I woke up to find I have a child - Chapter 108
Important things must be said three times: THIS IS A BOY-GIRL ENDING! BOY-GIRL ENDING! BOY-GIRL ENDING! You’ve been warned.
Inside a certain low-key, yet elegant restaurant, waitresses holding black-laqcuered folders moved between tables while a pianist sat at the southwest corner of the restaurant, his beautiful and soothing music pouring out with each press of his fingertips.
Two waitresses hid behind a divider, one of them stomped her feet excitedly, “It’s I.V.! I can’t believe I.V. is here!!”
I.V. is a new male idol who debuted this year with good looks that fit the public’s aesthetic perfectly. This restaurant was known for its high level of secrecy, so it was often frequented by celebrities, but they hadn’t expected I.V. to come here.
Compared to the nearly fainting fangirl, the other waitress was more rational.
“Hey, hey, hey, calm down, didn’t you see he’s got a female companion with him? Might be his girlfriend. Oh no, would you look at that, your idol is taken, but you’re still hopelessly single.”
“…Stop making sarcastic comments and go over there to listen to what they’re saying.”
“Why should I go? Do it yourself.”
“If I go, I’ll definitely slip up! Hurry and go, please! I’ll cover half of one of your shifts later if you do.”
“Remember that you said that. Alright, I’m heading over.”
I.V. was the public’s darling, and one glance at his face on TV could make one flush red, let alone seeing him in real life. Even if this waitress wasn’t an I.V. fan, she was also somewhat affected by his face.
She found a spot, pretending to wait to serve customers, and began to openly eavesdrop.
They had been so focused on I.V. earlier that they hadn’t taken a good look at his female companion. The waitress glanced over and promptly fell silent.
Beautiful people really do stick together…
If I.V.’s face made him the public’s darling, then his female companion had the face of a temptress who could bring disaster onto a country. The former could make those who see him blush and their hearts race, while the latter could make onlookers fall in love at first sight and fall to their knees as they offer up everything they own just to get her to smile.
This woman was the main character, while the waitress suddenly felt like she was a fish. As if she had instantly devolved back into a sea creature and was no longer qualified to call herself a mammal.
Meanwhile, the good-looking duo were talking.
The man called I.V. said, “Are you really not going to order something? Just drinking coffee won’t be enough.”
She gently set down her coffee cup and slowly lifted her gaze, “No need, I won’t be here long.”
I.V. fell silent for a moment, seemingly understanding the real reason he was summoned here, and he began to change the subject, “The steak here is quite good, I’ll order one for you, waitress—”
“I didn’t call you here to dine with you,” the girl quickly interrupted him, the last trace of a smile vanishing from her face, “Considering you’re an artist under my great-uncle’s company, I’ll let go of the incident where you publicly claimed to have a lover. But if it happens again, well….you mentioned the steak here is good? How would you like to come here to serve steak to customers next time?”
I.V.’s expression immediately stiffened, and after a long while, he let out a forced chuckle, “I didn’t mention your name, and I was just fending off the paparazzi, I didn’t intend to drag you into this…”
Didn’t intend to drag her into this? A wealthy heiress, connected to industry insiders, and a famous actress’ daughter? Saying all this to the paparazzi, anyone could guess who he was referring to with this information.
Leaning back, she smirked at I.V., “There are many pursuing me, but you’re the first to try to pressure me into accepting you through public opinion. Impressive. You’ve changed my original impression of you. Turns out you’re not just incredibly stupid, but also incredibly disgusting.”
I.V. couldn’t maintain his composure anymore. As a top-class celebrity, everyone always flattered him and nobody dared to speak to him like that. His face turned cold, “Miss Han, please watch your language. What’s wrong with me pursuing you? Yet just an offhand remark makes you react like a dog whose tail was stepped on. Are you a little too shameless?”
The person across from him had been calmly observing him, but at his last remark, she couldn’t help but burst into laughter. After laughing for a while, she nodded, “You can leave now. Expect a call from my great-uncle tonight.”
After that, she lowered her head, scrolling through her phone’s contacts as if she were about to make a call. I.V. seemed to finally remember just who he was talking to and immediately regretted his words, “This…I spoke without thinking. I just like you too much, so I was too impulsive. I’m sorry, please forgive me just this once?”
No matter what he said, she remained indifferent. Desperate, he reached out to snatch her phone.
If it weren’t for the restaurant’s rules, the eavesdropping waitress would have screamed in frustration to the heavens for a minute. So, this is what I.V. is like in private? He was truly revolting. And that poor girl was unlucky enough to be targeted by him. Wait, are they going to fight? Here? Should she intervene and separate them?
As his hand reached out, the girl, Yiyi, frowned and dodged his grasp. She lifted her head, still not speaking, but she raised an eyebrow.
I.V. still obliviously reached for the phone when a large, strong hand clamped on his shoulder, forcing him back into his seat. Confused, I.V. looked up to see a man not much older than him, frowning down at him with displeasure and anger.
“What are you doing? Are you trying to rob someone in broad daylight?”
