I woke up to find I have a child - Chapter 6
Shen Sangluo also didn’t know much since for about five or six years of the last ten years, the two of them didn’t even live in the same country. Han Feixu had traveled around the world while she stayed in the nation’s capital and rarely went out except for a few business trips. Although the contact between the two of them had not been broken, they were physically far away from each other so it was inevitable for their contact to decrease as time went on. If Han Feixu didn’t actively tell her, then she would be none the wiser as to what her friend has been up to.
Therefore, she decided to start with what she already knew.
“On Youth Day of May the 4th, we went to the Taiyangyu hotel together but ended up not seeing Ye Mingxin at all. I don’t know what went wrong, but the last star to perform was another singer instead of Ye Mingxin. At the time, the hotel was full of Ye Mingxin’s fans and they started up a ruckus with the event organizers. And let me tell you, when obsessed and crazy fans get riled up, it’s extremely terrifying. I almost thought I was going to die there.”
Even recalling that day made Shen Sangluo break out into a fearful expression. From that day onwards, she refused to become involved with the creatures called ‘fangirls’ and developed a hatred for crowded places. Even now, if there are too many people in a room, her heart starts beating like crazy and she’d get painful heart palpitations as well.
Imaging the scene described by Shen Sangluo in her mind, Han Feixu had a feeling that she would be one of those incensed and angry fans =_=
“But…what does all this have to do with me and my problem?”
“Just listen to me,” Shen Sangluo kicked off her slippers and sat cross-legged on the sofa like Han Feixu. She peeled an orange for herself, “Ye Mingxin’s staff heard the ruckus and they feared that this incident would become a big deal that would affect Ye Minxin’s reputation, so they brought her assistant over to comfort the fans and give out some complimentary gifts. At the time, I couldn’t stand it any longer and pulled you out of the hotel. Then as a result….”
Shen Sangluo paused for a while with a regretful expression on her face as she patted her thigh with a sigh, “I would’ve not dragged you out of there if I had known what would happen next. It would’ve been better to have stayed in that crowd and received those useless gifts. But who would’ve known that the infamous Ye Mingxin would be standing at the back door of the hotel. As it turns out, she was there all along!”
If Ye Mingxin appeared in person, the fans would’ve become more crazy and might accidentally hurt her in the process. So the agent had asked her to wait outside and stand in the shade next to the company’s car. She had on a large hat, sunglasses and a big baseball jacket to disguise herself but Han Feixu still recognized her in the end.
According to the rumors, Ye Mingxin was always polite yet distant with her fans. It was said that she always had an expression on her face that made one feel that she was 1000 miles away, forever out of reach. However, on that day, Shen Sangluo realized that those rumors were completely untrue.
The warm smile she had shown to Han Fexiu at that time made Shen Sangluo, who hated Ye Mingxin with every bone in her body, unable to forget it for the last ten years. If that smile had such an affect on Shen Sangluo, then there is no need to mention what that smile meant to Han Feixu who regarded the woman as her goddess.
When Han Feixu saw Ye Mingxin, she ran over excitedly while Shen Sangluo stood far away. She didn’t know what her friend said to Ye Mingxin but she saw everything that happened next. Ye Mingxin appeared to have been stunned for about two seconds and then a gentle expression appeared on the star’s face before she said a few words to Han Feixu. Before the star left, she gave the two pieces of chocolate that she had saved to replenish her energy to Han Feixu instead.
From that day on, it was like Han Feixu had been injected with chicken blood. Before, she used to be just a regular fan who occasionally fangirled over Ye Mingxin. If Ye Mingxin were to disappear, she could easily be replaced by another star. However, after meeting her just once, Han Feixu determined to follow only Ye Mingxin for the rest of her life and even decided to take the entrance exams for the Beijing Film Academy. She wanted to join the entertainment circle, become a great actress so one day she could stand side by side with Ye Mingxin.
Hearing this, Han Feixu was so amazed that she had to interrupt her friend, “I said I wanted to take the entrance exams for the Beijing Film Academy?”
