Han Feixu didn’t say a word.

She purposefully turned her head to the side and refused to look at Ye Mingxin, but this didn’t stop Ye Mingxin from continuing.

“You should also know about how our first kiss happened and it happened because of the so-called ‘kissing scene’. You had come to my room with your script in hand, and you were so nervous that you kept fidgeting with it. I walked over to you and you looked up at me with teary eyes…”

Ye Mingxin was immersed in past memories and speaking in a low, husky voice, when Han Feixu ruthlessly interrupted her, “Looking up? You’re only 1 centimeter taller than me, how would I be looking up at you?”

Having been suddenly interrupted, the beautiful image in Ye Mingxin’s mind shattered instantly. She fell silent, “I was wearing high heels, and you were in sneakers. At that time, you didn’t have an agent and knew nothing about the entertainment industry, and didn’t know that most female stars were required to wear high heels almost at all times.”

Even now Han Feixu still dislikes wearing high heels. Although it’s not very tiring or painful for her to wear them, it still feels strange. Once she puts them on, her walking posture feels different from usual. Although she couldn’t see it herself when she walked in them, she could feel the difference.

After staying silent for a while, Han Feixu suddenly turned her head and interrogated with a strict expression, “Besides me, who else did you film kissing scenes with?”

After asking, she suddenly changed her mind, “No, don’t tell me who they are, just tell me how many there were.”

She was afraid if she found out she would become obsessed, investigate these people, and watch their every movement = =

Ye Mingxin looked back at her with a calm expression, “No one else.”

Han Feixu was stunned, “No one?”

“Really, no one else.” Ye Mingxin tilted her head, “I have a little germaphobia and don’t like it when others touch me, much less kiss me. Every time a film comes out and I watch it again and see someone supposedly kissing me, I physically feel sick.”

Han Feixu blinked lightly, “But Yuanyuan said you’ve filmed kissing scenes with someone else before.”

Ye Mingxin laughed, “Well, about halfway through the filming of the movie, I noticed that you were hesitating, as if you didn’t know if you should confess or not. Since you didn’t dare take action, I had to give you a nudge. Those photos that were released of a supposed kissing scene with another person were all fake and I even asked them to clarify the news later.

Han Feixu: “…You really are insidious.”

If she’s insidious, then so be it. As long as it works.

Ye Mingxin could still clearly remember when Han Feixu had found out about the news. Han Feixu had felt aggrieved but felt awkward to say anything. Finally, she couldn’t hold it in any longer and ran to Ye Mingxin, angrily and sadly accusing her and asking her why she lied.

Because Ye Mingxin had said to her back then that her kiss with Han Feixu was her first kiss. Then, not long after, the news of the fake kiss came out. Han Feixu at first thought she shouldn’t feel so jealous as actors and actresses had to have done this for the sake of their movies. She was still very, very angry however, so much so that she wanted to cry.

Ye Mingxin had faced her questioning without a change in expression. After letting her finish, she asked, “But why are you so angry?”

Han Feixu was so choked up she could barely breathe. After stammering for a while, she finally blurted out in frustration, “Because I like you! You knew that all along and still treated me this way, you’re so mean!”

At that moment, Han Feixu’s expression was one of desperation, as if she was risking everything on an all or nothing gambit. Even now, thinking back, Ye Mingxin can’t help but laugh at how adorable and cute she was.

Han Feixu watched speechlessly as Ye Mingxin got lost in some strange memory, and  turned her head to look at the scenery outside, “Why did you bring the car here, to this random place?

They were on a high, sloping hilltop and there was a pedestrian overpass of Wangfujing in front of them,  while behind them was a pitch-black alley, next to which were several large garbage bins.

Han Feixu really couldn’t understand. Is this supposed to be peaceful or something?

Hearing her, Ye Mingxin also looked outside and said, “I guessed we might end up discussing a certain topic, so I brought you here. I believe this place has a special significance to both of us.”

“What kind of significance can such an ordinary place have?” Han Feixu’s expression revealed her thoughts. Ye Mingxin smiled slightly, “That building behind us is the Taiyangyu hotel.”

