I woke up to find I have a child - Chapter 95
After asking her question, Ye Mingxin turned her head to glance at Han Yiren again before reaching over to pull out her IV.
Qi Yu hurriedly grabbed her hand and pleaded repeatedly, “Don’t! Boss, it’s not worth it!”
“Let go of me! I’m going to fight her to the death today!”
Qi Yu was frantic, “Even if you want to fight, this isn’t the way. What’s the use of pulling out an IV? It’s just medicine inside, she’ll still be alive and jumping around even if you pull it out. It’s better to pull out her oxygen tube instead.”
Ye Mingxin’s struggling ceased for a moment and she silently turned towards Qi Yu, “You’re more ruthless than I am.”
Qi Yu: “…” He had spoken some nonsense without thinking.
While they were arguing, Han Yiren was frowning at them the whole time.
Ye Mingxin waved her hand, motioning for Qi Yu to let go of her hand.
Qi Yu was still worried, but he let go as he stayed close to Ye Mingxin’s side. Ye Mingxin then turned her attention back to Han Yiren, no longer caring whether Han Yiren was injured or not as she fiercely yanked her hand free from Han Yiren’s gasp. Then she pinched Han Yiren’s chin before slapping her face twice.
The force she used was not strong, instead, it was more like pats than slaps, but the sounds seemed like actual slaps. From an outsider’s perspective, Ye Mingxin with her cold smile looked like she was bullying Han Yiren.
Qi Yu quickly glanced towards the door of the ward and then turned back when he made sure no one was looking.
Ye Mingxin spoke without a trace of warmth, “Take a good look at who I am.”
When Han Yiren first woke up from the surgery, it was not her eyes that saw things, but rather her subconscious. At that moment, she had seen who she most wanted to see. It was only Ye Mingxin’s slaps that made her wake up a bit. She squinted her eyes and suddenly realized that the person standing in front of her was not Han Feixu, but Ye Mingxin.
At that moment, Han Yiren’s expression became as stiff as marble.
At 7 o’clock in the morning, two policemen came to the hospital to inquire about the situation after having breakfast. They opened the door of the ward to see Han Yiren already awake, looking downcast and dispirited.
Ye Mingxin stood aside, and upon seeing them, she nodded, “I’m leaving now, you can ask her questions now.”
Before leaving, she glanced at Han Yiren again. After making eye contact, Han Yiren seemed to have seen something terrifying and immediately lowered her head as she dared not look at Ye Mingxin.
The policemen: “…..”
Qi Yu: “….”
Not long after the policemen arrived, Lan Zhu also arrived at the hospital. She parked her car at the entrance of a nearby Hong Kong-style tea restaurant, rushed down to buy a bunch of breakfast items, and then got into Ye Mingxin’s car.
Shortly after, Qi Yu also came out, and the three of them ate breakfast together in the car. Qi Yu recounted everything that happened the night before to her.
Lan Zhu had already heard about the car accident yesterday, but she was shocked to learn that there are people even bolder than her in this world.
Did Han Yiren have a death wish?? She actually dared to say she liked Han Feixu?! And in front of Ye Mingxin of all people?!
Lan Zhu quietly asked Qi Yu, “Is Han Yiren… okay?”
Naturally, Lan Zhu wasn’t actually concerned about Han Yiren. She was more worried about whether Ye Mingxin had done anything to Han Yiren. Qi Yu understood immediately and nodded at her, “Don’t worry, there are cameras in her hospital room, so nothing will happen there.”
Thankfully, there were cameras. If there were no cameras, it really would be hard to guarantee her safety.
After taking a bite of the abalone sauce beancurd roll and chewing it more than a dozen times, Lan Zhu finally swallowed. She turned her head and sneaked a peek at Ye Mingxin, whose mood was clearly very low with an aura of depression around her.
Lan Zhu kept silent and continued to eat her breakfast.
She was already grateful that her boss was willing to take her on an all-paid trip to Iceland. She didn’t want to upset her at this time.
