I woke up to find I have a child - Chapter 106
Being a civil servant may sound nice, but they are just as busy, if not busier, than the corporate slaves of big companies.
Recently, she’s been working on?The Sleeper?that Han Feixu and Ye Mingxin acted in. Shen Sangluo has been working overtime for a whole week and her entire body feels drained. Finally, when all the procedures were completed and it was 6 pm, she returned home. The first thing she did was to sprawl on the bed like a pancake. If it weren’t for her still open eyes, Jiang Lingyan would have thought she had passed out.
Jiang Lingyan walked over, knelt on the bed with a smile, and flipped the Shen pancake over.
“Aw, look how tired my Sang-Sang is. Come here, let me rub your back.”
As she spoke, she placed her hands on Shen Sangluo’s waist, kneading gently yet firmly. Shen Sangluo hummed in response to the comfortable feeling. Initially, her head was turned to the side, but after a moment of quiet, she exerted some effort to lift her head in the other direction. Once her face was pressed against her bedsheets, she became an emotionless pancake again.
“Can you rest starting today?”
Shen Sangluo silently raised three fingers, then said weakly, “Rest for three days. After three days, it’s back to work immediately.”
Jiang Lingyan frowned, “This job is too exhausting, the effort and reward are seriously disproportionate. Why don’t you quit and find a new one?”
With Shen Sangluo’s education and experience, she could do anything she wanted. If she wished to start her own company, Jiang Lingyan would support her wholeheartedly, and would even quit her job as a director to devote herself entirely to helping Shen Sangluo.
But Shen Sangluo didn’t accept her request, “No, I want to work in the Radio and Television department until I die. Didn’t I tell you? My goal is to become the first female director of the National Radio and Television Administration. If I resign now, what will happen to my goal?”
Jiang Lingyan laughed, knowing she was talking nonsense but still went along with her, “Alright, alright, if you don’t want to quit, then don’t. So, what does the future Director Shen plan to have for dinner tonight?”
Shen Sangluo rubbed her forehead, “Not eating, I’m going straight to sleep in a bit.”
“Eat a little, then sleep.”
Too lazy to move, Shen Sangluo slowly scooted over and snugged up to Jiang Lingyan. With her right hand, she brought a pillow over and then rested her head on the pillow while holding Jiang Lingyan. Shen Sangluo found the cozy environment extremely satisfying and only after a while did she remember to ask, “How are Yu Tingxue and Yin Jiahe doing?”
“They made up. I heard Yin Jiahe made a counter contract offer to Yu Tingxue and now wants to keep her.”
Without waiting for Jiang Lingyan to continue, Shen Sangluo laughed, “Did Yu Tingxue gratefully agree?”
Jiang Lingyan chuckled, “Pretty much. It’s all thanks to Han Feixu. I don’t know how she persuaded her, but she actually managed to persuade Yin Jiahe.”
“It has nothing to do with Han Feixu. She might have played a supporting role that moved things along at best. Even without her, they would have made up eventually.”
Jiang Lingyan was noncommittal, “That may be true, but it’s always good to take a few less detours.”
Seeing Shen Sangluo had no intention of getting up, Jiang Lingyan lay down as well and turned on her side as she sighed, “I’ve lived so many years, and many friends have come and gone, but the longest and most enduring relationships have been with Ye Mingxin and Yu Tingxue. It’s like we’ve been cursed, each one of us has had a rocky love life. Thankfully, although we’ve taken different paths, we’ve all found our way back, and the endings we got were pretty good.”
Shen Sangluo glanced sideways, “And whose fault is it that you had such a rocky love life?”
“All mine,” Jiang Lingyan had a strong desire to survive and readily admitted fault within seconds. Once Shen Sangluo let her off the hook, she reached out to touch Shen Sangluo’s cheek. Suddenly, she said, “Section Chief, as you are the head of the family, I have something to discuss with you.”
Shen Sangluo looked up, “What is it?”
