Chapter 37: Is Miss Grim Reaper Amazing?

Wait a moment!

Upon seeing the Miss Grim Reaper beside me, I jolted awake from my nap and immediately tossed the towel blanket off me. I couldn’t help but instinctively shift away from her on the couch, creating some distance between us.

“You, you, you…”

Carefully observing the girl in front of me, I surveyed the rented room, ensuring there was nothing unusual around before I nervously asked, “Why are you here?”

Today isn’t Friday, right? Even if we counted yesterday as one day and today as another, it’s still not the “three days later” we had agreed upon, is it? So why is she here?

For business? Did I die again? Wasn’t this body supposed to be immortal?

Or maybe… she regretted it after using that so-called 9,999 years of magical power to turn me into this and decided to take back this little girl’s body, sending me straight to hell?

“Why can’t I appear here?”

Facing my questions, the Grim Reaper nonchalantly scooped up a spoonful of chicken soup and savored a sip, closing her eyes in enjoyment.

“The salt is just right, the flavors of the chicken and mushrooms combine perfectly, and there aren’t any random seasonings. This soup is almost like the work of a master chef.”

“You… Aaaaah!”

It wasn’t until this moment that I noticed the chicken soup in her hand. Disregarding the question of “why a Grim Reaper is appearing in my house again,” I rolled off the couch, rushed into the kitchen.

I moved a small stool over, stepped on it, and tiptoed to inspect the rice cooker. It was empty. My chicken soup, at this moment, only had a tiny bit of broth left and a small section of chicken claw. There was barely enough to fill a small bowl, let alone use it as a base for noodles.

“What have you done?”

Realizing what had happened, I turned around and said, somewhat irritated, “I worked hard… went to the market, waited for over an hour… Why did you…”

This chicken soup was specially cooked according to the little girl’s appetite. I had bought the smallest chicken I could find at the market, just enough for me to eat.

But this girl had eaten it all!

“Oh, sorry, sorry. I originally came to see how well you were adapting to your new body, but I couldn’t resist the temptation of your chicken soup.”

The Miss Grim Reaper took off her hood, revealing her long hair, and asked, “How does it feel to become a little girl?”

“Not great!”

I glared at her, “And, didn’t you say you would come three days later? It’s only the second day!”

The Grim Reaper wore an expression that said, “You silly little fool.” She responded, “Why can’t I come early to check on you? I did say I would come in three days, but I never said I wouldn’t come within these three days.”

Is she deliberately misleading me by using ambiguous language. This is not Grim Reaper, she’s definitely a demon!

“Alright, alright. It’s your freedom to come whenever you want, Miss Grim Reaper…”

I adopted an impatient tone, “But next time, could you please… knock on the door or make a bit of noise when you arrive? Even if you’re used to silently entering other people’s homes, can you please refrain from casually eating someone else’s dinner? You’re making me quite upset. I only made enough for one person, and now you’ve eaten it. I’ll go hungry tonight.”

Does a Grim Reaper even need to eat? Or is this just her mischievous nature?

If she really wants to eat, with her ability to open time portals and travel around the world, she could simply pop into any hotel kitchen and have whatever she wants.

“I told you, I came here today just to see how well you’re adjusting to your new body and to taste the chicken soup you made.”

The Miss Grim Reaper hopped off the armrest of the couch, approached me, and handed me the small bowl she was holding, saying, “Here, there’s still some left.”

I quickly glanced at the chicken and mushrooms in the bowl, “You’ve already had some…”

“What’s the matter? Are you unhappy about eating something already enjoyed by me?”

“It’s not that…”

I hesitated for a moment but ultimately accepted the bowl of soup. Well, considering this body is indirectly her creation, what’s a little indirect kiss anyway? It’s better than having nothing.

At this time, it was past seven, and even if there were shops open at the market, there probably wouldn’t be any fresh ingredients left. If I rejected this soup, I’d either have to order takeout or go hungry later. Takeout, however, wasn’t something I could afford as a financially challenged individual.

“So, why did you come over today?”

Pouring the chicken soup I had retrieved from the Grim Reaper into a separate soup bowl and mixing it with the remaining broth from the rice cooker, I picked up my chopsticks and returned to the cushion in the middle of the living room, sitting cross-legged like a duck, my usual posture.

“Do you regret it? Do you want to send me back to hell?”

“Hmm? Why would I think that?”

The Miss Grim Reaper turned to me, “Do I have any reason to send you to hell?”

“Because…”

I pondered for a moment. “You’re the one who said you used your 9,999 years of magical power to create this body for me, and the original me was just a regular middle-aged man. We don’t know each other, and the lessons should have been enough by now, right?”

“But it’s not just a few days of lessons,” the Miss Grim Reaper said with an amused expression. “I won’t be so lenient with you.”

“Huh?” My brain felt a little stuck. “So… how many more days do you need?”

I had been thinking about this for the past two days. I believed that since my original self had already suddenly passed away, as a Grim Reaper, she should be doing her job professionally. If there was some kind of lord of the afterlife, a Book of Life and Death, or a reincarnation system in this world, she couldn’t keep my soul in the mortal realm for too long.

Creating a little girl’s body was just a form of retaliation for my insolence back then. I assumed that when this Grim Reaper girl felt her revenge had been fulfilled or got tired of this game, she would take me away again.

Just like that young man from the village who died suddenly…

A person who had already passed away couldn’t stay in the mortal world for an extended period, could they? Even a Grim Reaper shouldn’t have that much authority, right?

“How many days?” She continued, “Little girl, I think you may be misunderstanding. Please discard any thoughts of you returning to being a middle-aged man or your soul being taken away. You have no connection to the person you used to be, and that body has been disposed of, do you understand?”

The dark mist around me shimmered, and the Miss Grim Reaper, who had been in front of me, suddenly teleported beside me. She leaned in close to my ear, her small head brushing against mine, and in a slightly teasing tone, she said, “You will always look like this little girl, as my servant… to be played with.”

“Stop!”

The warm breath against my ear made my whole body shiver, and I reflexively moved back a few steps, using both my hands and feet.

“Are you… are you serious?”

“Deadly serious.”

“So, I’ll always be like this in the future?”

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Isn’t this against the rules?”

My voice trembled, “You see, I don’t know if you have Hell, or the underworld, but I was already dead before, right? You didn’t take my soul… isn’t that wrong? Won’t there be consequences for enforcing the rules haphazardly? Aren’t you concerned at all?”

“I am the rule.”

The Miss Grim Reaper casually ran a hand through her long hair, saying in a plain tone, “No one can control me. Is that answer sufficient for you?”

I was stunned, “So, Grim Reapers can do as they please?”

“Yes.”

The girl smiled, “Grim Reapers can indeed do as they please.”

“……”

……