Shen Sangluo shook her head, “You didn’t just take the exams, but you actually passed them.”
Han Feixu’s eyes widened, “But wasn’t I an orchestra student????”
Yes, she was a performing arts student, but not every performing arts student actually went into entertainment media. She was studying orchestra, and specifically, the violin. She had worked hard for more than ten years and after years of bitter work, she finally was able to become the first violinist in a very prominent youth orchestra. Yet after going through all that trouble she had just given up years of hard work to take the Beijing Film Academy’s exams??? Was her brain flooded with water or something?!
Shen Sangluo looked at her coldly, “So it turns out, even you understood that your brain must’ve been flooded with water to make such a decision.”
Han Feixu: “…” Why does she feel so guilty?
At that time, so many people had persuaded Han Feixu to not act impulsively, yet she had resolutely given up the violin and turned around to study acting instead. What was even more annoying was that she actually succeeded! She passed all her general and culture courses, successfully graduating high school, and even passed the Beijing Film Academy’s entrance exams!
During the summer vacation of her third year of high school, a director was looking for someone to fit a certain role in his new film. He got a list of all the incoming new students from the Beijing Film Academy and contacted each of them one by one before getting them all together for an audition. In the end, Han Feixu was the one selected for the role and it just so happened that the role she got was one of the main characters in the film. The other main character was none other than Ye Mingxin.
In the film they acted in at that time, Han Feixu and Ye Mingxin were the two female heroines. The movie helped elevate Ye Mingxin’s fame to an even higher level and helped Han Feixu win the best newcomer award. In the end, this movie also contributed to their developing relationship and eventual marriage.
Han Feixu’s eyes glowed while she listened: “Wow, so romantic! Is this what they call…fate?!”
“…more like doomed fate.”
Before Han Feixu began filming, the two of them had a lot of contact and met up almost every day. Then when Han Feixu started filming, they started meeting less and so Shen Sangluo only knew that Han Feixu was having a secret relationship with Ye Mingxin. She didn’t know about the details, what happened between the two, what they did, or where they met up. Then two years later, Han Fexiu turned 20 and suddenly her best friend and Ye Mingxin got married.
Han Feixu was getting engrossed into the story before she was stunned with the sudden fast development, “Suddenly? Just like that? Shouldn’t there be a reason for the sudden development?”
The next few words seemed difficult for Shen Sangluo as she went silent for a while before saying: “I don’t know. When I got the news, the two of you were already engaged and then not long after the two of you got your marriage certificates.”
If it was any other time, Han Feixu would most definitely have jumped three feet in the air and then said with as much emotion as someone injected with chicken blood, “A flash marriage?!! Wow, so avant-garde! (T/N: Flash or blitz marriage (Chinese: ??, sh?nh?n) is recent Chinese slang for a marriage between partners who have known each other for a very short amount of time.)
But looking at Shen Sangluo’s expression, she felt that the inside story must not be as simple as it seems. She knew Shen Sangluo well enough to know that Shen Sangluo must have more to say about the matter and it must be something that she wouldn’t want to hear.
“Around 2011, Uncle Han went on a business trip to Fujian and Aunt Han accompanied him. Who would have thought that an accident would happen….”
Han Feixu stared at her blankly.
What kind of reaction did the then 19-year-old Han Feixu have when the news came out? Shen Sangluo wouldn’t know as by the time she had gotten the news, Han Feixu was already on the plane to Fuzhou (capital city of Fujian) and Ye Mingxin had gone with her. After that, Han Feixu didn’t answer anyone’s calls for a long time but Ye Mingxin had assured her that Han Feixu was safe. After the dust had settled, she had learned that Han Feixu was going to marry Ye Mingxin.
After her parents died, Han Feixu ceased all activities associated with her acting career. Instead, she focused on finishing school and tried to have children with Ye Mingxin as soon as possible. She had thought that if she decided to have a child after graduating and returning to the entertainment circle, it would be difficult to raise a child by then.