Ye Mingxin only ate two siu mais* and a crispy beef ball. After finishing, she drank a few sips of water, sat with a wooden expression on her face for about two minutes, and then suddenly said, “I’m going to go home for a bit. Lan Zhu, you take the luggage straight to the airport for check-in. Qi Yu, aren’t you supposed to accompany your wife back to her parents’ place today? You should head back early.” (*T/N: a type of chinese dumpling served in dim sum)
Qi Yu agreed quickly while Lan Zhu curiously looked up, “Mingxin, what do you need to go home for? I’ve already packed the luggage. Do you want to bring something else?”
“Mhm.”
“Then let me go get it for you, or we can go together.”
“No need,” Ye Mingxin declined her offer, “I’ll go by myself. You wouldn’t know where the stuff is even if you went.”
“Alright then.” Lan Zhu didn’t insist further and continued to eat her food.
On the morning of the second day of Lunar New Year, Beijing’s traffic was extra congested as everyone prepared to go back to their parents’ homes*. It took Ye Mingxin a long time to finally get back home, only to find that the housekeeper and servants had all gone home for the New Year. Only the cleaning lady’s husband was left behind, currently fast asleep in the servant’s quarters. (*T/N: The second day of lunar near year (????, is known as ??? or “welcoming in-laws day”. On this day married daughters are supposed to bring their family/husband to their parents’ home to celebrate.)
As soon as Ye Mingxin entered, she was greeted by the thunderous sound of snoring. She was silent for a moment before heading upstairs.
The incident of Han Yiren’s car accident was like a leaf falling onto the surface of a river, causing ripples but making no sound. Lan Zhu had asked her if this was the end of it, but Ye Mingxin told her it couldn’t possibly end just like that. The reason it hasn’t caused a bigger stir is because Han Yiren currently doesn’t have the strength to deal with the aftermath. In order to prevent herself and Han Feixu from being involved, Ye Mingxin had Qi Yu handle all necessary arrangements overnight.
By the time she arrives in Iceland, the police would have roughly figured everything out and when the incident becomes public, there is bound to be a huge uproar online.
Madam Chang’s actions this time were simply courting disaster. Currently, the government’s top priority is cracking down hard on crime and corruption. Yet, she dared to commit such a blatant act of crime. Furthermore, Han Yiren isn’t one of those insignificant ants Madam Chang usually deals with. Han Yiren is still a celebrity and public figure after all. Even though she hasn’t been doing well these days, her fame is still higher than Madam Chang’s.
So, this matter is definitely not over yet, and it’s possible that Madam Chang will be made an example of.
This has nothing to do with Ye Mingxin anymore. After giving it some thought, she decided she’d remind her father to take this opportunity to profit from the Chang family’s misfortune and gain some benefits for their own family.
Originally, Ye Mingxin was supposed to arrive in Reykjavik with her family by the afternoon of the 6th. Now, it was 11 p.m. on the 7th when she finally arrived, exhausted from her journey.
Due to two air traffic controls en route, the flight was delayed by eight hours, and Ye Mingxin started entertaining thoughts of strangling both Han Yiren and Madam Chang.
When she arrived, most of her family were still asleep. Only Ye MingDe and Han Feixu came to pick her up, with Ye MingDe driving and Han Feixu sitting in the passenger seat, and the two came out to pick them up. Seeing her brother at the wheel, Ye Mingxin slightly raised her eyebrows, “When did you get your international driving license?”
“Got it two years ago. How else could I shuttle between so many countries?”
Han Feixu: “…”
The word ‘shuttle’ seems more like something used to describe fugitives fleeing a country.
Han Feixu kept silent and swapped places with Lan Zhu. She grabbed Ye Mingxin’s hands, which had turned cold due to being outside for so long, and warmed them up as she asked, “How is Han Yiren?”
Initially, Ye Mingxin’s eyes turned soft at Han Feixu’s warm gesture, but after hearing her question, her expression immediately collapsed, “Don’t mention her to me again.”
