Marron:Returning of a favor
“My name is Marron Châtaigne Castanea. I’m 168 centimeters tall, weigh 60 kilograms, and my measurements are 90-60-91. I enjoy taking afternoon naps, and I dislike gossip and hunger. I work as a maid in the Foranada County, and I consider myself an ordinary girl who can be found anywhere.”
I’m a bit better at remembering things than most people, and I take pride in my magical abilities. However, I don’t boast about it too much. When I was a freshman at the academy, I worked hard and achieved top grades, but I ended up being the target of jealousy, and people talked behind my back. I already had my job lined up, so I didn’t really care about my grades anymore. As long as the people who matter to me know my abilities, that’s enough.
“Ah, this is the life!”
My colleague, Galna, said in a gruff voice while finishing the beer in his mug.
After finishing our adventuring work, we were given a temporary break. Today, we came to the usual bar to relax and celebrate with the three of us.
By the way, I invited Shion-senpai as well, but she declined. He told us to enjoy ourselves with our fellow new recruits. He probably didn’t want to inconvenience us.
“Are you two really drinking properly? Your alcohol hasn’t even moved at all.”
As I sipped my fruit wine, Galna chimed in. His cheeks were a little rosy; was he already drunk? I looked, and his mug was empty.
“You’re being a bother.”
I managed to push away her annoying advances. Oh no, a bit of my drink spilled; what a waste.
“Galna, Marron doesn’t like this.”
“Eh, it’s not like that at all, right?”
“Going too far will make her dislike you.”
“Tch.”
As I grew weary of Galna’s antics, Teria came to my rescue. Truly a top student, she’s reliable~
Finally, Galna backed off, and I breathed a sigh of relief. Then, I took a sip of the remaining fruit wine. It was sweet and delicious.
We were all having a great time like this, when suddenly, Teria spoke up.
“Come to think of it, I’ve shared my reason for joining Foranada, but I’ve never heard why the two of you chose to work here,” she said.
“Now that you mention it, you’re right,” I replied.
Was it because Teria’s boyfriend works for Foranada? At first glance, she seems very proper… and she is quite proper, but when it comes to matters of love, she’s a bit of a romantic.
“Curious, are you?” I asked.
“Yes, a bit,” Teria answered simply.
Teria was usually sociable like today, but this was the first time she had proactively asked about others’ stories. I had always thought she wasn’t interested in such things.
Galna seemed to share the same impression, and he let out a meaningful sound, “Hmm.”
Perhaps embarrassed by our attention, Teria hid her face behind the cup she held. She looked kind of cute.
“So, are you going to answer my question?” she asked, her voice either impatient or shy.
Teasing her any further might be a bit cruel. After all, this was supposed to be a celebration.
Galna and I exchanged glances, silently deciding who should speak first. It seemed like Teria would be the one.
“I joined because of Noris,” she said.
“Noris, huh?” Teria asked.
“Yeah, that’s right. Right after graduation, I was thinking about traveling around the world or something like that, but then I decided to stop by the famous Foranada and, for some reason, ended up getting a job there!” she explained.
“I see…” Teria’s usually stoic expression seemed strained, probably because it was even more “Noris-centric” than she had imagined. I can understand her feelings.
“Wow, quite the adventurous spirit,” I exclaimed.
