiernetta.”
When I told him this, the king nodded lightly in agreement.
“Hmm, I see. You are a good Viscount; you know a lot since you have a five-fifths alliance with Baron Van. So, in the near future, we will have to move again to retake Scudetto, and your assistance in this regard…”
The king speaks with a forward-thinking tone, and Panamera again offers his opinion.
Jalpa watched with a complicated expression on his face as the two people exchanged their views.
Meanwhile, Van was enjoying his home for the first time in a while.
After lounging around in bed, he had a cup of richly fragrant tea brewed, and finished his late breakfast of freshly baked bread, steamed potatoes, and crispy bacon.
“That was delicious! Thanks for the treat!”
“Yes, thank you!”
Till smiles as she takes down the clean, empty dishes.
“Van-sama, how are you doing today?”
Camsin asks with a difficult look on his face, and Van snorts without losing his laid-back demeanor.
“Hmmm…I don’t know what to do. I did take part in the war, you know. I think I’ve done my duty as a noble, at least.”
Arte opened his mouth to Van, who was clearly unmotivated.
“…I saw the war in person for the first time, and I found it to be a horrible place where people died so easily. If possible, I don’t want Van-sama to go there anymore.”
Arte said this sadly, but everyone laughed in return, as Arte had clearly had the greatest success in the last war.
Surprisingly, Arte didn’t really care that he kicked out a bunch of soldiers or chopped off a wyvern’s head. He said that when he joined the war, he was prepared to die and take lives. The only thing he didn’t want was for someone close to him to die.
Van was a “samurai,” but Till and Camsin were the same way, so we gave up on the idea of common sense.
“…I’m sure my alliance partner, Panamera, will be there, too. I guess I’ll have to help in some way.”
After muttering this, Van let out a sigh and got up from his seat.
“Okay, let’s develop a new weapon. If we deliver it, it will be enough of an achievement for our assistance. Now that I know that my ballista, which Panamera-san has, has the power to take on wyverns. Now all I need is a weapon that is a little more responsive against airborne enemies, and I think we can make it work.”
Muttering this to himself, Van left the lord’s mansion.
“Hmm!? Van-sama!?”
“If you’re going, I’ll be ready soon!”
As Van walked through the village, all the knights and villagers who saw him shouted out in a brave voice. Meanwhile, the adventurers and others with battle experience nodded in agreement, smiling wryly.
“After an overwhelmingly victorious battle, it’s like that, isn’t it?”
“No, but we retreated from the last one, so it wasn’t a lost battle, was it?”
“Well, the last one was a losing battle, wasn’t it?” “It was a completely winning battle in terms of the content.
There was some such conversation going on here and there, and Van proceeded on his way, looking slightly annoyed.
Eventually, they reached the perimeter of Seat Village, and Dee, Arv, and Roe looked up when they noticed Van’s figure.
“Oh, Van-sama, have you recovered your energy?”
“Oh, you mean you’re ready to go?”
I’d like to take a little more time.
Van shook his head lightly from side to side as he heard the three different voices.
“I don’t think we can say for sure that we can win the war even if we join the war as it is now. So I’ll develop a weapon that will be decisive.”
When he replied, the three of them blinked their eyes, looked at each other, and turned to Van again.
“…Still new weapons?”
“…There’s more?”
“…Are you bullying me?”
Van smiled innocently at these replies.
“The higher the odds, the better, right?”
Van said, and Dee burst out laughing, while Arv and Roe returned a wry smile.
Waving goodbye to the three of them, Van and the others approach Bell and Rango as they unload the wagon.
“Welcome home!”
Belle, Rango, and the slaves who were now employees of the Chamber of Commerce turned to look at them.
“Oh, Van-sama!”
“It’s been a while.”
“Your first victory in your first battle, that’s a quintessence.”
The Belrango Chamber of Commerce came up to me with smiles on their faces, laughing and saying no.
“No, no, it’s a total loss. I just showed up for a minute and ran away.”
When I replied, Belle smiled implicitly and pulled her chin back.
“I guess so. The timing of the entry into the battle and the achievement of successfully withdrawing the Knights, the keystone of the defense… I think it was the best flow for Van-sama to beat the maximum results of the battle unscathed, don’t you think?”
To these words, Van cowered his shoulders and replied.
“It just happened. I don’t really think that far ahead….that being said, how was the shopping? Did you find anything?”
Bell and Rango looked at each other, then pulled out their luggage with dubious looks on their faces.
“This one, right? It certainly fits the characteristics you described, but I’m not sure if this is really the right one…”
As Rango said this and placed the item in front of Van, a question mark appeared over the heads of those around him.
The model looks like a triangle made out of wooden sticks. The triangles stand side by side, assembled at the top and bottom, to form a three-dimensional shape.
There was a long stick in the center of the triangle and it looked like a child’s toy.
Seeing it, nine-year-old Van’s eyes lit up.
“A true trebuchet! I knew it was there, something like this!”
Everyone’s eyes twinkled as Van, overjoyed, loaded the miniature rock thrower with pebbles and sent it flying.
Only Till and Camsin, however, smiled at the sight and looked at him with a hint of trust.
