I Was Reincarnated As The Older Brother Of A Villainess Destined to Die, So I Want To Change The Future By Raising My Younger Sister With My Own Hands. I Am The Strongest In The World, But My Little Sister Must Be The Cutest In The World - Volume 4 Chapter 5.2
The training grounds in the mansion were located underground. There was an intention to keep the training content hidden from the outside world.
Slipping through the boundary set on the outer edges, I witnessed the scene of the training ground. There, the situation was just as I had feared.
“Are you okay, Nina!?”
“I’m fine.”
“Fine…?”
Kneeling on the ground was Nina, and Caron rushed over to her in a panic. Nina herself mechanically replied, “I’m fine,” but it was obvious at a glance that things were far from okay.
Drenched in sweat, her face pale, she was taking deep breaths with her shoulders heaving. Even to an untrained eye, she looked seriously unwell.
Caron attempted to heal her with light magic, but…
“I don’t need it. I’m fine, I can move,”
Nina said, shaking off Caron and forcibly getting up on shaky legs. To top it off, she raised her sword that she hadn’t let go of even for a moment and uttered an unbelievable line.
“Let’s continue.”
Presumably, the two of them had been engaged in a mock battle until just moments ago. Nina had collapsed during the course of it.
Though her words made sense in a conversation, the reality was different. Nina was battered and bruised, and it was impossible for her to continue fighting without receiving treatment from Caron. Even now, the tip of her sword was trembling.
Naturally, Caron shook her head.
“No, it’s not okay. Please receive treatment quietly and rest for today. You’re in no condition to fight at the moment. I went along with you because you were insistent, but it’s clearly overtraining.”
As Caron stated, the cause of Nina’s poor condition was excessive training.
Lately, Nina had been dedicating most of her time to intense training, taking only the bare minimum breaks for meals and such. It was as if she had been possessed, swinging her sword with single-minded determination. With such a daily routine, it was only natural that her body and mind were worn out.
Nina shifted her gaze awkwardly.
“But…”
“I won’t entertain any arguments. I cannot permit training in such an exhausted state. Not as a Light Mage and not as a friend.”
“…”
Facing Caron’s firm stance, Nina lowered her head.
After several seconds of silence, she began to speak slowly.
“I don’t have time to rest. There’s someone targeting me. They’re trying to turn many beast people into slaves. I can’t overlook that. I know a glimpse of what will happen if beast people become slaves. I don’t want anyone to be pushed into such dire straits.”
The reason behind her excessive training was undoubtedly her desperation due to her inability to catch the kidnapper. Of course, the fear for her own life played a part, but above all, she couldn’t stand her own inadequacy in preventing someone from becoming a slave. Because she had experienced the hardships of a slave’s life firsthand, she didn’t want anyone else to go through that. It was a typical motive for the pure and kind-hearted Nina.
However, I can’t allow any more recklessness. While I had respected her will until now, I think it’s time to seriously intervene. I’ll have to talk to her as well.
Thinking this, I tried to approach them.
But before I could, Caron spoke up.
“Nina,”
Looking directly at Nina, Caron gently took the hand that was still gripping the sword.
“Your compassion for others is truly admirable. It makes us proud to have such a gentle friend.”
Caron’s clear voice was soft, warm, and it naturally seeped into my heart. There was an irresistible charm about her words.
“However, just as you care for other beast people, we also worry about you. Shion and the other staff have been keeping an eye on you during your training, making sure you don’t collapse. Orca has been reevaluating the information he’s gathered so far to ease your concerns. Minerva has been devising a training routine that respects your intentions but won’t harm your body through excessive training. Marina has been preparing nourishing meals so you can replenish after training. And as for my brother… Well, you know him. As you’re aware, he’s been doing everything for your sake.”
Caron paused there and tightened her grip on Nina’s hand.
“We all want to support you, Nina. Of course, I feel the same way. So please, don’t bear this burden alone. Lean on us.”
“But this is my problem.”
“Even so, please rely on us. Aren’t we like a family? Families support each other.”
“Family…”
Nina seemed somewhat puzzled as she pondered Caron’s words.
She probably recalled the words she had once said to her younger sister, Lina. She had also referred to the Foranada group as her “precious family.”
However, the idea of “relying on family” might have completely slipped Nina’s mind. After all, her own biological family had either abandoned her or sought to exploit her.