Han Feixu was stunned, “Why?”
“Just don’t mention her and don’t ask why.”
Ye Mingxin rarely acted so moody and unreasonably, and Han Feixu felt strange at seeing this side of her. She thought about it and decided it wasn’t an important matter; if she didn’t want her to mention Han Yiren, so be it. Besides, seeing Ye Mingxin’s attitude, Han Yiren probably was fine.
While their family was happily vacationing abroad, back home, it was a complete uproar.
The sudden public revelation of Han Feixu and Ye Mingxin’s relationship could at most maintain a day’s worth of attention, but the incident of Han Yiren being targeted for murder would sustain an entire month’s worth of attention. So long as the incident wasn’t resolved, it would be dominating the trending searches for a while.
Such is the nature of news; good news never spreads as fast or garners as much attention as bad news.
Meanwhile, Liang Zhu stayed in China for the holidays. Although she didn’t want Madam Chang to get away with murder, she also didn’t want Han Yiren to gain sympathy and rebrand her image through this incident to return to the public eye. Fortunately, her concerns were unnecessary. The car accident nearly cost Han Yiren her life, and while people felt sympathy for her, the more they sympathized, the more they wanted to know why she was targeted.
As the news heated up and the snowball grew larger, her relationship with Chang Hao was soon uncovered.
Having a bigwig lover is common among female stars, but Han Yiren was the only one reported by the police.
The official statement, written in a blue font with a black background, was “Chang and Han have maintained an improper relationship for a year.” Liang Zhu nearly laughed her head off at this statement.
This is the real life case of the saying “so shameful they ended up at the police station”. (*T/N: ???????)
Initially, Han Yiren’s fans refused to believe she was Chang Hao’s mistress and even challenged the authorities on the government’s Weibo to prove it. Well, they got what they asked for, not only did the government prove it, the fans received a hard smackdown at the same time.
The uproar at home was intense, with new information being uncovered every day. In today’s society, few will calm down the noise, but there are plenty who will add fuel to the fire. Han Yiren is just a minor celebrity and so her own shameful actions only affect her. But the Chang family is one of the most well-known financial conglomerates in the country. Their scandal drew almost everyone’s attention, and everyone wanted a piece of the action.
Families like the Ye, Jiang, and Yu, for instance, were discreetly trying to profit from the situation. Yu Tingxue, who managed their family’s company, wasn’t interested in the Chang family’s money. But while scrolling through Weibo in her bedroom, she suddenly remembered the Chang family’s youngest son had always openly liked Yin Jiahe.
Yu Tingxue narrowed her eyes.
Chang Hao was in a tough spot at the company. The one-sided public opinion was highly unfavorable to his family. His wife was smart enough not to get involved directly in the attempted murder of Han Yiren, so the police couldn’t find any evidence to charge his wife and it was crucial that his wife not be convicted. After some thought, Chang Hao decided to seek help from his higher-ups and was ready to spend any amount to dissociate his family from this incident.
Chang Hao was planning to visit a prominent figure in politics. Although public opinion was against them, the mainstream political figures hadn’t gotten involved yet. As long as it remained only an investigation and nothing more, there was still a chance to turn the situation around.
With that in mind, Chang Hao grabbed his coat and was ready to leave. But before he could step out of his office, his secretary, panic-stricken, ran up to him and said, “Chairman, the PLA News* and the Communication Center just reported on the Han Yiren case, and now People’s Daily, Purple Light Pavilion, and CCTV have all shared the PLA report on their sites.” (*T/N: PLA = People’s Liberation Army, they are the army of China)
Chang Hao felt a flash of dark in his vision, “What is this? Why would the military website pay attention to this?!”
The secretary stammered, “I-I don’t know, Chairman. What do we do now?”
