It has been about a month since Foranada started to make its moves on the public stage. The buzz and commotion in society have subsided, allowing for a more peaceful and settled life. During this time, I, Caroline, decided to visit the town below the castle after such a long time. Over the past few months, I had been busy preparing for my engagement with the Second Prince, so it truly was a rare occasion.

My elder brother and Orca were occupied with work, while Nina had taken on adventurer requests. Therefore, this outing was a solo excursion for me.

It’s a bit disappointing not having them with me, but even so, I can’t help but feel excited for this much-needed break. I wonder how Dan-san, Tala-chan, and Millia-chan are doing.

As soon as I arrived at the usual plaza, I spotted them without any trouble. It seemed they also noticed me, waving their hands and approaching me with smiles.

“Long time no see, Caron-chan!”

“Hey there, long time no see!”

“Well, well, it’s been a while!”

“Yes, it’s been a while. Everyone.”

Seeing their unchanged brightness, a smile naturally formed on my face. Although I wasn’t particularly worried, it was reassuring to see them in good spirits.

After exchanging greetings, Millia-chan and Tala-chan asked with serious expressions.

“Things seemed quite tough, but are you alright now?”

“We were worried.”

It was only natural for them to have heard about the big incident involving the royal palace. Although I felt a bit embarrassed, I responded with a smile to ensure they wouldn’t have any further concerns.

“I’m perfectly fine. Thanks to my elder brother and the others, I can spend each day with energy and peace of mind. Thank you for your concern.”

“I see. Well, that’s a relief!”

“Good to know you’re feeling better.”

“…Ah.”

It seemed like they understood that I genuinely meant those words, as Millia-chan and Tala-chan showed a relieved expression. In addition, Dan-san let out a sigh of relief.

“Oh, Dan-san, you were also worried. Thank you!”

“N-no, it’s not like it was a big deal or anything.”

While expressing my gratitude to them like the others, for some reason, Dan-san turned bright red and averted his gaze. I wondered what was going on.

Perplexed, I tilted my head, but the answer to that question remained elusive. Millia-chan and Tala-chan seemed to know something since they looked disappointed, but they didn’t disclose anything. It’s quite puzzling.

“Um, more importantly, there’s something I want to ask you, Caron!”

As the atmosphere started to feel a bit awkward, Dan-san, who couldn’t sit still, raised his voice.

Since changing the topic seemed like a good idea, I tilted my head in response.

“Something you want to ask me?”

“Well, we want you to teach us magic.”

It was Millia-chan who answered.

However, that answer didn’t dispel my doubts.

“Why me, though? Don’t Dan-san and the others attend the elementary school? They should be learning the basics of magic there, right? There’s no need for me to teach you at this point…”

That’s right. Except for Tala-chan, both of them have been attending the elementary school since last spring. Besides the fundamental subjects, they should also be learning the basics of magic there. It seems unnecessary for them to ask me for instruction now…

It seemed that Dan-san anticipated my question and promptly provided an answer.

“The magic we learn at school and the magic you guys use… they seem different somehow. We want to learn the kind of magic that you and Zex use.”

Ah, I see.

Upon hearing his words, I understood.

Indeed, the magic we handle is more advanced than what is generally taught. It’s natural since it’s directly taught by my older brother. Having witnessed our magic a few times, they must have noticed the difference and felt curious about it.

Hmm, what should I do?

Technically, spreading knowledge about magic is permitted. My older brother expressed his desire to make the importance of things other than basic knowledge, like “Body Enhancement” at two to three times the normal level or “Design Architecture,” part of common education.

However, I don’t have any teaching experience, and I’m still in the process of training myself. Can I really teach them properly?

Additionally, there’s one concern I have.

“What is it that you want to achieve by learning the kind of magic we use?”

The purpose behind wanting to learn magic, that’s crucial.

My older brother has always said that having more options isn’t always a good thing. It’s true that expanding the possibilities for the future is important, but it also means that unnecessary choices can become mixed in.

What I mean to say is, I’m worried that once Dan-san and the others acquire magic abilities superior to others, they might recklessly wield that power around them. Of course, I know that they are not the kind of people who would harm others for their own enjoyment, but the future is never absolute.

