I woke up to find I have a child - Chapter 55
After organizing her mood, Jiang LingYuan took out her cosmetic bag and touched up her makeup. After taking a deep breath, Jiang LingYuan felt mentally prepared.
She solemnly opened the door. She had decided to face Han Feixu with her most elegant appearance. Although she was heartbroken, she didn’t want the person she liked and her rival to look down on her.
So she came backstage with her head held high, only to find neither Han Feixu not Ye Mingxin back there.
“….”
Ye Mingxin was in her dressing room, having her makeup touched up, while Han Feixu had gone to the bathroom.
Han Feixu walked out of the stall and lowered her head to wash her hands. Another person entered the women’s bathroom, but she didn’t pay them much attention. When she finished washing her hands, she grabbed some paper towel to dry them and turned to leave.
However, she froze in place when she turned around.
Sensing that someone was staring at her, the other party gently shook off the excess water on her hands and took out a handkerchief from the pocket of her light brown linen clothes. While she wiped her hand, she looked at Han Feixu and said, “What’s wrong?”
Han Feixu finally returned to her senses, but she didn’t know what to say. She stood there at a loss for a while before she put her hands together into a salute and bowed, “Greetings, Great Master.”
Nan Zhihan: “….”
Nan Zhihan was wearing very simple clothes today, as there weren’t any patterns on her clothes at all. Furthermore, there was a string of Buddhist beads hanging from her right hand. The beads looked wooden, but the surface was very smooth and the light seemed to bounce off of them. One could see that these beads are rubbed quite often, and have been rubbed for a long time*. (*T/N: Buddhist prayer beads are often carried by Buddhist monks and they usually rub them when praying, contemplating, etc.)
But that was not the main reason Han Feixu was calling her “Great Master”. The main reason was because Nan Zhihan is…bald.
A bald head can become the greatest asset of a person’s appearance. With Nan Zhihan’s small face and down to earth appearance, Han Feixu mistook her for a Buddhist nun.
Nan Zhihan frowned and looked at her, “Han Feixu, what did you just call me?”
Han Feixu looked at her with an even more shocked face, “Great Master, you know me?”
Nan Zhihan: “….”
She approached Han Feixu, taking a few steps forward, before stopping and studying her face carefully. After a while, she took two steps back and gave her a look full of suspicion, “It seems that something has happened to you, has your brain been broken?”
This time Han Feixu was truly shocked, “Great Master, no wonder you are worthy of being called one. You can even divine such things just from looking at someone’s face?”
Yes, she can fortune tell just based on your face. She can also hit people too.
Later, Liang Zhu came over because Han Feixu hadn’t returned in a while and had to save her from this embarrassing situation.
After some introductions from Liang Zhu, Han Feixu found out that this “nun” is none other than the author of her favorite mystery/suspense novel, ?Cold and Windy Night?.
Now that she had finally met her favorite author in the flesh, she had to ask her everything.
Like a cannonball firing one after another, Han Feixu asked 7-8 questions in a row about the plot or characters. Nan Zhihan could only answer three before she got annoyed and couldn’t take it anymore, “Haven’t you asked me all these things before?!!”
Han Feixu blinked and said innocently, “But I forgot….”
Seeing Nan Zhihan’s speechless expression, Han Feixu quickly changed the subject, and began to worm her way into becoming her favorite author’s friend, “Um, why did you dress up like this?”
Nan Zhihan held up her beads, “I am a Buddhist.”
“Oh.” Han Feixu nodded repeatedly and then smiled as she pointed at her head, “I get it, this is called ‘purifying the six roots’.” (*T/N: To cleanse oneself from human desires/passions)
Nan Zhihan shook her head, “No, I shaved my head because it was too hot and I wanted to cool off.”
Han Feixu: “….”
You are quite honest = =
As the two of them chatted outside, Ye Mingxin finally came out of the dressing room and walked over when she spotted them, “What are you two talking about?”
Nan Zhihan: “Talking about my hair.”
Ye Mingxin sized her up, “Didn’t you just grow out a layer of hair during the winter? Why did you shave it all again?”
Nan Zhihan replied helplessly, “There is no way, this summer is just too hot.”
It’s hot every summer. With that logic, you might as well keep your head bald all year long.
Ye Mingxin and Nan Zhihan knew each other because she had acted in the TV adaptation of her book, but Han Feixu and Nan Zhihan didn’t have much interaction. When Ye Mingxin was filming for the ?Cold and Windy Night?series, she was still living abroad so how did she meet Nan Zhihan the first time around?
When she asked this question, Nan Zhihan answered vaguely, “If two people are predestined to meet, then everything is predestined. And if everything is predestined, they will naturally meet once again.”
After hearing this, although she didn’t understand anything, Han Feixu felt that this sentence was very deep. However, thinking about it again, Nan Zhihan didn’t seem to answer her question at all. Han Feixu stared at her dumbfoundedly and decided to ask for outside help.
