8-19. Mission Success

The flying rock was a repeated attack Amariaz had endured multiple times.
That’s why I immediately gave a warning.

“Break it down!!”
“Roger!”

I quickly stepped forward and tightened my fist.
If I could destroy everything in one hit, it wouldn’t be too difficult!

“‘Explod??’!?”

Clang.
Another rock flying toward us lightly bumped into the one in front of me.

BOOM!!
A tremendous force exploded, and it felt like I’d been hit by the shockwave of a close-range blast.

“Whaaa!?”
“Yuuzen-kun!”

What the heck was that power!?
Hold on, something’s not right here!

When I looked at the point of impact, the ground had swelled up, and small craters had formed deep into the earth.
The flying clumps of dirt had gouged into the ground, and the concentrated areas had peeled back the surface.
This was the true power of the skill.

Kyurii’s skill wasn’t a one-time move like the earlier ‘Roar Cannon.’
Depending on how it’s used, it can unleash its maximum attack power multiple times.

But still… she’s way too good at using it!
Hitting it with another shock before it’s destroyed…!
There’s no way to block that!

“Dwoah!?”
“Whoa… Careful, Yuuzen. The opponent specializes in mid-range skills. Close the gap.”
“I know, but still…!”

My dad caught me as I was sent flying and gave me advice, but if I could do that, I wouldn’t be struggling so much!
That kind of move feels like cheating—what am I supposed to do!?

“Hmph, I’ve been asleep for a long time, but it seems I haven’t gotten rusty!”
“Huh? What do you mean?”
“In bare-knuckle fighting, I’m stronger than Ouren-aniki, you know?”
“That’s a lie!”
“Harsh. Amariaz! Keep them in check!”
“Got it!”
“Alright, Yuuzen, let’s go!”
“Whoa!?”

Suddenly, a strong hand smacked my back.
Caught up in the momentum, I started running alongside him, chasing after my dad’s back.
What’s his plan…?

“……”

Without a word, Kyurii raised her hand and sent more dirt projectiles flying our way.
Of course, before they could be destroyed, she made them collide with other chunks of dirt, forcibly breaking them apart and launching attacks.
Amariaz was managing to deal with some of the debris using his ‘Air Pressure Sword,’ but it seemed impossible to handle them all.

That’s when Dad stepped forward.
‘Delayed Shock’ reinforced attack, powered up dozens of times, came straight at him.

“Hmph!”

With a single swing of his arm, Dad neutralized all of it.
The attack should’ve landed solidly, but he didn’t even budge.

“Huh!?”

For the first time, Kyurii’s face showed shock.
Seeing this, Reizen grinned.

“Hahaha! Have you heard of resistance? It’s an ability separate from skills! I don’t back down from mere ‘shock’!”

He took another step forward.
Kyurii repeated the same attack several times, but it had no effect on Reizen.
Though the ground around him was becoming more and more battered… that was something to fix later, so he paid it no mind.

However, Kyurii was still flying.
If things stayed this way, the distance wouldn’t close, and we’d keep getting attacked without being able to land a hit.
Even if we blocked all the attacks perfectly, it was meaningless if we couldn’t strike back.

“It’s almost time,” Reizen said.
“Just a little longer,” I replied.

ZAP!
Something struck Kyurii’s wings.
When I turned around in a hurry, a large, semi-transparent barrier had formed behind her.

“A barrier!”
“Exactly! ‘Pneumatic Barrier’!”

I still had plenty of magic left, so I immediately created four more ‘Pneumatic Barriers.’
They surrounded Kyurii and us, completely cutting off her escape.
She had only been retreating, giving me time to set up the ‘Pneumatic Barrier.’
Once her body touched the barrier, I shaped it into a box around her… Now, she should have no way to escape.

“Perfect size, Yuuzen!”
“The ceiling’s a bit high, though!”
“A barrier like this…!”

BOOM! The ground bulged beneath her.
Kyurii raised her hand, and the earth shot up, slamming into the barrier.
Dirt and debris of all sizes collided with tremendous force, but not a single scratch appeared on the barrier.

I’d poured a significant amount of magic into this ‘Pneumatic Barrier‘ specifically to trap Kyurii.
It wouldn’t break so easily.

Now, she couldn’t fly freely anymore.
Her range of movement was severely limited.
Though there were still areas we couldn’t reach, Amariaz’s long-range attack skills would allow us to control her movements.

For Kyurii, this development was far from ideal.
Yet… she smiled.

“…?”
“You don’t understand… Soon, it will fall…”

Thud.
Just as Kyurii predicted, something fell.
A dull, heavy sound echoed.

It was clear that whatever had fallen had come down with considerable force, as we could hear it even through the barrier.
Though I didn’t want to take my eyes off Kyurii, I instinctively turned to look.

“…!! Abyss-san!?”

The sight of the white mass of flesh revealed that it was him.
