I Was a Small Fish When I Reincarnated, but It Seems That I Can Become a Dragon, so I Will Do My Best - Extra Chaper 95
4-15. Devil Lord Atrak
A devil of the same color as the floor slowly emerged, moving with deliberate steps.
Is it accurate to say that it “emerged”?
The Devil, like a stone statue, tilted its head before spreading its wings wide.
Then, the color that had enveloped its body vanished, revealing its true form.
Its jet-black horns, hair nearly black but tinged with gray, were slightly long and nearly covered its eyes.
Its gaze was terribly malevolent, with dark circles under its eyes suggesting it hadn’t slept in days.
Perhaps it was a pattern, but because of it, his eyes had distinct contours, inciting fear at a glance.
With its head still tilted, the Devil rubbed its elderly, skeletal face with even more skeletal hands.
Its attire, predominantly black, appeared to be made entirely of Monster leather.
With a sheen that reflected the light entering from the window.
Though not particularly adorned, its wings sprouting from its back seemed to be unique, with apparently four joints.
When spread, they might be as wide as Abyss’s, attached to a white mass of flesh.
Alternating between me and Amariaz, the Devil smirked clumsily.
Nodding satisfactorily, it narrowed its eyes.
“… (Looks at Dacia)”
“The son of Reizen, Yuuzen. Yuuzen, this is Atrak-sama. A Devil lord.”
“… (Gazes and meets Yuuzen’s eyes)”
“Um, nice to meet you…”
“… (Closes its eyes and lightly bows)”
Its physique suggested extreme old age, and it seemed to lack much strength.
It seemed like it might be better to have a cane prepared.
But it stood firmly on its own two feet, with no hunch in its spine.
Despite appearances, it seemed to be still very much active.
However, Atrak remained entirely silent.
But somehow, one could vaguely understand what it was saying.
With expressive features, it seemed to convey its mood even without speaking.
To explain, Dacia interjected.
“Atrak-sama is a bit special. This body is a vessel, the original body is already dead. Only the mind has been transferred here, but its power remains intact. However, aging has progressed rapidly. It can move, but its senses and organs are gradually failing.”
“Is that why it can’t speak?”
“Yes. Currently, Atrak-sama only retains vision and hearing, taste, smell, and touch are lost. Its vocal cords are also impaired, and overall, its organs are in poor condition. Especially the magical circuit.”
Hearing Dacia’s brief explanation, Atrak chuckled wryly and spread its hands playfully.
It seemed to be managing to move its body through skill alone.
Though its power remained intact from its prime, it seemed doubtful whether it could wield it effectively in this body.
Once a pinnacle force among Devils, now it lamented being nothing more than a waiting corpse.
“… (Sighs)”
“Please refrain from being pessimistic, Atrak-sama. Everyone relies on your wisdom. We trust in you.”
“… (Wry smile)”
As Abyss comforted it, Atrak, looking troubled, patted her head while chuckling.
With its inability to speak, such gestures had increased.
Though lower-ranking Devils lamented being touched by a Devil of such high rank, those above them knew Atrak had no intention and paid it no mind.
Even Abyss, a Devil General*, allowed herself to be petted, knowing this. (archdevil is the alternative, which is better?)
I was a bit wary at first, but he seems surprisingly nice. I was scared because Abyss-san mentioned he’s like the progenitor of Devils or something.
But, I don’t know. He kinda reminds me a lot of Uchikage-Ojiichan.
He’s quite easy to get along with, surprisingly.
…
Atrak looked at Amariaz.
Approaching, it touched his head and pinched his cheeks.
“What…?”
“… (Looks puzzled)”
“I was curious too… I heard from Uchikage that there’s a child named Amariaz. Are you that child?”
“Yeah, but…”
Dacia cleared her throat and looked at Atrak.
They exchanged glances, and from Atrak’s expression, it was clear there was no issue.
If she said so, then there was no mistake.
“It seems Yuuzen has helped a little. I express my gratitude. Ideally, problems beyond what Oni can handle should have been dealt with by us…”
“It’s because Grandpa-Uchikage hadn’t communicated with the Devils. But I think it’s okay not to worry about it.”
“Yeah, that’s true. Let’s leave it at that.”
While it’s true that we also had some fault in this matter, Dacia quickly wrapped up the conversation knowing it would drag on if they delved into it.
More importantly, there were things that needed to be discussed.
For now, with the necessary personnel gathered for a complex conversation, they could proceed even in this location.
Taking a moment to breathe, Dacia switched her expression.
In that moment of seriousness, everyone else understood that this was the time to discuss that matter.
They all adjusted their expressions accordingly.
“Now, about the angels… First, Yuuzen and Amariaz need to understand.”