Chang Hao’s greasy face turned ashen. What else could they do but hire the best lawyers and try to reduce their prison sentence as much as possible…
The case had been causing a stir for a week. Han Feixu and her family originally planned to leave on the 6th and return on the 13th, due to work and Yiyi returning to school on the 22nd. But seeing the continued attention on the case back home, they feared the media might catch a hint of their involvement upon their return and start hounding them. So they decided to have everyone else go back home first while Han Feixu and Ye Mingxin stayed for a few more days until the attention died down before going back.
Everyone had no objections to this decision at first, but it wasn’t until they were on the private plane that Yan Yueyong realized something was off.
They had sent everyone else away because the next day was February the 14th…
Yan Yueyong was speechless.
If they wanted a romantic getaway, they should’ve just said so! Why did they even bother making up so many excuses and making it seem like they were “forced” to stay behind?
They had wanted to stay behind this entire time!!
Regardless of the truth, with everyone else gone, only the two of them were left in that big castle.
On Valentine’s Day, they strolled in the streets of Reykjavik hand in hand, without their masks or sunglasses. Iceland is one of the more welcoming countries when it comes to same-sex relationships in the world and the streets were filled with all sorts of couples on Valentine’s Day including lesbian couples like them, and even female friends who weren’t couples but wanted to spend the day with their friends.
The distinction between the two types is hard to make, but no one cared as both types of relationships were quite common here.
Although the social environment in China has become more open to same-sex relationships, it hasn’t reached the level of casual acceptance as in Iceland.
A blue-eyed little girl cheerfully handed them a rose, and Han Feixu was pleasantly surprised as she accepted it. Just as she was about to thank her, the girl smiled and pulled out a card machine from her pocket, signaling for her to make a payment.
Han Feixu: “…””
So it wasn’t a gift after all = =
With a stoic face, Han Feixu swiped her card, and the jubilant girl moved on to sell flowers to others. Han Feixu turned and saw Ye Mingxin trying to hold back a laugh.
Feeling exasperated, Han Feixu handed the rose to her, “Here, consider this your Valentine’s Day gift from me.”
Ye Mingxin raised an eyebrow and smiled. Without a hint of dislike on her face, she first gently kissed the vibrant petals before kissing the corner of Han Feixu’s lips, “Thank you, darling.”
Han Feixu glanced at her sideways, “What about your gift?”
They had been together the entire time these past few days, so there wasn’t any time for Ye Mingxin to sneak off and buy a gift. Originally, they planned to spend Valentine’s Day back home, but unexpectedly, they had stayed in Iceland.
Han Feixu, ran the calculations in her mind before looking at Ye Mingxin smugly, “You didn’t prepare anything, right? It’s alright, I’m a very generous person. Let’s go to the mall now, and you can make it up to me by buying anything I like. I won’t ask for much, just seventeen or eighteen items.”
Seventeen or eighteen items….she might as well have just said seventy or eighty.
Ye Mingxin pouted, “But I have prepared something.”
Han Feixu was surprised, “What did you prepare? You clearly…”
Ye Mingxin looked at her calmly, “Clearly what?”
If she continued her sentence she would have revealed she had been snooping through Ye Mingxin’s things, so Han Feixu quickly pumped the brakes and said without looking at her, “…Clearly you’ve prepared something and didn’t tell me. You’re so evil.”
Ye Mingxin knew what she originally intended to say but didn’t expose her, “I wanted to surprise you.”
Now curious, Han Feixu turned back, “What are you giving me?”
Ye Mingxin smiled slightly, “I’ll tell you tonight. Let’s go, or we’ll be late for the concert.”
The Harpa Concert Hall is a landmark of Reykjavik, akin to The Little Mermaid* in Copenhagen. Ye Mingxin had booked two tickets for the evening concert, themed around Valentine’s Day. (*T/N: famous statue in Denmark)
Sitting in the front row, Han Feixu’s attention wasn’t on the beautiful music. She couldn’t hold back and eventually leaned in to whisper to Ye Mingxin, “What gift did you get me?”
Ye Mingxin didn’t even look at her, “Don’t talk, listen.”
Han Feixu: “…..”
Between the two of them, who was the one who grew up learning music?
