She didn’t say anything back.
If Harris and Marry had met each other with nothing in their possession, things might have been a little different.
But… it was pointless to talk about what might have been.
“Alicia-sama, thank you so much. I can’t thank you enough for protecting the products in this store.”
After a moment of silence, the owner bowed very deeply to me.
…I did not recall doing anything to be thanked. I was just angry at the way those people were behaving.
I quietly told Gilles, “Oh my God, they thanked me,” to which he replied, “Of course they did,” a little taken aback.
But I felt better for having said what I wanted to say, so it was a win-win….
“It’s my pleasure.”
In case you’re wondering, I was also a young lady, so let’s act as if nothing had happened. A short reply would suffice in a situation like this.
The owner slowly looked up. His eyes looked somewhat moist.
I was confident that he would have handled Harris and the others well without me having to do anything. That was what I thought as I looked at him.
“I really am very sorry that my foolishness has caused you so much trouble. I apologize.”
The chairman bowed to the owner.
He must be a really accomplished businessman. …It was a great pity that he could not bring up his son properly as a member of the trading company.
He went through a lot of hardships, but his relationship with his son was not successful…, it was a common pattern.
“Well, I’ll be going.”
There was no point in staying any longer.
People were gathering outside the store, but I had a feeling that if I didn’t leave now, more and more people would be coming.
As I was about to leave the store, Isabella’s voice rang in my ears.
“Please wait.”
I turned my gaze toward her.
“Um…let me thank you.”
“Thank you? I don’t need anything.”
“Still! Alicia-sama saved my life. I thank Alicia-sama for helping me, and I owe her this store. Please!”
How could I refuse her as she bowed deeply?
I smiled and said, “I’ll gladly take you up on your offer”. There was no need to take advantage of someone’s goodwill.
“Now then…”
Gilles and I headed for the door and bowed lightly to the chairman.
He quickly handed me his business card and whispered in my ear.
“If you have any questions, I’m available.”
I quietly accepted the card.
It was plain white with the name “Gordon Auges” written in black letters. It was a simple card, but it seemed very valuable to receive one from him.
“Such as?”
“Well, something about the King’s mother for example.”
I responded, “I see,” and walked out of the store. I walked out of the store.
I stood there in front of the store in a daze, unaware that the people of the city were even paying attention to me.