“Taiyangyu hotel? What is the Taiyangyu hotel…”

Mid-sentence, Han Feixu suddenly remembered that the point of her amnesia began was the day she was supposed to go to the Taiyangyu Hotel, which was also supposedly the day she met Ye Mingxin for the second time.

Han Feixu looked carefully behind her, then lowered her voice,  “I wonder when I’ll be able to remember everything.”

“There’s no rush.” Ye Mingxin grabbed her hand and intertwined their fingers. Han Feixu could feel the heat of Ye Mingxin’s hand on hers as she spoke, “Before you remember everything, I can slowly tell you everything that has happened in our past.”

Han Feixu shook her head as she smiled lightly.

The two of them stayed at the back door of the Taiyangyu Hotel for about an hour before returning home. At first, when Han Feixu remembered her childhood memories, she didn’t think much of it. But as time passed, she found herself repeatedly thinking back to the memories that had returned to her.

When night came and Ye Mingxin turned off the lights, Han Feixu instinctively shuddered.

Ye Mingxin naturally noticed something was off about her, and immediately reached out to hold her hand, “Don’t be scared.”

The little shudder Han Feixu made just now was instinctive, as if it was muscle memory. She calmed down quickly. She was fine, it was just that the scenes of her past were a little too stimulating for her.

She is an adult now and her mind has matured a lot. She should no longer have those nightmares she used to have as a child.

Even so, Ye Mingxin didn’t dare be careless and hugged Han Feixu into her arms. After listening to the beating of Ye Mingxin’s heart for a while, Han Feixu was finally able to fall asleep.

The season was now late autumn slipping into early winter. At seven in the morning, the first few rays of sunlight were already shining into the house, indicating good weather for the day ahead.

Han Feixu sat at the head of the bed. She had been awake for quite some time and had watched the sky turn from black to blue, then from blue to white. Most of the time, she sat there thinking of nothing as she sat there quietly.

At seven o’clock, on the dot, Ye Mingxin woke up. She glanced at the ceiling groggily for a few seconds, then threw off the blanket and prepared to sit up. She had just started this motion when she saw Han Feixu sitting beside her, already wide awake.

Casually combing through her messy hair, Ye Mingxin asked her, “Why did you wake up so early?”

“I don’t know,” Han Feixu replied honestly: “I woke up early and couldn’t fall back asleep. I was too lazy to get out of bed, so I just kept sitting here. Since you’re awake, let’s get up, have breakfast, and then head to the set.”

Ye Mingxin got out of bed as suggested. She couldn’t find her slippers so she stood barefoot on the floor, and bent down to look for them under the bed. That’s when she heard Han Feixu, who was changing clothes nearby, say, “Ye Mingxin.”

“Hmm?”

“How about we make it public?”

With a loud bang, Ye Mingxin hit her head on the edge of the bed.

The pain didn’t hurt as much as it sounded, but she asked in surprise, “Why?”

Han Feixu looked at her innocently, “Because this way, our lives will be much more convenient. We won’t have to travel separately anymore, and we won’t have to sneak around.”

Previously, when Ye Mingxin wanted to go public, Han Feixu had disagreed. Now that Han Feixu was the one who wanted to go public, Ye Mingxin hesitated. As she put on her slippers, she thought for a few seconds before suggesting to Han Feixu, “Let’s wait a bit longer for the right opportunity.”

“What do you mean?”

“Going public is a big deal. It will greatly affect our lives and careers. Many things need to be handled in advance, and we need a good plan to minimize any negative impacts.”

Han Feixu put on her jeans, muttering, “What negative impacts could there be? We’re not like idols who are always in the spotlight, and aren’t there always people asking online every day if we had a falling out? This way, we can give them an answer, that we didn’t fall out, but instead got married.”

As she pulled up her pants, she suddenly remembered something, “Also, have you found the person who said I got pregnant and gave birth abroad?”

“I found him a long time ago and gave him a large sum of hush money to shut up.”

