I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship, so I Became a Space Mercenary - Chapter 429.1
Of Course, It was Unmistakably Him
As it turned out, the process regarding the adjustments to Linda’s educational environment went smoothly.
“It makes me sick to my stomach that I have to manage such a large sum of money… but if it’s a request from big bro, I’ll do my best. I’ll make it work.” (Heinz)
Apparently, Heinz was glad that I relied on him rather than Hartmut for Linda’s matter, and he graciously agreed to manage the reward distribution for Linda. For what it was worth, he also had many connections in the colony, so he said he would take care of Linda’s needs.
“I’ve told Hartmut to take care of it as well, so don’t get into any weird disagreements or anything regarding that.” (Hiro)
Hartmut was also willing to make arrangements for Linda to pursue higher education if she so desired. Depending on how the dice were rolled, maybe three years from now Linda would be one heck of a lady.
“I know, big bro. She will definitely become one of big brother’s women, so I’ll keep an eye on her and scare away any insects that might come her way.” (Heinz)
“That is not a definite possibility, you know…? Let Linda do what she wants in that regard.” (Hiro)
In the next three years, if Linda decided to get a boyfriend, abandon the plan of joining my ship and live in this colony, that would be fine as well.
Linda’s life was up to her to control, and she didn’t need to be tied down by me in any way. If even after three years, she did not change her mind, then I would simply take her with me.
Linda was too young right now, but fifteen would be the same age that Mimi was when she boarded Krishna. In the Grakkan Empire, fifteen years old was considered an adult, and she could decide her own path for herself.
I mean, who could tell what I would be doing in three years’ time? If I have not died yet, I think I would be continuing my mercenary business.
“I see…I understand. By the way, isn’t it about time?” (Heinz)
“Yeah. We won’t be here by tomorrow. I will be returning to my carefree and rootless life.” (Hiro)
This time, I had no particular destination in mind. I also had nothing pressing to do. With my Krishna, Elma’s Antlion, and Mei’s Black Lotus, the three of us have not yet fully established our coordination, especially during the hunt for space pirates. For now, our immediate goal would be to improve our skill level while earning some money.
Well, we could not just wander around aimlessly and randomly, so I guess we should all get together tonight and have a meeting to decide where to go.
???
Did I mention that we would all be having a meeting? That was a lie… No, it was certainly not a lie.
“Well…it has been decided that our next destination will be the Creon system, even though I don’t like it at all. Yes, applause.” (Hiro)
Only Kugi, who didn’t really understand the situation, clapped… Kugi was so cute, hahaha.
“If Hiro decides, I’ll go along but… you’re not sending us to the front line, right?” (Mimi)
“That’s the thing. We won’t certainly be at the front, technically. We’ve been asked to take out the space pirates who are after the logistics in the rear of the troops.” (Hiro)
“That’s an odd request, isn’t it…” (Mimi)
“It’s from the usual person.” (Hiro)
“I see, certainly Colonel Serena is usually the one who gets the short end of the stick… haha.” (Mimi)
Mimi let out a dry laugh with an unusually emotionless expression. Tina had a troubled look on her face. Wiska looked anxious. Dr. Shoko was grinning in amusement. Mei had her usual blank expression.
I’d have to go back in time a bit to tell the reason we’re having this exchange.
Yes, it was right after I had asked Heinz to take care of Linda – not for free, of course, but for some money. My little information terminal buzzed with an incoming call.
Looking back, that time…no, it was useless to think about it. Either way, it was a dead end with no other choice. We, mercenaries, couldn’t live without any contacts with the Mercenaries Guild anyway.