However, having children was easier said than done. The operation had failed two times, and Han Feixu fell even deeper into her frenzy state. When Shen Sangluo tried to call her, nine out of ten times, she didn’t answer. Then, seemingly overnight, the entire nation was stunned by a certain sex scandal and the protagonist of that scandel was none other than….Ye Mingxin. At the time, the ‘See you on Monday’* scandal was still trending and Shen Sangluo did not expect that Ye Mingxin would participate in one herself. (T/N: ‘See you on Monday’ was a scandal around 2012-2014. A male actor cheated on his pregnant wife with his co-star and scandalous pictures of this affair were leaked to the media. The media who leaked the pictures said they would release more in their article the following week, so some cruel netizens made a ‘joke’ by leaving the comment ‘see you on monday’ on the weibo of the stars involved. Thus, the phrase then became popular with the netizens of China and has now become a slang that loosely refers to a great scandal, usually a sex/cheating/affair scandal.)
When the scandal broke out, Han Feixu was still in school.
Two weeks later, Han Feixu suddenly went out of the country and abandoned her studies. She only told Shen Sangluo, but everyone else, even Ye Mingxin, did not know where she went.
At the time, Ye Mingxin had come to her and asked where Han Feixu went but she had only told the star that she didn’t know. After all, she was going to support her best friend first and foremost. If Han Feixu didn’t want others to know, then she wouldn’t tell another soul. After Han Feixu left the country, she didn’t contact anyone in China except for Shen Sangluo and even then she would only receive the occasional email or two. Half a year later, Han Feixu suddenly told her that she was pregnant and then seven months later she had Yiyi. At the time, she thought Han Feixu would never return to China ever again.
So how did Ye Mingxin find Han Feixu?
It wasn’t that Ye Mingxin found Han Feixu, but that Han Feixu had returned to China in the beginning of the year to divorce Ye Mingxin. Shen Sangluo didn’t know what happened abroad, she only knew that her friend had returned.
Although she is Han Feixu’s best friend, she does not know everything and only knows about half of the story. Han Feixu was not someone who would divorce their wife just because of one scandal. There must’ve been other things that happened between them, but the original Han Feixu was like a stubborn gourd and refused to say anything. Now the current Han Feixu doesn’t even know as much as her.
And since learning about the grievous news about her parents, the current Han Feixu has been keeping her head lowered without saying a thing. Once Shen Sangluo had finished speaking, Han Feixu suddenly stood up and said, “I’m going back first.”
Shen Sangluo wanted her to stay, but she insisted on going back. She couldn’t stop her and could only watch her friend crouch near the door as she changed out of her slippers. When she stood up to leave again, Shen Sangluo tried to stop her again.
“I should’ve said this seven years ago and I know that any comfort I can give must seem like bullsh*t to you right now, but just let me say this one sentence.”
Han Feixu did not look back, but she did not leave either, “You’re not alone. You are not an orphan. You have a family. Yiyi and even….Ye Mingxin.”
Han Feixu turned her head slightly, letting out a soft ‘En’ before twisting the door handle.
Looking at her retreating back, Shen Sangluo closed her eyes as she recalled what Han Feixu said to her as they sat on that roadside bench six years ago,
“I want a baby.”
At that time, Shen Sangluo was just in her third year of college. Marriage and childbirth were things far in the future for her and although Han Feixu had given her a lot of good reasons, she still couldn’t accept it, “You’re still too young! You haven’t even finished college yet! It’s too early to want children!”
Han Feixu then lowered her eyes and looked at the ginkgo leaves that covered the ground below,
“But I want a family who will never leave me.”
When she spoke, her voice was soft, just like the ginkgo leaf fluttering in the air and gently falling onto the ground.
Shen Sangluo had never liked or disliked Ye Mingxin until that day. From that day onwards, She hated Ye Mingxin with all her might.
To this day, she still didn’t know what Ye Mingxin did to force Han Feixu to say such an anguished sentence.
