9-11 Flesh vs. Skill
“Uoraaahhh!!”
“Teiyaaahhh!!”
Gah… DOOOOM!!
A blast of ice skill struck the white mass of flesh, shattering into countless fragments with an immense shockwave. The white mass was knocked back to the ground, but quickly retracted, merging back into Abyss’s body.
With a swift motion of her arm, Abyss transformed it into a weapon, a sharp blade extending from her arm. Abyss’s body-shifting abilities were limitless, as long as she had knowledge of the shape, she could replicate nearly anything.
After shaping her arm into a sword, she swung it in a wide arc. Mekonie smirked, thinking there was no way such a simple attack would land. But suddenly, Abyss’s arm stretched like rubber, rapidly closing the distance.
“?!”
“Missed…”
A quick slash nicked Mekonie’s jaw, leaving a thin cut. She touched the wound, healing it instantly, and conjured a ball of ice in her hand.
“Ice Shock!”
“Shock this, shock that, shock whatever—it’s always the same trick with you!”
As the ice sphere was hurled, it exploded into tiny fragments aimed at Abyss. She easily dodged, but as they hit the ground, the shards violently gouged the floor. If that had hit her directly, it could have been disastrous.
“It’s that powerful, you know!”
“One-trick pony!”
“Shut up, monster!”
“Look who’s talking!”
Abyss stretched her fingers, attacking Mekonie from afar. Mekonie spread her hands and punched the air, sending a DOOM of shockwaves rippling through the air. However, Abyss had stretched her fingers so thin that the shockwave barely slowed them, slipping through and closing in.
“Take this!”
Abyss morphed her fingers into barbed spikes, extending them wildly. Although the aim was erratic, the sheer volume was enough to scratch and cut Mekonie’s body.
The air was filled with spikes, all a part of Abyss.
“Weapon Shock!”
Mekonie slammed the hilt of her weapon into her palm. A massive shockwave erupted, blowing away all the spikes.
“Perfect Single-Form Adjustment!”
“Again?!”
Mekonie immediately shut her eyes, resisting the skill. As long as she avoided eye contact, she wouldn’t fall under its control.
“Catch ya~!”
“Wha—?!”
Abyss had somehow closed the distance without her noticing and delivered a hand chop to her shoulder.
Shwoom… THUD!!
With just that one chop, Mekonie was slammed into the ground with tremendous force, creating a dent in the earth and cracking the rocks.
“Ugh…! Damn you…! How can you be so heavy?!”
Brushing off dirt and rocks as she rose, Mekonie kept her eyes closed and used her skills to locate Abyss. To her surprise, there were two of them. At some point, Abyss had created a clone. Relying on sight had backfired.
The split Abyss quickly rejoined into one, tilting her head with a smug look.
“This power from my big brother—it can’t be beaten by mere skills!”
“You lost to me once before.”
“Nu uh! I don’t remember that!”
Clenching her fist, Abyss morphed one arm into a scythe and swiftly charged forward. Mekonie tried to retreat, but something held her leg in place. Glancing down, she saw a white mass of flesh rising from the ground, gripping her ankle tightly.
“!!”
“I can make as many clones as I want… gotcha!!”
Abyss swung her scythe down, landing a direct hit on Mekonie and using her full body weight to crush her. With a WHAM, a crater formed on the ground, burying Mekonie deep within.
Thud…!!
Abyss drove her even deeper, delivering a finishing blow. Unlike the others, Abyss’s body was unique. Tekeris and Iubora could also shape-shift like Abyss, but they lacked the same density. They could alter their forms without adding weight, keeping their original human mass.
Abyss, however, carried the full weight of her form at all times. By holding the mass within, she amplified her striking power, creating a triple-layered crater. Mekonie lay buried beneath it, and it seemed unlikely he’d be able to climb out.
Abyss stepped back, leaving a decoy behind. Her opponent was an Archangel, after all—there was always a chance she’d rise again, so she stayed on guard.
“…”
But as time passed with no sign of movement, Abyss finally allowed herself to relax.
“Haaah…”
“Hey, Abyss!”
“Oh, Ouren! Houen, too.”
Abyss waved back at them. She had forgotten it during the battle, but taking a skill hit directly had indeed left her in pain. Grimacing as the delayed ache returned, she waited for the two to approach.
“Yo, what’s up?”
“Just thinking how strong skill-users are.”
“Want me to heal you? ‘Great Heal.’”
“Oh, thanks!”
“No problem. So, she’s still alive—what’re you gonna do?”
“Huh?”
From deep underground, Mekonie emerged, shoving aside the dirt. She clutched a variety of weapons, most of them damaged, but she seemed unbothered as she struck the ground with a fierce blow.
“Death Devourer!”