The man’s voice was mesmerizing, nice, and as deep as a cello. I.V. was still processing what happened when a sarcastic voice came from the person sitting across from him.
“Robbery might be an overstatement. He just scolded me a bit, saying I’m like a dog whose tail has been stepped on and that I’m being too shameless.”
“I’m not one to curse or fight, so if I’m bullied, I can only endure it. Sadly, that’s all I can do. So, I was about to call my great-uncle to seek justice for me. But he didn’t like that and wanted to take my phone.”
With each word she said, the new man’s face turned uglier. The waitress, puzzled, studied the trio and felt that the new man looked familiar but couldn’t place him. Tilting her head, she struggled to recall, before finally remembering who he was.
A moment later, she gasped.
Isn’t this the Nation’s “Most-Wanted Husband”, Ye Pinlan?!
Born in the Ye family, he took over the Ye family’s large conglomerate at a young age. Now, also having launched a budget-friendly drugstore brand, his net worth has skyrocketed in just a few years. But what truly captivates everyone’s hearts is his exceptional good looks!
A tall, rich, and handsome man. Even though he wasn’t a celebrity, he frequently appeared on the trending searches every two days. He had legions of fans clamoring to marry him. My god….
Wait, if he’s Ye Pinlan, then who is I.V.’s female companion? She has a mixed-raced appearance, has enough power to threaten I.V. with such an assertive tone, and not to mention her close relationship with Ye Pinlan… Could she be Han Ye-Nianyi???
The waitress’ jaw dropped.
Everyone knows the famous actor Ye Mingxin’s wife is Han Feixu, and their daughter is a gorgeous mixed-race looking child. Unfortunately, after sharing photos of her daughter for only a year after she was revealed to the world, Ye Mingxin stopped updating her social media as she also stopped acting. So while everyone knows what their daughter looked like as a child, they have no clue what she looks like now.
But now, one certain waitress knows…
While the waitress remained stunned, Ye Pinlan had already dealt with I.V. and made him flee in a disgraceful manner. Watching the idol’s retreating figure, Ye Pinlan let out a light snort and then pulled up a chair to sit opposite of Yiyi, “Just how did you end up having to deal with someone like him?”
Ye Pinlan couldn’t understand why she’d bother coming out herself and anger herself when she could have just sent her secretary.
While browsing the menu, Yiyi replied, “I didn’t come out for him. With or without him, I was planning to dine out today. I felt bored waiting here, so I just called him out. Consider it a pre-meal show.”
Ye Pinlan looked at her disapprovingly, “Don’t you know that doing such things is dangerous? You’re not allowed to meet these random people alone in the future.”
Yi Yi pouted as she realized one of her sources of entertainment was disappearing.
Yet, seeing Ye Pinlan’s expression, she reluctantly agreed, “Alright, I get it. So, what brought you out today?”
“I’m discussing an acquisition with Tongying Company. I’ve booked a private room on the second floor. You should come up too.”
Yi Yi shook her head.
“Why? Isn’t it lonely to dine alone? I’ll even treat you. Come on, it’ll be good for you to listen in and learn a bit.”
Closing the menu, Yiyi scoffed, “Who said I’m dining alone? I’m waiting for someone. You go ahead. Dealing with those board members is already a headache. I’m not going to abuse myself with acquisition deals on my day off.”
Ye Pinlan raised an eyebrow, “Waiting for who? A boyfriend?”
Yiyi gave him a speechless look.
Ye Pinlan thought about it and changed his words, “A girlfriend?”
“..Can’t I go out for dinner with just friends? Ai, speaking of, mama said you went on a blind date last week. How was it?”
Once you reach a certain age, everyone is forced to go on at least one blind date by a family elder. Even President Ye, who stood above his peers, could not avoid it. He fell silent and then said, “I didn’t go. I told the woman over the phone that I didn’t plan on dating in the near future and that my elders were forcing me on this date. She was a very nice person and didn’t bother me again after I finished saying my piece.”
He lowered his eyes, avoiding the other party’s gaze, when he heard a loud and clear laugh, “Hahaha.”
Ye Pinlan: “….”
Why are you laughing at my pain? Today it may be me, but it’ll be your turn tomorrow.
He quickly changed the subject, not wanting to talk about his forced marriage talks anymore, and looked up at the door, “Why isn’t your friend here yet? Who are you waiting for?”
“We originally agreed to meet 20 minutes from now. You don’t need to worry about me, you should go upstairs. He’ll be here soon.”
Ye Pinlan carefully studied Yiyi before he finally understood.
So she had come here an hour early just to sit here and ridicule I.V., that idiot. By doing so, she provoked I.V. into saying something stupid that she could justifiably reprimand him. After all, his public statement last time didn’t mention her name directly, so her accusation would be baseless unless he confessed his misdeeds himself. Then, after dealing with I.V., the friend she had actually planned to meet for lunch would have arrived just in time for the lunch hour.
If he hadn’t shown up unexpectedly, I.V. might still be here arguing with Yiyi.