“When can I visit your family? I’d like to meet your parents.”
Upon hearing this, Shen Sangluo immediately raised her eyebrows, “Why go to my house? There’s no holiday coming up.”
“I did mention wanting to go during Lunar New Year, but you didn’t let me go and asked me to just send some gifts. I’ve thought about it for a long time, and it still doesn’t seem right. It’d be nice to talk with the elders and clear up any misunderstandings. Besides, you wouldn’t want your parents to have a bad impression of me, right?”
Heh, look at how well she talks. It’s as if reason was on her side.
Shen Sangluo didn’t give her any face and laughed loudly, “No need. My parents have a very good impression of you. They’re quite open-minded people and don’t pay attention to such trivial matters. Just obediently stay at home.”
Jiang Lingyan fell silent for a moment, and since soft tactics didn’t work, it was time to deploy the touch tactics.
She sat up, her expression seemingly unchanged, but her eyes betrayed a hint of hurt, “Do you not want me to meet your parents? Do you think I’m embarrassing?”
For Jiang Lingyan, whining a little while acting wronged was considered a touch tactic = =
Shen Sangluo also sat up, meeting Jiang Lingyan’s gaze quietly, then calmly nodded, “Yep, quite embarrassing.”
Jiang Lingyan: “…”
Now she was genuinely aggrieved. She turned her back to Shen Sangluo. Shen Sangluo felt silent and then moved closer. She tried to touch her arm, but Jiang Lingyan quickly dodged to one side, preventing her from touching her.
Shen Sangluo reached out again, this time quickly grabbing Jiang Lingyan’s fingers. She shook her hand and conceded, “Alright, I’ll take you back home, okay? How about next Saturday?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Jiang Lingyan turned back around and earnestly asked, “Does your dad like to drink? Should I bring a bottle of liquor for him? Would he drink it?”
Shen Sangluo: “…Up to you, bring whatever you want.”
She lay back down, and Jiang Lingyan pushed her waist, “How can you leave it at that? What if they don’t like it? It’s going to be my first time meeting my father-in-law.”
Shen Sangluo was truly exhausted and was barely able to keep her eyes open, but Jiang Lingyan kept talking. Shen Sangluo shielded her eyes with her arm, and impatiently replied, “It doesn’t matter, my parents aren’t picky. As long as I love you and they’ll like you too when I bring you home.”
Hearing this, Jiang Lingyan was still somewhat uneasy, “It’s better to be safe than sorry, so no, you should still tell me what your parents like.”
Exasperated, Shen Sangluo dropped her arm, “Please! You’re my lover. As long as I love you, even if they really don’t like you, so what? You’re not living with them for the rest of your life. Relax, my parents don’t eat people.”
After saying all that, Shen Sangluo turned over and closed her eyes, ready to sleep. The atmosphere became quiet, and after three seconds, Shen Sangluo suddenly opened her eyes.
Her body was somewhat stiff, and the silence from the person behind her made her even more tense.
Finally, Shen Sangluo mustered her courage, sat up, turned around, and looked at the silent Jiang Lingyan.
The latter still had a stunned expression on her face.
She opened her mouth, “That’s the first time you’ve said you love me.”
Shen Sangluo looked down, nervously fiddling with her fingers, “Ah, is it?”
“It is.” Jiang LingYan replied quickly and with certainty.
“…Then, I’ll say it more often in the future, but you know, I’m not the type to say love words often… I graduated from Peking University, not Tsinghua University…” (*T/N: Tsinghua University is like the Harvard of China)
Shen Sangluo rambled whatever was on her mind as she searched for the right words. Suddenly, something soft touched her back and her eyes flashed in surprise. She was about to close her eyes when suddenly her shoulders were pressed and she was pushed back into the bed without warning.
She stared blankly up at the person above her. Jiang LIngyan had one hand on her chest while the other was trying to take off her skin-tight skirt.
“….”
Are you or are you not going to let me sleep?!