Han Feixu’s eyes widened, “But how and where did he get this information? Did he find out through his investigations?”

“I also figured that out.” Ye Mingxin walked up to her, “After your comeback, your popularity skyrocketed. Apparently you once bought maternity products in Philadelphia and someone recognized you from back then. She didn’t say anything at the time, but after you became popular again, she started gossiping among her friends. Of course, it was just within her circle, but the journalist overheard it.”

So that’s what happened. It was inevitable then.

People love to spread gossip, and while entertainment journalists are easily bought with money, they can’t possibly go around buying off everyone who hears such news.  No secrets can be kept forever in this world and sooner or later, people will find out.

Han Feixu nodded, “It’s better to keep Yiyi’s matter a secret for now. If it gets out, we’ll deal with it then.”

Speaking of Yiyi, Han Feixu asked, “Are we bringing Yiyi back tonight?”

Ye Mingxin hummed in response, then raised her head inquiringly, “Why, is something wrong?”

Han Feixu smiled, “Yes, well, I don’t plan on returning tonight. Since I haven’t seen Shen Sangluo in a while I planned to stay at her place tonight. You know, for a girl’s night.”

Ye Mingxin thought about it for a moment, “Alright then, I’ll notify Mom and let Yiyi stay with them for another day. We can bring her back tomorrow.”

Even though Han Feixu wouldn’t be returning home later, Ye Mingxin still was so it was odd that she wouldn’t be bringing Yiyi home herself. Han Feixu looked at her blankly, and Ye Mingxin chuckled, “Since you’re taking over Section Chief Shen’s place, Jiang Lingyan will have nowhere to sleep. Rather than the two of us staying home alone, we might as well go out for the night.”

“Alright, just don’t overdo it and don’t drink too much.”

Ye Mingxin agreed, “I know.”

Among all the actors, including the entire crew, Ye Mingxin and Han Feixu lived the closest to the set, but they were still the last to arrive.

Dugu Yuehua, holding a bullhorn in one hand, scolded them furiously.

“As two of the leads, you made the entire crew wait for you two by coming in late. Did you two never attend elementary school?! Don’t you know  that ‘time is money’?!”

In his excitement, Dugu Yuehua even spat a little. Han Feixu had to go to the makeup room and quietly wash her face before changing into her costume.

Gao Changxiu sat beside her and asked in a whisper, “Feixu-jie, why did you come with Mingxin-jie? Did you two just happen to run into each other?”

Han Feixu remained silent for a moment before saying, “We got stuck in traffic together.”

Gao Changxiu  understood. In Beijing’s traffic, it was inevitable to get stuck in traffic. He sympathetically patted Han Feixu’s chair, and then sat back down to let the makeup artist apply some highlights to his face.

Today is Han Feixu’s first appearance.

Qi Hanxue has arrived at the mental hospital to find a patient she knew, only to learn that the person had died. When she heard this news, Xia Ning, who was standing opposite behind the glass window Hanxue caught Hanxue’s eye and then smiled at her.

The smile was friendly, bold, and a bit mischievous.

But as soon as Qi Hanxue turned around, her expression gradually changed, becoming cold, mocking, with a hint of calculation on her face.

Han Feixu really liked playing villains, especially those with reasons for their bad deeds. Those characters that evoke sympathy and make people unable to hate them despite their crimes.

When Qi Hanxue turned back to ask the nurse who the girl who smiled at her was, she heard the name Xia Ning and found it familiar. After searching online, she discovered that this was the daughter of Xia Changhe, the man who captured her brother’s killer and saved her back then. If it weren’t for Xia Changhe’s accurate deductions, Qi Hanxue would be long dead by now.

A close-up shot here revealed Qi Hanxue’s surprise, nostalgia, gratitude, pain, and confusion. Han Feixu, who was standing outside the set, watched Ye Mingxin act without blinking.

Ye Mingixn had perfectly conveyed all those emotions. Watching her expressions, the audience are drawn into her complex inner world and as various emotions explode in their hearts, the audience finds their minds unsettled as well.

