I Was a Small Fish When I Reincarnated, but It Seems That I Can Become a Dragon, so I Will Do My Best - Extra Chapter 9
1-9. To Karna’s Place
Uchikage-Ojichan and I immediately made our way to where my mother was. It was a bit of a distance, but it didn’t tire me.
There were several large fields there, each divided by narrow paths into rectangular shapes. Many oni were diligently working on the harvest, but I couldn’t find my mother among them. I looked around, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Uchikage-Ojichan was doing the same thing, searching while speaking to the other oni. It turned out my mother was helping store the harvested crops in the barn.
“I see. Got it. How is Karna doing her work?”
“Physical labor is still a no-go compared to us, but she’s entrusted with more delicate tasks due to her gentler strength. She doesn’t crush the vegetables, and she’s good with handling horses. We appreciate her help.”
“Seems there’s no problem then. Is the barn over there?”
“Yes, it is. We plan to take the crops to the town below tomorrow.”
“You’re having a hard time even though it’s cold. Well then, I’ll continue to ask.”
“Understood!”
Uchikage-Ojichan offered words of encouragement to the oni who spoke in a familiar dialect. People who spoke like that seemed a bit difficult to approach, but I knew they were good people. They might be hard to talk to, but…
Once we had the location, we moved again. The barn used for storing the crops was quite large, with three buildings. There were apparently a few more barns in other locations, but I wasn’t very familiar with this area.
Among the massive influx of crops, I spotted my mother taking care of the horses. She hadn’t noticed us yet, but I immediately ran up to her.
“I’m back!”
“Whoa! Yuuzen, you’re back already?”
“Yeah! Uchikage-Ojichan has something to talk to you about!”
“Uchikage-Ojichan?”
My mother looked up and noticed Uchikage-Ojichan. The conversation had already been decided, but this wasn’t the right place for it. I realized this wasn’t something to be discussed openly, so I nodded.
“Alright. Hey, everyone! Can I take a break for a bit?”
“Eeeh~ Seriously?! We’re in a bind! Wait, Uchikage-sama!!? My my, what brings you here?!”
A somewhat older female oni appeared from the barn and ran over to us, clearly surprised to see Uchikage-Ojichan. He was quite popular, after all.
“Karna, I need a moment. May we borrow her for a while?”
“I see. Is this going to take long?”
“Just a little while. Sorry for intruding.”
“Can’t say no to the lord’s request, can we? Alright, go ahead, Karna-san.”
“Sorry. I’ll be back when the discussion is over.”
“Please do!”
So saying, the female oni from the barn immediately looked around. When she found a young man who seemed to be free, she walked over to him.
“Agito! Can you take care of the horses!”
“Huh?! Mom, that’s not fair! I was kicked by a horse just yesterday!! Where’s Karna-san?!”
“She has something urgent. So hurry up and do it!”
“Aww man~ Seriously?!”
With a cry of despair, Agito, the young oni, reluctantly went to fetch the tools to take care of the horses. This kind of work required someone who could control their strength, so the old lady had entrusted it to him.
Watching this exchange, I chuckled softly. My mother seemed apologetic, but Uchikage-Ojichan was scratching his head in a somewhat bewildered manner.
“I should be the one doing this work, but… well.”
“Anyway, can I also hear about the discussion?”
“It’s about you, so of course.”
“Eh.”
~~~
My mother looked at me with a surprised expression and immediately crouched down, cupping her cheeks with both hands. There was the scent of earth.
“Oh, really?”
“Yup, it’s all true.”
“That was indeed the Explosive Fist. However, Yuuzen seems to have activated it unconsciously. I thought about it a lot, but Yuuzen already knows that he’s different from others. So, I want to teach Yuuzen how to use this skill.”
“But, at this era…”
“That’s right. Skills are obsolete. All that remains is magic and swordsmanship.”
I didn’t understand the details of the conversation, so I just tilted my head in confusion. My mother, however, seemed to understand it strangely well. But she was also concerned about the fact that skills were obsolete.
“If skills are obsolete, what are you going to do?”
“First, I’d like to get permission. I want to teach Yuuzen how to use the skill. Would that be okay?”
“That’s fine. Currently, you’re the only one among us who has a skill. Besides, Yuuzen unconsciously activated the Explosive Fist, right? So, it’s even more important for him to learn how to control it.”
“Understood. Yuuzen, from tomorrow, we’ll start learning the skill.”
“Yes!”
“Now, back to the discussion… What are you planning?”
***
In this world, skills no longer exist. Only those who have lived for over four hundred years can use them. The current oni, humans, and most other races can’t even manifest skills. That’s the Lost Skill, a world where skills have disappeared.
So Karna was puzzled. Probably now, there weren’t even any stats. It was a strange story that the Yuuzen born after “that something” had confronted the “something” could manifest the Explosive Fist. However, Uchikagewas convinced of something.
“Yuuzen is a descendant of the one who was summoned from another world. Most likely, that “something” that confronted us didn’t consider this possibility.”
“So…?”
“Yuuzen is inheriting that person’s skills from the other world. There’s no way they’re not. Yuuzen is just different from the people in this world.”
Besides, Yuuzen actually used the Explosive Fist. That was enough evidence to be confident.
“So, let’s start by talking about skills.”
