“Madam is in the main courtyard. The Young Master went to the martial arts arena after dinner, though he should probably be asleep now.”

Xie Yi’s eyes suddenly filled with warmth. His wife was still alive and Xie Xuanchen…was also alive and well.

Xie Yi remembered that he had personally ordered Xie Xuanchen to be locked up in the mansion and placed an invincible black iron chain to seclude him. He would be shocked every time he thought of the final gaze that Xie Xuanchen gave him.

Xie Yi had been depressed ever since he gave this order. After all, Xie Xuanchen was his only son. After Yin passed away, his one and only closest relative was his son. How could he feel good about imprisoning Xie Xuanchen?

Xie Yi’s last impression of his past life was asking his brother to come into the palace for a conversation since he was never in high spirits. When he talked about the doubts about Xie Xuanchen’s madness, Xie Yi always expressed his thoughts and suspected that those victims did not die at the hands of his son.

His original intention was merely to discuss this with Xie Rui since he had made up his mind to investigate thoroughly. Talking to Xie Rui at that moment was just to give himself some psychological comfort. Hence, he was not prepared for his brother to take the opportunity to kill him.

The moment the weapon was headed towards him, Xie Yi also understood.

The victims were not killed by Xie Xuanchen.

But he only realised it when it was too late. Xie Yi had Xie Xuanchen locked up in the palace then and his movements were restricted. Xie Yi simply couldn’t imagine what had happened to Xie Xuanchen after his passing.

Perhaps the reluctance and regret that stemmed before his death was too strong. After all, when Xie Yi regained consciousness again, before him was the study room of the General’s Mansion. The servants had also told him that it was the Fourth year of Heping.

Xie Yi didn’t even bother to put on his clothes. He hurriedly put on his coat and walked quickly towards Xie Xuanchen’s yard.

Xie Yi walked so fast that the servants behind him could hardly keep up. He then pushed the door open with great force upon arrival, surprising everyone inside.

Xie Xuanchen looked up and a cold look suddenly appeared in his eyes. Seeing that it was his father, he was obviously surprised, “Why are you here?”

Xie Yi saw Xie Xuanchen again and suddenly choked up.

He remembered that when he saw Xie Xuanchen in the Qiyang Palace in his previous life, his son’s eyes looked like they were insane. Strangers were not allowed to approach him whilst his entire being was violent yet fragile. Everyone claimed that Xie Xuanchen had lost his mind because he committed too many sins and bloodbathed the military camp. As more people said so, Xie Xuanchen himself believed it. When Xie Yi heard of Xie Xuanchen’s situation, due to a lapse of judgement from shock and anger, he accused his son of slaughtering a mob of relatives and friends, deeming him unworthy of being a commander.

That was the most vulnerable period of time for Xie Xuanchen. He was the one who suffered most for accidentally killing his comrades who were like brothers to him. And Xie Yi, his father, blamed him regardless, adding fuel to his already unbearable guilt.

To be honest, Xie Yi regretted the decision afterwards. He and Xie Xuanchen had never gotten along. When the father and son duo were together, they were either silent or cold towards each other. Xie Yi had indeed uttered those words in anger and later wanted to make amends, but he never knew how to do it.
