Man, dried wallet is a real nightmare

5-34. Into the Depths of the Cave

“Oh, nice work, Amariaz.”

“Well, it’s nothing,” Amariaz replied nonchalantly, dismissing the ‘Air Pressure Swords’ he had deployed.

Seeing the angels defeated, the people who had been setting up bombs began to flee in panic. They shouted about a demon god, but as they weren’t attacking, it was best to ignore them.

Eventually, everyone had fled, leaving only the entrance to the Potodera Dungeon before them. Despite its reputation as a poisonous dungeon, it didn’t appear particularly sinister.

Inside, someone named Lize was supposedly sealed, but the danger didn’t seem that imminent—at least, not on the surface.

“Alright, magical tools, magical tools…”

I put on the mask given to me by Irza. It didn’t make breathing difficult, so I didn’t have to worry about getting out of breath. It fit snugly on my face, so it wouldn’t slip even with movement.

It’s amazing that this mask alone could block poison. It felt like a good purchase, and I was glad that Ouren knew Irza.

Amariaz quickly put on his mask and beckoned for us to hurry. I turned to see if the others were ready, but neither of them had put on masks. Ouren might not need one, but he also showed no intention of coming with us.

“Wait, aren’t you coming?”

“Sorry, but we’re leaving Lize to you.”

“Reinforcements might come, so Ouren and I will stay here to defend.”

“Oh, I see…”

Although we had defeated all the angels, there was still a chance of more arriving. While humans were unlikely to venture into a poisonous dungeon, it was wise to stay cautious. Our defense was crucial, as it allowed us to proceed without worry.

So, we headed into the dungeon. I was the only one who could break the seal, and I had the necessary magic power. Now was the time to free Lize.

Facing the Potodera Dungeon, I started walking towards it. Amariaz and I entered, descending a gentle slope, relying on the light of a lantern to navigate quickly through the cave.

As expected, there were many poison-using monsters. They were small and well-camouflaged, making them hard to spot, but our detection was flawless.

Amariaz’s ‘Spatial Awareness’ detected most of the monsters, and he neutralized them with needle-like ‘Air Pressure Swords’ before they could use their poison. However, the cave-dwelling monsters excelled at hiding.

Those that Amariaz’s skills couldn’t detect, I pointed out, and he took care of them.

Walking along, I began to sense something strange. A spark of static electricity startled me with its sudden noise in the darkness.

“That scared me…”

“It’s just static electricity.”

“But why is there static electricity here?”

“Ah, right. Because of Lize.”

This brief exchange was our first conversation in the cave. Suddenly, Amariaz stopped, frowning in thought.

“You figured something out, right?”

“Yeah. The angels were weak and lacked knowledge about skills. It’s impossible for angels not to know about my ‘Air Pressure Swords,’ yet they didn’t.”

“If they knew, they could have countered. You deliberately slowed it down to test their knowledge, right?”

“Exactly.”

From my perspective, the speed of the ‘Air Pressure Sword’ was noticeably slow. Knowing how fast it usually was, it was clear Amariaz was testing something.

“What did you figure out?”

As I asked, Amariaz used an ‘Air Pressure Sword’ to skewer a crab-like monster. It let out a small sound and fell silent as he returned his gaze to me.

“Based on what Ashera told us, the angels have likely conducted experiments to grant pseudo-skills to hundreds, thousands, or possibly even more humans.”

This was a real possibility. The experiments had been ongoing for at least a century, and their fruition was a pressing concern. It meant we had to be even more cautious on our journey.

This was extremely troubling.

But there was something else that Amarias was worried about more than that.

It was about the drug experiments that had been conducted on Ashera.

“Pseudo-skills can be acquired through drug ingestion.”
