Gordon-san made a business smile. The air tensed a little.

I only learned about it this morning from Mother’s story…

It was quite difficult to build up a reputation again once it had fallen. It only took a moment for everything to crumble, but it took a long time to rebuild it.

“I will restore your credibility once more.”

“You think you can restore a rapidly declining reputation with the power of a single young lady from one of the five great noble families?”

Oh, I didn’t see that coming.

He truly was a businessman. He didn’t think it would be possible to restore his rapidly declining reputation with the power of a single noblewoman, did he?

I was not overconfident of my own power either, but I think I have a certain amount of influence. …When push comes to shove, I could rely on Duke-sama.

It was okay to be a villainess who took advantage of the prince once in a while.

“I’m sure Duke will be extremely pleased with that.”

Perhaps reading my thoughts, Gilles blurted that out next to me.

Was this kid an Esper? Was the deal with Duke-sama too obvious?

“Well, I am a villainess after all.”

He made eye contact with me, and after a moment his expression relaxed.

“How were your days in exile?”

“…Did you know?”

My eyes widened involuntarily.

How could Gordon-san know that? 

Most commoners didn’t know about my exile after all…

“I’m a wicked man, as well, despite how I look.”

“A wicked man would never call himself a wicked man.”

“I’ll take those words right back at you.”

Gordon-san laughed heartily as he said this.

“But really, how did you…?”

“I have access to information that even informants can’t get. There is no information in this town that I don’t know.”

I underestimated him, the head of the Gordon Trading Company.

Gilbert still looked as disinterested as ever.

“You would not trust the words of an exiled young lady?”

“No way.”

He laughed again.

You were a curious man, you know. I find this bold smile fascinating. Daring yet stern.

“But well, you could say that the fact that you were exiled and then returned to this country is the most credible proof of your trustworthiness.”

“Then, do we have a deal?”

“No.”

Gordon-san calmly declined.

What the heck was this man thinking? It seems like he couldn’t negotiate on trust alone…

What did he want? 

“I know that you are a brilliant person. You are charismatic and very attractive. I can understand why he would want to follow you, and I can understand why a prince of a country is in love with you. However, you are not ready to negotiate with me.”

…I don’t know. If he was interested in me that much, but he could at least provide me with information.

I know Julie-sama’s information would be very valuable.

No matter how much research I did, it was almost impossible to find. The only person who might have information on Julie-sama was Gordon-san.

“How can we negotiate a deal with you?”

I could not back out of the deal.