Han Feixu tightly grasped the sleeve of the person beside her, “She’s acting so well that I’m getting goosebumps!”

Gao Changxiu stumbled as she pulled him and quickly reclaimed his sleeve, “Feixu-jie, you can say whatever you want, but please don’t get so excited…”

Seeing the situation, Mao Yangjun walked over to Han Feixu with a smile, “Feixu-jie, you’ve worked with Mingxin-jie for so many years, how can you still be so surprised by her acting?”

Gao Changxiu stood on Han Feixu’s right, and Mao Yangjun approached on her left. Han Feixu looked at him, blinked, and then politely smiled, “Actually, I’m not much older than you, so you might as well call me Han Feixu. It makes me feel younger when you call me by my name”

She was joking in the last part, but her emphasis was on the first part. Mao Yangjun understood her meaning, she didn’t want him to call her jie.

His smile faltered a bit. He glanced sideways at Gao Changxiu, who was intently watching the others acting on set. Mao Yangjun chuckled, “Don’t say that. I used to live in Korea and seniority is highly regarded there. Furthermore, under Hong Kong’s seniority system, since I used to work under Liang-jie, I should be calling you ‘senior sister.’”

Han Feixu raised an eyebrow, “But I’m neither Korean nor a resident of Hong Kong. I don’t adhere to the rules of either place. So let’s keep it casual, like they do here on the mainland.”

After this much was said, pushing anymore would only make things uncomfortable for himself. Mao Yangjun walked away dejectedly, but it wasn’t until he left the room that Gao Changxiu moved next to Han Feixu and silently gave her a thumbs-up without looking at her.

Han Feixu swatted his hand away, modestly deflecting his praise as she smiled slightly.

Since they were in the early stages of filming, Han Feixu didn’t have that many scenes. She had one scene of a face-to-face conversation with Ye Mingxin and then went over the criminal case Ye Mingxin’s character gave to her. With that scene, her early appearance came to an end and now she had to wait for the leads to “rescue her” from the mental hospital before she could film her other scenes.

Xia Ning, Han Feixu’s character, Xia Ning has multiple personalities. She is mentally ill, but neither she nor others know about this as only the psychiatrist Jin Liang knows. But he lacked professional ethics and had his own agenda. Thus, he quietly watched as Qi Hanxue and others took Xia Ning away while completely indifferent to the serious consequences her leaving could cause.

Dugu Yuehua is someone who loves complex love stories, and this time it was no different. Han Feixu’s character has multiple personalities and thus her relationships are even more complicated. Xia Ning’s second personality loves Qi Hanxue, while Xia Ning’s first personality likes the original Xia Ning. Then Jin Liang, the psychiatrist, also likes Xia Ning’s original personality, while Gao Tian likes Qi Hanxue, Gao Qi likes Xia Ning first personality, and Qi Hanxue likes no one.

Han Feixu herself was also attracted to Xia Ning’s character at first, but after learning she had dissociative identity disorder, that attraction disappeared. She couldn’t tell which personality she actually liked.

Xia Ning has a total of three alternate personalities, the first of which emerged when she was fourteen. Her father took her to observe an interrogation, intending to train her early since she showed signs of her genius intelligence. However, he didn’t expect that in her first case study, Xia Ning drove the murderer to uncontrollable laughter and then a violent outburst with just a few words. This indicated she struck a nerve with the killer, an impossible feat for a fourteen-year-old who shouldn’t be able to know what a murderer was thinking with just one look.

Xia Ning’s father then realized his daughter and the murderer were similar, and that his daughter was showing signs of an antisocial personality.

From that moment onwards, Xia Ning’s father made her undergo various mental treatments everyday to try and fix her. Xia Ning was scared and couldn’t understand why her father was suddenly being like this and as a sort of defense mechanism, her original personality and first personality split. The main and original personality does not know about the existence of her first split personality.

