I Was Reincarnated As The Older Brother Of A Villainess Destined to Die, So I Want To Change The Future By Raising My Younger Sister With My Own Hands. I Am The Strongest In The World, But My Little Sister Must Be The Cutest In The World - Volume 4 Chapter 1.4
Due to the total number of students, the class allocation in the academy follows a special system. First, the students are divided into four main classes, namely A, B, C, and D, based on their academic performance. Then, each main class is further subdivided to accommodate fifty students per class.
The names of the sub-classes are designated as A1, A2, A3, and so on. However, unlike the main classes, the allocation for classes other than A1 is completely randomized.
Additionally, each main class is assigned to a different school building, with the facilities becoming more luxurious as you get closer to class A.
Since this system was originally established to counter the meritocracy of the empire, the academic performance standards are quite strict. Attempts to deceive based on social status are not tolerated. Occasionally, foolish nobles who try to intimidate the teachers may appear, but they end up facing disciplinary action.
Given this system, it is natural that there is a class rotation system in place. There are various methods for this, but let’s skip discussing them for now.
The class allocation immediately after the entrance ceremony is determined by a pre-admission test conducted beforehand.
The test consists of a written exam and a practical exam, roughly speaking.
The practical exam, needless to say, involves demonstrating magic. While there is nothing particularly special about it, this aspect carries slightly more weight within the academy.
The written exam is quite detailed. It involves taking tests in seven subjects: one from humanities, two from natural sciences, two from social sciences, and two from magical sciences. The total scores from these exams are compared to determine the rankings.
Don’t underestimate the fantasy world. While physics and geology may be lagging behind compared to the previous world, in other fields, they are on par, if not surpassing them. In fact, there may even be areas where they excel. Magical sciences, in particular, are an uncharted territory, and we had to put considerable effort into studying them.
By the way, the scope of the pre-admission exam is equivalent to the entrance exams for universities in the previous world. As for myself, having been a working adult in the previous world, it was manageable, but I wonder if the main characters had a hard time. Those two, according to the game’s settings, were supposed to be high school students.
That being said, let’s put that aside for now.
Caron and I have been studying both theory and practical skills. Since it’s a rule to fill A1 class with the top 50 students based on grades, we should all be classmates. But if someone didn’t make it… well, we would have to study closely with them.
Now, I wonder if Shion will be back soon?
The class assignments are announced after the entrance ceremony, and there are two ways to check them. Either we can look at the class list posted on the bulletin boards scattered throughout the academy, or we can request the information from the administrative office.
For some reason, the academy recommends the former, and most students follow that recommendation. However, we chose the latter. We entrusted the arrangements to Shion, and the rest of us are waiting in the private room we used during the entrance ceremony.
There are various minor reasons, like avoiding the crowds, but the most important point is to avoid triggering any events.
In the original game, the first event occurs during the class announcement. It involves both the hero and the saint, actually.
The saint’s part is particularly significant. It’s where she has her first encounter with the second prince, leading to the development of the conflict between the saint and the villainess.
Considering the current situation, Caron’s relationship with the second prince is non-existent, so I don’t think such a development will occur. However, since it’s unclear how the story will unfold, it’s better to be cautious. By not going to the bulletin boards, we can avoid getting involved.
I am curious about the impact the downfall of the second prince has had on the real world. But since I have no interest in stepping on any visible landmines, I have decided to completely ignore it. After all, this event is like a tutorial.
While chatting with Caron and the others, there’s a knock on the door. I thought it was Shion, but it turned out to be someone else.
“Minerva, you’ve arrived,” I said.
The one who had arrived was Minerva, my fiancée. She had a petite figure, standing around 140 centimeters tall, and her black hair tied up in twin tails complemented her appearance beautifully. Of course, her looks were undeniably cute.
In response to my words, Minerva placed her hand on her hip and answered, “Yes. I knew you all wouldn’t move unnecessarily.”
A somewhat arrogant way of speaking was her trademark. Though she may appear strong-willed on the surface, her true nature was quite gentle. She could be described as a tsundere, in other words.
Everyone, including those other than myself who could read emotions, had grown accustomed to Minerva’s words and actions over the past six years. Now, everyone in the Foranada Castle warmly watches over her.
“What about Duke Larambel?” I asked.