Ye Pinlan fell silent before saying, “You really know how to maximize the most out of your time.”
Yiyi smiled, “That makes two of us. Ah, here he is.”
Ye Pinlan turned around to see a somewhat familiar-looking young man approaching them. He seemed to be in his early twenties, with a handsome face and a composed demeanor, and sporting a healthy tan complexion. His looks were much better than the slimy and dandy-looking I.V.
Ye Pinlan stood up and found that he nearly matched the newcomer in height. However, his presence still outshone the other party. He looked the other party up and down before becoming stunned as he realized who the other party was.
The young man spoke, “Big brother, you’re here too?”
Ye Pinlan: “….”
He narrowed his eyes, “Who are you calling ‘big brother’?”
Caught off guard, the young man’s calmness disappeared and he scratched his head, “Aren’t you basically like Yiyi’s older brother? If I don’t call you big brother, what should I call you then? I can’t just call you bro….”
Ye Pinlan “….”
Where did this idiot come from?!
From his initial “not bad” impression of the young man, his opinion of the other party plummeted straight to “there’s something wrong with his brain”. He straightened his sleeves and turned to Yiyi, “I’m heading upstairs. You come straight home after you eat, and don’t cause trouble outside.”
Yiyi ignored him. She was all grown up now and didn’t need her “brother” telling her what to do.
After Ye Pinlan left, the young man took his seat but was in no rush to order. Instead, he asked Yiyi, “Why did you come so early? Did you have an errand to run?”
“Yeah,” Yiyi continued browsing the menu, “I was dealing with a fly, but it’s already dealt with. Can you eat lobster?”
The subject changed a bit too fast and the young man asked dumbly, “I can..wait, not, what kind of fly?”
Yiyi snapped her fingers, and a waiter promptly approached. She rapidly listed the dishes, “For the appetizers, we’ll have the fried squid and shrimp with black caviar. For the main, Catalonian lobster with a side of vegetable salad, but if there is any arugula in the salad please remove it. He doesn’t like it. Also, a serving of porcini risotto with roasted vegetables, veal slices with cheese, and for dessert, two servings of Hokkaido goat milk.”
After taking down the order, the waiter left. The man was still trying to catch up, “What fly were you talking about? Did someone confess to you again?”
“Being liked is a form of approval, and I wouldn’t compare those who like me to flies,” Yiyi smiled at him, “This fly, however, annoyed me very much.”
He furrowed his brows, “Who is it?”
“Why do you care so much? By the way, didn’t you say you were going to a board meeting yesterday? Did your dad show any interest in your proposal?”
They’ve known each other since they were children. Back when Yiyi became famous in their school in just one night. When she pulled off his pants and then put them over his head. Despite the many years that have passed, this story is still fondly recounted by their kindergarten teachers. The main characters of the story have long forgotten the incident, but over the nearly two decades since, their bond has only grown stronger, day by day.
“You don’t have to keep everything to yourself, okay? It wouldn’t hurt to complain to me sometimes. We’re friends, and don’t you know my character by now? I wouldn’t tell anyone else.”
He tried to persuade her gently, but Yiyi didn’t relent. What he said was true, he wouldn’t tell anyone else and thus she wouldn’t be in any trouble, but if he knew who the offending party was, then I.V. would be the one in trouble.
“My issues are mine to deal with. Don’t worry, I don’t take anything he does to heart. Such a trivial matter isn’t worth complaining about.”
After a satisfying meal, Yiyi felt sleepy and decided not to stay out any longer and had the young man drive her home. Sitting in the passenger seat, Yiyi’s head began to droop and almost hit the window. After quickly looking at the traffic and ensuring there were no immediate hazards, the young man quickly reached out a hand to push Yiyi’s head away from the window. Yiyi was half-asleep and opened her eyes with blurry vision, but upon recognizing him, she closed her eyes again and, within seconds, fell into a peaceful sleep.
Over the years, his place in Yiyi’s heart was the same as a family member, perhaps even more so. Once, Ye Pinlan was the most important peer in Yiyi’s life, but, as they grew older, Ye Pinlan couldn’t always be by her side and Ye Pinlan’s position gradually started to be filled by this young man instead. He had always been aware of this shift, but he wanted something more than Ye Pinlan’s old position.
Glancing at Yiyi’s serene sleeping face, he sighed internally and turned his attention back to the road.
Never mind, she’s still young. There’s no rush.
After all, he has a lot of patience. Whether it be the starting line of their relationship or his perseverance, no one could possibly outdo him.
Author’s notes:
The side characters’ stories are now done. There is still technically Chi Qiu left, but this author couldn’t write out the words because this author suddenly realized…they’re both bottoms. And nothing good comes out of two bottoms together….
Tomorrow I’ll start releasing the extra stories on the main couple.
T/N:
Yiyi’s love interest is so….bland. He doesn’t even have a name (trust me, I looked and he is simply called “boy” or “young man”). It’s probably because there weren’t any other possible love interests since the only other child character Yiyi had any significant interaction with was Ye Pinlan, but he’s her cousin so ¯_(?)_/¯