The first split personality is the antisocial personality, aka the psychopathic personality. This personality has no sympathy nor emotions for anyone else, and only cares about a set of rules it sets for itself and protecting the body hosting it. The second and third split personalities came into being when Xia Ning’s parents died. Their existence is to solely protect Xia Ning. Personality No.2 is the smart Xia Ning that appears the most often. This personality does not remember her father forcing her to undergo “treatments” and even the memory of her parents’ death is faded when this personality surfaces. Thus, it allows Xia Ning to live in a world without any guilt or sadness.

Meanwhile, personality No. 3 has all the memories of the original Xia Ning and identifies as a male. When personality No. 2 can no longer hold on, he will appear and use gentle words to try and relieve the emotions of personality No.2.

All in all, this is to say that the Xia Ning played by Han Feixu for majority of the beginning is personality No. and it is not until much later that it is revealed that Xia Ning has multiple personalities. Personality No. 3 will slowly appear every now and then before personality No. 1 appears. For most of the movie, everyone will think that No.2 is the main personality when in reality the main and original personality has been sleeping this entire time.

Her father had forced many treatments onto her, causing her psyche to collapse many times. Later, when her parents died in a car accident, her uncle slandered her name by saying she was the one who did it. The part about her killing her parents is untrue, but it is true that it was because of her that her parents died. After all, her parents had driven out in the middle of the night because they heard about a place where someone with an antisocial personality was cured. They died in a traffic accident due to their urgency.

Xia Ning couldn’t bear the trauma of all this and was traumatized to the point that two more personalities appeared to manage her body while she remained asleep. At the end of the movie, the final boss, the main villain and Xia Ning’s personality No.1 will team up to set fire to Qi Hanxue’s and the other’s places. But at this critical moment the original and main personality finally woke up and took charge of Xia Ning’s body. Once the main personality wakes up, no other personality can take control of Xia Ning’s body anymore.

The reason the movie is called ?The Sleeper?is because of this plot point.

Han Feixu recounted the entire story of Xia Ning to Shen Sangluo as they sat together at Shen Sangluo’s place. Shen Sangluo’s eyes lit up at the end, “This is so exciting, it’s amazing! If the filming turns out well, this will become another one of your masterpieces, right?”

Shen Sangluo is the one in charge of the censorship and approval of this film, but she herself hadn’t seen the final script yet. The script submitted for approval was just the initial draft and the same version Han Feixu saw at first, but the final script had changed significantly.

Han Feixu raised her eyebrows proudly. “Of course, at the end of the movie, Xia Ning saves the other main characters but stays in the fire herself and smiles as flames burn around her. Do you know how many times I practiced that smile? I practiced in front of a mirror so much until I was sick of seeing myself.”

Shen Sangluo laughed. “Then can you give me a show?”

Han Feixu put down her water glass and looked at her expressionlessly.

Shen Sangluo met her gaze for two seconds, but the other party’s expression remained blank. Just as Shen Sangluo was about to ask when the actingwould start, she saw Han Feixu’s expression gradually change.

A single smile that reveals the devil hidden underneath.

Shen Sangluo quickly recoiled, throwing a pillow at her face. “Stop it, I don’t want to have any nightmares. Didn’t you say the main personality is a good person? Can a good person smile like that?”

Han Feixu shrugged indifferently. “I didn’t say she was a good person, just that she has a good side. In my understanding, she’s an amalgamation of the other three personalities – smart, gentle, optimistic, but also cruel. She thought she would never be let out again, so she chose to sleep. But when she woke up and found out she was out, guess what the first thing she wanted to do was?”

Shen Sangluo thought for a moment. “Get revenge?”

“Right, and that’s why she smiled like that.”

Shen Sangluo nodded in understanding.

For a while, Han Feixu and Shen Sangluo didn’t speak. Shen Sangluo sized her up. “You suddenly came to my house and said you wanted to stay the night. You’re not just here to tell me how terrifying your role is, right?”

Han Feixu smiled. “Of course not, I’m here to see my best friend.”

Shen Sangluo chuckled. “Yeah, right, sure I believe you. Now tell me the truth, what did you really come here for?”