She looked over at Ye Mingxin, “What does she mean?”
Ye Mingxin replied, “It means she doesn’t remember either and so she’s speaking in circles to deceive you.”
Han Feixu: “….”
Nan Zhihan: If you can see through my schemes, please don’t say it out loud.
Nan Zhihan coughed dryly and then looked at Han Feixu, her amber eyes seemingly transparent, “Since we were destined to meet again, let me tell you your fortune and you can treat it as a reunion gift.”
Han Feixu’s eyes widened and didn’t speak for a long time. Nan Zhihan recalled Han Feixu’s reaction the last time she said she wanted to tell her fortune and her face darkened, “And no, I am not a religious con artist!” (*T/N: The exact word is: ?? and is a reference to the religious fraud/cults/con-artists problem in Taiwan)
Han Feixu looked at Ye Mingxin again, and the latter nodded, “She really isn’t a con-artist. Con-artists usually charge money, but she doesn’t.”
Han Feixu let out a sigh of relief, “Oh, then you can give it a try.”
“…..”
Nan Zhihan felt like she shouldn’t have offered in the first place, but still said in the end, “What do you want me to divine for you?”
Han Feixu thought for a while and said, “Try and figure out what I ate last night.”
A strange sound came out of Nan Zhihan’s throat, something between a laugh and a cold snort. She coughed lightly, and she shook her head, “Humans really don’t change easily.”
Han Feixu looked at her in confusion, “What do you mean by that?”
Nan Zhihan raised her eyes and looked at her in bemusement, “The first time I offered to fortune tell for you, you said the same thing because you didn’t trust me very much.”
Han Feixu is an atheist, so how could she trust and believe that someone could divine anything from just looking at her.
Nan Zhihan simply shook her head and lowered her head as she pinched her fingers together. A few seconds later, Nan Zhihan began announcing the dishes she ate last night, “A Cobb salad with Thousand Island dressing, and a spicy chicken burger. Also a McSpicy burger, a carton of french fries, a box of McNuggets and you originally wanted to buy a Coke Zero but since you were already making an exception to your diet you decided to go all the way and simply buy a regular Coca-Cola instead.”
Then she touched her bald head and added, “Oh, and you also ate an ice cream cone.”
Goddamn.
Ye Mingxin looked at Han Feixu speechlessly: “Didn’t you say that you want to lose weight? You ate so many high-calorie foods at night, and all of them are from Mcdonalds. Wait, you ordered takeout from Mcdonalds yesterday? Who got it for you?”
Does it matter if it was Mcdonalds???? The important point is how did Nan Zhihan know?!
Han Feixu’s eyes almost jumped out of her head while Nan Zhihan rubbed her bald head triumphantly, “See, I’m not a con artist. I have real talents and learning, otherwise why do you think my books are so popular? It is because I have calculated it before writing, and foretold what will be popular and what will not be popular beforehand.”
Han Feixu instantly grew excited, “Great Master! I knew I wasn’t wrong in calling you that, you really are a Great Master! Then, can you help me figure out if I’ll get another growth spurt?!”
Ye Mingxin: “….”
Nan Zhihan: “…” You’re already quite well-endowed, and you still want to grow? Do you want to become a 36D or something?!!
Nan Zhihan silently swallowed a mouthful of blood, and replied coldly: “I don’t even need to read the future to know this one, you won’t.”
Han Feixu is not obsessed with her figure, but with her height. She is only one centimeter shorter than Ye Mingxin, just one centimeter!
She always felt that she could never beat Ye Mingxin in anything, even her height was inferior. So if she could grow a little taller, it would definitely be Ye Mingxin who will be suppressed in the end!
Perhaps one day the Heavens will grant her wish and her dreams won’t be in vain.
Nan Zhihan knocked a hand on the table, “Be more realistic.”
“Then…” Han Feixu looked around and made sure no one was looking at them. She leaned over and asked in a quiet whisper, “Will I win this variety show?”
Nan Zhihan lowered his eyes for a while, then looked at her again, “No.”
Han Feixu froze and even Ye Mingxin showed a little surprise. Someone called Nan Zhihan from a distance and she stood up, “I’ll be taking my leave first, we’ll talk later.”
Looking at Nan Zhihan’s retreating back, neither of them knew what to say. Ye Mingxin had known Nan Zhihan for a long time, and knew very well how accurate her very weird and enviable rare skill is. Sitting in her seat facing Han Feixu, she could clearly see the sinking expression on Han Feixu’s face.
She thought about what to say for a while and then said, “Little Xu…”
Before she could finish the rest of the sentence, Han Feixu slapped the table, “What kind of Great Master is she? She is obviously a con artist! Those who write novels love to make things up. I am an atheist so I don’t believe in any of that stuff! Hmph, I’ll win the championship and show her!”
After finishing speaking, Han Fei got up angrily and went to find Liang Zhu to film the script they were given.
