I Was a Small Fish When I Reincarnated, but It Seems That I Can Become a Dragon, so I Will Do My Best - Extra Chapter 8
1-8. Terrifying Skill
*
As I returned with the massive fish on my shoulders alongside Uchikage-Ojichan, a group of oni quickly gathered around us. Once they realized it was Acid Gill, the oni who had been working in the fields were delighted.
Apparently, this fish, while not tasty for consumption, was highly valued as fertilizer. Even though it wasn’t good for eating, it had other uses. They immediately began the process of dismantling it on the spot. Since they intended to use all of its organs as fertilizer, they placed them in a large container and carried them away.
One of the oni who had given the instructions approached us. This oni oversaw the fields and rice paddies in this area. I had met him a few times before, so I knew him well.
“Well, Uchikage-sama, you certainly caught a big one.”
“It was just luck. Please take the intestine to the pharmacist.”
“Of course. We’ll handle the rest here. Uchikage-sama, do you have any plans for the rest of the day?”
“I’m heading to Karna’s place. Yuuzen is going there as well.”
“I see. Oh, you went fishing, didn’t you? How was this year’s treasure fish?”
“They were quite plump. But we had to let them go because this one attacked us.”
“Oh, I see. Well, those fish are something. But with how big they’ve grown, they must have eaten plenty of treasure fish. It seems like another bountiful year for fishing.”
“Let’s hope so.”
After the two of them had talked for a while, Uchikage-Ojichan started walking again. I followed to make sure I wasn’t left behind.
From their conversation, it seemed like we were going to visit my mother. She was harvesting vegetables in the fields today. That meant we had to head to a different location, as the rice paddies and fields were a bit apart.
While walking, I suddenly recalled the explosion from earlier. It had occurred unexpectedly. It made me fear that it might explode again at any moment.
Thinking about it made me feel really scared. I stopped and looked at my small hands. Uchikage-Ojichan realized that the footsteps had stopped and turned to look at me.
“Is something the matter, Yuuzen?”
“Uchikage-Ojichan, earlier… that thing?”
“You men, Bakukken?” (Explosive Fist)
“Huh? What’s that?”
“That’s the name of the explosion technique Yuuzen used suddenly. As the name suggests, it explodes when you throw a punch.”
“It has a name like that…”
**
Typically, this kind of magic could be used at will, but only a few people had the ability to handle Lost Skills, which were lost magical skills. The Explosive Fist that Yuuzen had used was one such magic. It wasn’t very difficult to control, but I didn’t understand why it had activated so suddenly.
The name of the Explosive Fist and the use of an unfamiliar magic were things Yuuzen shouldn’t have known. Moreover, the killing power of that magic was extremely high. It had peeled off Acid Gill’s scales, which were as hard as stones.
If used against a regular human… it wasn’t hard to imagine the outcome.
So I needed to ensure that it wouldn’t activate suddenly. To prevent that, Yuuzen needed to learn how to control it. However, I was worried about whether it was appropriate to teach such a dangerous ability to such a young child.
If I taught Yuuzen, they would become capable of handling it. I was concerned about allowing such a young child to freely use a magic with such a high lethality. It might lead in an undesirable direction.
Perhaps it was better not to teach them, and instead, let Yuuzen understand the danger of the magic in their own time. I was troubled by this difficult decision.
“…Mmm…”
“Well… But I would like you to teach me how to use it. I don’t want to be blown away suddenly, and I don’t want to hurt anyone with it…”
“Oh, did Yuuzen already realize that you are different from others? When you fell from the bridge with the squirrel…”
“I did…”
“I see. Well, in that case, it’s easy to explain.”
I agreed and nodded twice. After thinking for a moment, I looked around for a suitable place for special training.
It seemed that I had been mistaken. Yuuzen was not unaware of his difference from others. This was a significant discovery, as it meant I could teach him much more.
“Yuuzen, how old are you this year?”
“I’m seven this year.”
“In that case, let’s talk to Karna. Whatever we do, we need your mother’s approval. And Yuuzen, you must tell her about that. I wish you were a bit older when I taught you, but if you want to learn it earlier, that’s fine.”

Uchikage-Ojichan placed his hand on my head. He didn’t pet me but just lightly patted my head. He then crouched down to be at eye level with me.
“Very well. If Karna grants permission, I will teach Yuuzen how to control the skill.”