Curious why she was the only one here, I inquired, and Minerva visibly frowned. It was an unusual attitude for her, as she tended to hide her true feelings.
“He went off on his own,” she replied.
“Why?”
“Well, you know… whenever he sees you…”
“I see.”
I understood.
During the incident with the royal faction six years ago, I publicly demonstrated my abilities. I showed that I could use magic even without colors.
As a result, many people’s attitudes towards me changed, but one of the most notable changes was Duke Larambel’s. Known as the Magic Madman, he sought information about the unfamiliar non-attributed magic that I wielded and approached me in a somewhat eccentric manner. It was like being approached with the excitement of someone who had pulled an all-nighter.
As his own daughter, Minerva surely didn’t want to witness her father’s deranged behavior. Therefore, it seemed that she had come here to brush him off and prevent an encounter between me and the duke.
“If you want to calm down the Duke, wouldn’t it be best for you not to come here and for you to be the one to stop him?” Caron said, opening her mouth while I praised Minerva with a “Well done.”
Her words contained a venomous tone that was unlike her, but when it came to dealing with Minerva, it became the usual scene.
Minerva, being the target of those words, naturally raised an eyebrow.
“I’m heading to the Foranada villa, so in the end, I’ll be separated from my father. Does it really matter when we part ways?”
“If that’s the case, then it would be better to hold off until the last moment. How about allowing me to be of assistance at a time like this?”
“Are you implying that I’m usually incompetent?”
“Oh, I didn’t mean to say that. Didn’t it come across?”
“Huh?”
“Is something the matter?”
The two of them closed the distance, exchanging fierce glares at close range. It had turned into a quarrel, a spectacle that had become a signature of Foranada Castle.
Whenever Caron and Minerva’s faces met, they would always end up in an argument. Yet, their fundamental principles were quite similar.
In essence, it seemed to be a form of kin antipathy. To borrow Orca’s words, they were “close enough to fight.” They didn’t fundamentally hate each other; they seemed to fight as an extension of their communication.
They were what you would call quarrel buddies. It was a feeling I couldn’t quite understand, but since they didn’t seem to truly despise each other, I had already given up on trying to comprehend it.
“Well, Shion still hasn’t returned. Should we make some tea?”
“Sounds good. I’ll help too.”
“Me too.”
It was already proven that the quarrel would settle without any intervention. So, leaving the two of them alone, we decided to pass the time together until Shion returned. We had become completely used to this situation. Whether to be happy about it or lament it was a question in itself.
As time passed amidst the commotion, Shion finally returned.
“Sorry for the wait, everyone.”
“Welcome back, Shion.”
We greeted her politely and received the documents she had gone to fetch. Although it was just the class roster for our assigned class.
“So, if it’s just one sheet, does that mean we’re all classmates?”
“Yes. I made some adjustments in that regard. It seems that Minerva-sama is in the same class as well.”
“Oh, did you take my situation into consideration too?”
“Yes. On the way, I happened to meet the Duke, so I thought Minerva-sama would also be here,” Shion replied.
“Hmph. For a servant, that’s a good judgment,” Minerva remarked.
“Thank you,” Shion responded.
After a brief exchange, I quickly scanned through the class roster. Everything seemed to be in order for Class A1. Unfortunately, both the hero and the saint were also present.
There was no helping it in this case. While there were other options besides aiming for Class A1, targeting a mediocre class would be more challenging. It would defeat the purpose if everyone ended up assigned to different classes.
As I continued reading, I unexpectedly came across a familiar name.
“Oh, Grey is here too.”
He belonged to Class A1 in the original game as well. However, after being eliminated from the race for the next Holy King, he faced neglect within the royal palace. Despite Prince Weimley protecting him, it would still be a difficult environment to improve his grades compared to the game.
Nevertheless, it was admirable that he managed to get into Class A1. Perhaps he had exerted his rebellious spirit and worked hard.
Well, that doesn’t mean that Grey’s evaluation has changed now. While I won’t do anything to him out of consideration for Weimley’s face, I won’t show him any mercy if he comes at me again.
I hope things don’t get complicated. With that wish in mind, I put the class roster away.
“Well then, shall we go back?” I called out to everyone since today’s schedule only consisted of the entrance ceremony.
We headed towards the carriage waiting in front of the main gate.
