Translated by: Cherry

In Yisheng’s world, the person she did not want to mention the most was Lin Ruohan. That woman was like her predestined doom, ever since she appeared, all the good in Yisheng’s life had been ruined.

Lin Ruohan had first appeared when she had just entered Year Two in high school. She was a transfer student, a princess with a good aura that had become the class flower as soon as she entered the classroom. Her natural jet-black hair was like black silk drooping down, her white skin with reddish undertones made her seem especially like a princess. The deadliest of all was her watery large eyes, it made her seem especially pretty.

(T/N: The class flower means the acknowledged best looking girl in class, it’s a pair with the school ‘grass’, but I TLed it as its direct translation, ‘class flower’ because I felt that it’s more understandable than grass LOL, since calling someone a flower is more of a compliment in English.)

At that time, Yisheng was sitting by Song Anchen’s side. She used her elbow to poke his arm and asked, “Do you think that she’s pretty?”

Song Anchen had been doing math questions at that time. He had been disturbed by Yisheng and could only raise her head to look at the transfer student. He instantly paled, surprised. That gaze was as if he had seen a ghost. Yisheng was puzzled and used her elbow to poke him again.

Song Anchen said, “Very pretty.”

Could it be that she was so pretty that he thought he was looking at a ghost? When Yisheng had that thought, she felt unhappy.

Lin Ruohan introduced herself on stage without any shyness. She was from the capital, she was good at dancing and had gotten an award on television before. She also knew how to play the piano. The more Yisheng heard of her introduction, the more troubled she felt. This was the natural envy that girls were born with. Yisheng did not know anything, besides for how she liked eating, there was nothing else. She learned how to draw for a few years, but she had no accomplishments unlike Lin Ruohan, who had finished the sixth grade for piano and had gotten awards for dancing.

At that time, their city was not fully developed yet. People that were from the capital were naturally interesting to others, and the fact that she was a beauty who was very talented caused even more interest in her. The teacher assigned her to sit behind Yisheng. Lin Ruohan was very tall, taller than Yisheng by half a head.

Lin Ruohan’s seatmate was a nerd with a face covered in pimples. Although he did appreciate Lin Ruohan’s legendary beauty, his whole heart was set on his studies and he did not have any reaction. In contrast, the female and male classmates surrounding her would happily try to get close to her, and Lin Ruohan would respond to them one by one in a friendly manner.

Look, a kind and talented and good-looking pretty girl who even had a good background. This caused a lot of stress. This was originally something that did not concern Yisheng, but Lin Ruohan insisted on getting close to her childhood friend, Song Anchen, which caused Yisheng to feel very conflicted.

Their first sentence to each other sounded like they were extremely close. She poked Song Anchen’s back and said, “Brother Anchen, give me a ride home in the evening, alright?”
(T/N: The brother here is more of an ‘Oppa’. It just could be perceived as ‘flirty’, or be a legitimate way of addressing older siblings (or older sibling figures) as well)

Song Anchen’s face instantly turned green. He turned his face to look towards Lin Ruohan, “I’ve already told you, don’t call me brother.”

Lin Ruohan poked out her tongue in response, smiling cutely. Yisheng who had not dared to turn around this whole time could only glance at Song Anchen’s expression from the corner of her eye. His expression was one of annoyance. Because of this, she had been happy for a few class periods.

If someone asked her why she was happy? Think about it, if one had a childhood friend who was the first place in looks, who was also in the first place in grades, and whose personality might not be in first place but was well known to be gentle, would their heart not be moved at all?

That’s right, she, Ye Yisheng, has liked Song Anchen for a very long time. And from the time when they wore small pants and held hands to go home, till high school, when they rode bicycles and returned home together. As they were together all the time, the whole school thought of them as a couple. Although Song Anchen would frown a little every time he heard such a rumor, he would not deny it, so everyone thought that he was admitting it was true by being silent.

Yisheng also wanted to ask him directly, but she was scared that both of them would be awkward after she asked such a question. So, she kept their relationship ambiguous, an ambiguity that belonged to childhood friends but would often have a bit of helplessness to it.

But now, their world that had only the two of them had suddenly gained a third person. This princess that called Song Anchen brother, would force herself on them by following Song Anchen to the bicycle lots after they finished their self-study period and left school at night. She would then pester and force Song Anchen to let her sit on his bike.

Yisheng would stand by the side, realizing that she seemed like a third wheel. Watching how Song Anchen who was against it would give up in the end, Yisheng would follow behind them unhappily, riding on her bike.

However, Lin Ruohan, whose expression would be full of joy as she sat on the back of Song Anchen’s bike would act close to Yisheng and wave to her, calling out, “Sister Yisheng, hurry and catch up with us.”

From Yisheng’s point of view, she was not familiar with Lin Ruohan at all. When she was greeted so enthusiastically, she felt that it was like Lin Ruohan was flaunting her closeness. She pursed her lips, unwillingly following behind them. When they reached the crossroads, Song Anchen stopped his bike. He turned his head to tell Yisheng, “Yisheng, accompany me to send Ruohan back.”

Ruohan, he’s calling her in such a familiar way! Yisheng rolled her eyes at him, “I’m not so bored as to be a third wheel.” After she said that, she would ride her bike and head down the path to return home. She did not dare to turn her head back and would just ride back in a frenzy.

The two families moved to Feng Shan estate in year one of high school, and they were still neighbors living opposite each other then. Yisheng did not like returning home, because her mother had stomach cancer and she was lying in the hospital receiving treatment now. Her dad’s job was busy and he had to take care of her mom as well. Yisheng was attending school currently and so, Yisheng was always the only person at home.

When she returned home, she sat on the sofa alone. She hugged her knees, a little dazed. She looked at her empty house, her gaze empty. She had turned from a happy princess to a troubled princess, and she was even a princess that had been abandoned by her prince. Yisheng instantly felt upset, lowering her head and crying.

She did not know how long she cried, but she fell asleep. She was woken up by the sound of someone knocking on the door. She walked over to open the door and saw that Song Anchen was panting as he stood outside the door and smiled foolishly at her.