It was 11 o’clock in the evening when Han Feixu walked out of Shen Sangluo’s house. She didn’t drive and didn’t want to take a taxi, so she walked slowly and aimlessly on the cold streets.
The terrible news of the death of her parents was very shocking to her, yet strangely she hasn’t shed a single tear. She only looked at everything around her in a trance-like state.
Her parents died seven years ago, but to her, it seemed like her mother had cooked dinner for her only yesterday. She also remembered that her father was on a business trip the day before yesterday. He had said that he would bring back some of the local specialties as a souvenir for her later and would even personally go pick up a seashell on the beach for her.
She had only slept for a few minutes, so how did things turn out like this?
The phone vibrated suddenly, and Han Feixu took it out to see the name Liang-jie vibrating on her screen.
After picking it up, a cheerful female voice rang in her ears, “Feixu, I finished settling the contract for the show tomorrow. Tomorrow, at one o’clock, you can go directly to the studio and I will meet you there. I’m still rather busy over here so I won’t say much more now that you’ve been notified. See you tomorrow.”
The call came suddenly and ended just as suddenly. She looked at her now black screen and exhaled slightly before putting it back into her pocket.
The nights in early May were still a bit chilly, and Han Feixu was wearing a creamy white lace-up trench coat but she did not button it so the coat swayed with the chilly night’s wind. She stuffed her cold hands into the pockets of her coat and then raised her head. She was about to take a step forward with her slender and fair legs when she stopped in place.
In front of her, Ye Mingxin leaned against a black SUV. She had just come from a party and so she was still wearing her formal evening dress, a silver dress that paired nicely with a square black cloak and it made her figure look sleek and tall. Seeing that the other party was looking at her, Ye Mingxin slowly straightened her back and silently looked at the other person who stood about three meters away from her.
After a half minute pause, Ye Mingxin walked towards her.
Ye Mingxin stood in front of Feixu’s thin figure and stretched out a hand to gently and skillfully help her button up her coat. The slender white knuckles entered Han Feixu’s gaze as they slowly buttoned up her coat from the bottom to the top. When the last button was closed, Ye Mingxin leaned forward slightly in a hug-like posture. Her arm hesitantly wrapped around Han Feixu’s waist and a cold fragrance wafted up into her nose. This was Ye Mingxin’s scent.
Han Feixu’s heart, which was like stagnant water, seemed to finally move because of this faint fragrance. Her expression also shifted slightly, but before she could push the other away, Ye Mingxin’s hands quickly withdrew to reveal a wrinkled coat belt in her hands. Then she casually and simply tied the belt around Han Feixu’s waist.
As the belt tightened, Han Feixu’s sanity returned as well. She lifted her eyes from the belt to look at Ye Mingxin.
The other looked back at her coldly, but there were traces of tenderness in her voice,
“It’s time to go home.”
Author’s notes:
Ye Mingxin: Don’t be sad, your wife is here. Hug me-
Han Feixu: ?? _ ??
===============================
Ye Mingxin is not a scumbag, not a scumbag, not a scumbag!!! Don’t listen to Shen Shagluo’s words which are only one side of the story, she has only seen the tip of the iceberg. What happened in the past will slowly be revealed little by little. (Still the author’s words)
T/N:
Note: I will be using the pinyin form of the honorific ‘Sister’. For those of you who don’t’ know, older sister/brother in Chinese is ??(jie jie)/??(ge ge) and usually people will only attach one -jie or -ge after the end of someone’s name to show respect to someone who is older. There is also another set of honorifics for older people to use on younger people, but that’s for another time. Just know it’s basically senpai/kouhai but Chinese version. Previously I’ve just been using “Brother/Sister so-and-so” but I felt like a lot of connotations are lost and the english translation makes it weird as in English we (most of the time) use brother/sister to signify a blood relation. Therefore, from now on, if there is no blood relation, I am using the chinese pinyin for honorifics like “Liang-jie” or “Wang-ge” but if they are blood related, I will stick with the english version such as “Big Brother Yun”.
