I Will Never Submit to Miss Grim Reaper - Chapter 464
Chapter 464: Song of the Elves
“Teresia…”
Under the warm sunlight, Xiao Mo and I arrived at the entrance of the large garden beside the event center in Diwutith.
Facing a few elves ahead, I tried to greet them in my somewhat “clumsy” Elvish, “Can I say hello to you?”
“Teresia” is a word in Elvish that means “blessing” and is one of the most commonly used expressions among them.
Strictly speaking, I actually know many languages.
First, there is the local dialect from the Medicinal Plant Garden in the Honor District of Shenzhen City. This language is mainly based on “ethnic” or “clan” groups and is popular within a specific region, considered a dialect. Since the nurses who took care of us when we were young often taught us this language, I can understand and speak it.
Next is the “dialect” of Shenzhen City, which is equivalent to the local language of Shenzhen City and the surrounding cities.
Then there’s Mandarin and English.
I also studied German and Japanese for a while on my own.
From my personal experience, Mandarin is the most difficult among all languages, with the most characters to memorize and the most complex ways of expression.
There are expressions of surprise, doubt, anger, dissatisfaction, and so on. But after learning the Elvish language assembled by Xiao Mo, I realized that Elvish in the other world is the hardest to learn.
Elvish is the language with the most characters and grammatical particles in Grandis, and it requires the greatest understanding of context. It is unrivaled in this regard.
Because of its extensive vocabulary and numerous characters, Elvish almost covers all nouns in Grandis and is considered a universal language here.
As Xiao Mo said, the Elves are the most harmless and kind-hearted race in this world. Wherever you go, if you encounter a pure-blooded elf—not a mixed-blood—there is no need to worry about them harming you. This rule applies to all animals because most Elves primarily eat fruits and do not consider carnivory. The concept of “hurting others” doesn’t even exist for them.
“Teresia…”
Sensing my presence, several female elves in the small garden ahead turned around. The tallest elf among them curiously said, “You have a strong natural and life aura, but you’re not a pure-blooded elf. How strange…”
“Let me introduce her,” Xiao Mo said, stepping forward. “She is our country’s queen, a mixed-blood of four races.”
Xiao Mo continued with the introduction, “She’s been very curious about Elves since she was young.”
‘Teresia’ is a unique Elvish term for ‘blessing.’ It can be used in any context. For instance, when I said ‘Teresia’ earlier, it meant ‘Hello, nice to meet you, I wish you well, I mean no harm.’ When this elf lady says ‘Tèrésia,’ it means ‘Nice to meet you, welcome to be our friend.’
There are tens of thousands of such similar words in Elvish with different contexts. Combining these tens of thousands of words into various sentences, Elvish is, in my opinion, the hardest language to learn.
The vocabulary Xiao Mo imparted to me through dreams was quite abstract, similar to memorizing from a dictionary, so when interacting with real Elves, my Elvish ‘contextual vocabulary’ is noticeably insufficient.
“Oh! Your Majesty Queen of Diwutith!”
Xiao Mo’s introduction surprised the elves. They turned to me and asked, “Do we need to perform a ceremony, dear Queen?”
“No, no,” I quickly waved my hand. “Diwutith doesn’t have many traditional customs related to restrictions on thought and freedom.”
I wasn’t lying, I felt more like a “mascot” in this country than a “queen.”
As history progressed and time passed, even though many of Xiao Mo’s subordinates who helped build the country knew “Queen of Diwutith” in the early days of the nation, their descendants have not known much about me, the “half-hearted queen,” in recent years.
The only chance they might recognize me would be through the statues of the “Queen of Diwutith” in the city or in front of the palace.
However, a statue is not truly representative of a person, and few can remember someone just from a statue unless they have a strong affection for that person.
From my experience in Diwutith over the past few months, it seems people treat the “Queen of Diwutith” more like a “young princess.” They show me respect when they recognize me, but it isn’t the kind of terrifying respect that requires kneeling and ceremonies.
“Diwutith is indeed a free country.”
Seeing that Xiao Mo and I were not joking, the elven elder nodded, picked up the harp next to her, and continued, “I’ve heard that this place was once the endpoint of the anti-Demon King war, a place where worlds converge. With Diwutith celebrating a festival recently, we came to seek beauty and art.”
Honesty is also a trait of the Elves, unlike in the city where I come from on Earth.
In other places, I’m not very sure, but at least in Shenzhen, even friends are quite polite. For instance, if a friend invites you to their home and says “make yourself at home,” it is merely a form of courtesy.
If you actually behave as if it were your home, such as climbing into your friend’s bed without changing clothes, it would be considered impolite. Similarly, during the New Year, when people say “no need, no need, it’s too polite,” they are also expressing courtesy, and you cannot actually refrain from giving gifts.
This is a matter of human “personal relations.”
But among the Elves, there are none of these strange rules. If an Elf invites you to her home and says “make yourself at home,” she genuinely means she wants you to eat and sleep with her, and it doesn’t matter if you wear her clothes.
Similarly, when Xiao Mo and I said “no need for formalities,” the Elves take it seriously and firmly believe that there is no need for grand ceremonies when meeting the queen.
“This festival originally originated with the Demons.”
Seeing that the Elves seemed very interested in the festival, Xiao Mo kindly reminded me, “It’s a festival celebrating victory in war, but here, it’s generally… a celebration of joy.”
“We’ve been to many places, including mountains kissed by gentle breezes, snow-covered hills, and endless sand dunes…”
The Elf girl speaking seemed completely indifferent to the origins of the festival. “Music has no concept of good and evil.”
I glanced at Xiao Mo and said, “Let them perform a piece. I want to learn.”
Taking out my phone from my skirt pocket, I opened the recording function.
“Later, when we return to the cafe, I can give this authentic Elven song to Sister Ouyang as her wedding gift.”
“……”