Well, if I bring up that concern, I wouldn’t be able to teach magic to anyone. Therefore, I posed the previous question.

This is also something my older brother often says: “Strong willpower and a sworn goal become a source of strength to resist any temptation.” If they have a firm conviction, they won’t waver no matter what, according to my older brother.

Therefore, once I receive a satisfactory answer, I intend to teach magic to Dan-san and the others.

It seems they sensed the seriousness of my question from my expression, and both of them swallowed hard before hesitating for a moment and then speaking up.

“I… I want to learn powerful magic to protect them! I was attacked by thugs in the past. Back then, Zex and Caron helped me, but deep down, I felt frustrated. Of course, I’m grateful to you guys, but I couldn’t forgive myself for not being able to do anything more. That’s why I want to become stronger!”

“I… I feel the same. I don’t want to just cry while Dan-kun is lying there. That’s why I want to learn the magic that Caron-chan and the others use!”

I see…

Dan-san and Milia-chan’s determination feels genuine. I’m not indifferent enough to feel nothing from their words. I can fully empathize with their desire to protect someone important.

However, is that enough? A mere will to protect may not be sufficient. It could lead to shortcomings…

“You’re overthinking it.”

“Eek!”

Just as I was contemplating the conclusion, someone placed their hand on my head. Startled by the unexpected act, I let out a surprised voice.

However, I’m not flustered. Because there are not many who can catch me off guard like this… or so I thought.

I turn around to face the person behind me and raise my voice in protest.

“Brother, please refrain from approaching me so stealthily!”

It was my older brother who was standing there, although his appearance was disguised using “Mimicry.” But there is no mistaking his identity. He must have finished his work quickly.

He shrugs his shoulders nonchalantly, showing no remorse. “Sorry, sorry,” he says.

Oh, come on! While I find that mischievous side of yours quite adorable, I also want you to consider the strain on my heart.

Nevertheless, if I keep being angry, we won’t make any progress. Let’s switch gears.

I wait for the opportune moment when my brother finishes greeting the others and then ask him.

“So, Brother, what do you mean by ‘You’re overthinking it’?”

“You’re making it more complicated than it needs to be. Just go ahead and teach them without overthinking it. It’s okay to teach them more freely.”

“Huh?”

Taken aback by his unexpected words, I’m left speechless.

Seeing my reaction, my brother smiles wryly.

“I said it’s knowledge that I permitted you to teach, so spread it freely. I took that into consideration when giving my permission. Well, it’s okay to choose who you teach, but there shouldn’t be any problem with Dan and the others, right?”

Understanding his explanation, I feel relieved.

Now that I think about it, my brother wouldn’t have given permission without considering what would happen after he taught them. It was an oversight on my part.

“So, Caron will teach them. All three of them.”

“Huh? Even Tali?”

Tara, who was left out just a moment ago, widens her eyes in surprise.

My brother nods as if it’s only natural.

“Well, she’ll be begging to be taught by next year anyway. It’s just a difference of a year or so.”

“Aw, isn’t it unfair that Tara gets special treatment?”

“When we start attending the academy, we’ll be studying on our own for a year. It won’t be that different,” Dan voices his complaint, but my brother calmly dismisses it.

“Well, I guess it’s just how it is.”

“That’s right.”

Although Dan raises his voice in protest, my brother easily refutes his argument.

Once the three of them are satisfied, my brother whispers something to them.

Then, Dan, Millia, and Tara line up side by side.

Now, what are they up to?

“Thank you, Teacher Caron!” they simultaneously bow their heads.

Wha-what is happening all of a sudden!?

I’m bewildered by their sudden action.

However, at the same time, I can’t deny that I feel somewhat pleased. The title of Teacher Caron carries a certain charm to it.

“W-Well, I suppose there’s no helping it. I can only take on the magic lessons when I have time.”

“Thank you, Teacher Caron!”

As expected of my brother. He understands my nature well and gives me this advice.

While I feel a bit manipulated and a little frustrated, it’s a good thing that my friends will improve their abilities. I won’t dwell on it too much.

And so, I ended up becoming a regular magic instructor. Don’t worry, I won’t be as strict as my brother.
