8-16.Side -Sreiz- An expected attack

Garott Castle, with its grand architecture and impeccable gardens, had now become the last refuge for the kingdom’s people. The massive gates and outer walls, once admired for their beauty, now served as the final line of defense. Protected by powerful barriers, the castle stood resilient, but the pressure from the angelic attackers was mounting.

The first division of Garott’s knights, divided into specialized roles, took up their positions outside the castle. Their mission: defend the people while Reizen and the others engaged the enemy. The knights were a formidable force, each category serving a crucial function in the defense of the kingdom.

At the frontline stood the Heavy Armor Knights, clad in thick armor and wielding either massive hammers or swords. With large shields strapped to their arms, they held their ground without faltering. Their role was simple: maintain the front lines and prevent any enemy from advancing. These knights knew no retreat—only forward. Behind them, the Medium Armor Knights were ready to strike, their lighter gear allowing for rapid movement. They were equipped with various weapons, such as spears and long swords, and excelled in disrupting the enemy’s formation through quick, coordinated attacks.

Finally, at the rear stood the Mage Knights, experts in long-range magical combat. These elite mages could sustain powerful spells over extended periods, their precision and destructive force unmatched. A single attack from one could eliminate an enemy with ease, making them vital to the kingdom’s defense strategy.

The defensive formation was flawless, but there was a lingering fear among the knights and their commander, Sreiz. Despite the castle’s protective barrier, he knew it couldn’t hold forever. Though he trusted Reizen and the others, the relentless assault by the angels had taken its toll. The barrier had been weakening for some time, and the strain on the kingdom’s resources was becoming evident. Magic, after all, was not infinite.

“Prepare the defense barrier,” Sreiz commanded, his voice calm but urgent.

One of the knights looked puzzled. “But Sreiz-sama, the enemy has not yet arrived.”

“They will come,” Sreiz muttered grimly, his eyes scanning the horizon.

And then it happened—a flash of white in the sky, rapidly approaching.

The Heavy Armor Knights reacted instinctively, casting their defensive magic without waiting for orders.

“Area Shield!” they shouted in unison.

Multiple layers of protective barriers formed, overlapping to create an impenetrable wall. The enemy would find it difficult to break through such a defense. Or so they thought.

Suddenly, from behind the advancing angel, a torrent of water manifested, taking the shape of a massive hand. It was an impressive sight—an enormous fist of water, four meters in diameter, moving slowly at first, then accelerating rapidly toward the shield.

CRASH!

The water fist collided with the Area Shield, shattering it completely. The sound of breaking glass echoed across the battlefield, as the protective barrier turned into glittering shards, raining down on the knights. Thankfully, their armor protected them from the debris, but the sight of their strongest defense crumbling so easily filled them with dread.

The angel had obliterated their defenses in one strike.

Their defensive magic was by no means weak.

One layer could withstand a battering ram, two layers could resist an explosion, and three layers could endure artillery fire.

If they had used a skill, one layer might have been enough to withstand artillery fire, but instead, they compensated with numbers.

However, skills were on a different level of expertise.

The water was heavy, massive, and carried tens of times the mass and weight of a cannonball.

With a regular magic barrier… it wouldn’t even serve as a speed bump!

“Magic Knights…! Begin the attack!”

Those with staffs all raised their hands toward the angel.

Then, each unleashed the magic they excelled in to launch an attack.

Like a shower of meteors, the colorful spells flew toward the angel.

Squinting slightly against the brightness, the angel brought the ‘Water Hand’ it had created to its front.

Splash! Splash! Splash!

All the magic disappeared as it entered the water.

There had been fire and lightning magic among them, but the mass of water was so vast that they were entirely ineffective.

“…Did it block it?”

“It… it had no effect at all! Sreiz-sama, at this rate…!”

“It blocked it. Didn’t you see?”

“Th-that is…?”

“The fact that it blocked means that attack was a threat to it. If we can deal with that water mass, we can attack.”

Sreiz was certain.

They had the means to defeat the angel themselves.

That realization was huge, confirmed by the sequence of events they had just witnessed.

Now, all that remained was figuring out how to land an attack.

But before that, a crisis was approaching the First Knight Order.

“…This is bad…!”

The mass of water slowly began to rise.

The fist-shaped water transformed into an open hand.

Everyone standing on the front line understood what that meant.

It was going to slam that down into the ground.

If that happened… their forces would be drastically reduced in an instant.

“Everyone, deploy defensive magic! Those without, prepare to attack! Magic Knights, abandon firepower and prepare the fastest spells!”

“Understood!!”

‘Area Shield’!

‘Magic Up’!

Shields were deployed, glowing blue.

‘Magic Up’ was a support spell that increased the abilities of all deployed magic to some extent.

This made the ‘Area Shield’ stronger than before.

But whether it would withstand the attack was still uncertain.

With gravity aiding the descent, the power of the water was now several times stronger.

And then… the massive water mass came crashing down.

“‘Slowly’!”

In the next moment, the water’s movement slowed.

The angel, irritated, turned toward the direction of the voice.

“Just one of you?”

“I won’t let you! Sreiz!!”

“I know!”

Sreiz swiftly formed his hand into the shape of a pistol, aiming it at the angel.

This magic was a bit special.

Given the distance… he raised only his index finger and fired.

“‘Shock,’ Sniper.”
