[Vol. 2] Prologue: Good morning, Miss!
In an office, a stern man is sitting at a desk with his eyes closed, as if waiting for something.
Suddenly, there’s a knock on the door from outside, and the man opens his eyes.
Has the moment finally arrived?
“Come in,” he says.
With the man’s permission, the door to the office was opened. A person dressed in black uniform enters. The uniform bears a resemblance to the Shadow Guards under Yuluo’s command, but upon closer inspection, many details differ.
While Yuluo’s Shadow Guards primarily wear black with some silver on their uniform. The person in front of him, however, had colors other than black and silver on their uniform.
“Lord Xiao Xuan, it can be confirmed that Xiao Yuluo is most likely dead,” the newcomer reports as he enters the room, immediately kneeling on one knee before Xiao Xuan.
“Have you found the body?” Xiao Xuan asked.
Upon hearing the response, Xiao Xuan didn’t show any signs of happiness. The absence of a body implied that there was still a possibility of Xiao Yuluo being alive.
Even the slightest chance dampened Xiao Xuan’s spirits because if Xiao Yuluo was alive, it meant his carefully laid plans were at risk of being foiled.
“Not yet,” the man replies softly, fearing Xiao Xuan’s anger.
“A bunch of incompetents! You’ve been under my care for so many years, and this is how you repay me?”
Upon hearing this, Xiao Xuan became enraged and stood up to reprimand them. This caused the man to feel somewhat resentful inwardly, but he could only swallow his anger. After all, they were just slaves, their lives and deaths in the hands of their master.
After cursing for a few minutes, Xiao Xuan sits back in his chair, holding his head. He picks up the tea on the table and drinks it all in one gulp. Feeling somewhat calmer after finishing the tea, Xiao Xuan reflects on his recent outburst and realizes he may have gone too far.
“Alright, what about the Lin family?”
With Xiao Yuluo’s whereabouts unknown, there’s a high chance they won’t be able to stand still.
“They’ve already begun their operation, sir,” the man responds.
Xiao Xuan feels exasperated. How dare they act without his orders? What if something goes wrong with the plan? Can they handle the responsibility? Just because they managed to control that barely alive old man, do they think they’re invincible?
Xiao Xuan’s emotions surged again, but he quickly calmed himself down. He couldn’t let a bunch of idiots get to him. Since they had already started, he had no choice but to cooperate with them. Otherwise, the plan would fall apart. Now, all he could do was hope that Yuluo was truly dead.
…………
In a tidy room, a silver-haired girl slowly opens her eyes and gazes at the ceiling, lost in thought.
“Haa~”
Yinyue lets out a sigh and stretches lazily in bed. She slept quite comfortably last night, the first proper sleep she’s had in days.
“Ugh~ Why is Sister Yueyue waking up so early?” Suddenly, a voice interrupts.
At that moment, a black-haired girl emerged from the blanket next to Yinyue. It was none other than Xiao Yuluo.
It seemed like she accidentally woke her young lady up. She have to be more careful next time. Her young lady needed to maintain proper sleep.
“I’m sorry, Miss, did I disturb your sleep?” Yinyue apologized, scratched her cheek embarrassedly with her fingers.
“Not at all, I should thank Sister Yueyue for getting me up so early,” Yuluo shook her head, indicating she wasn’t bothered.
“So, Miss, is there a reason you’re up so early?” Yinyue was curious.
Yinyue woke up early to prepare breakfast and do chores, but she wondered why her young lady was up so early.
Yuluo moved closer to Yinyue, lying down on her lap and meeting her gaze.
“Because this way, I get to spend more time with Sister Yueyue today.” She murmured while reaching out to touch Yinyue’s silky silver hair.
“In that case, I mustn’t wake you earlier,” Yinyue replied.
“Why?” Yuluo was puzzled this time.
“Because…”
Yinyue tenderly caressed Yuluo’s head, like petting a kitten, and Yuluo cooperatively leaned into her touch, welcoming her affection.
“…I’m afraid you’ll get tired of me,” Yinyue confessed.
“Don’t worry, Sister Yueyue, you’re someone I’ll never tire of,” Yuluo reassured her.
Yinyue chuckled inwardly, realizing she was just speaking casually, but her young lady took it seriously.
“Um, Sister Yueyue, can I have a good morning kiss?” Yuluo asked.
Upon hearing this, Yinyue didn’t hesitate. She leaned in toward Yuluo, planting a soft kiss on her forehead.
“Good morning, my dear Miss,” Yinyue smiled.
During that battle, Yuluo used her body to shield Yinyue from Rhaenys’s abilities, resulting in temporary amnesia. Yinyue feels extremely guilty about it. Fortunately, apart from the temporary memory loss, hey young lady has no other issues, which is a blessing in disguise.
Yinyue has experience with her young lady’s amnesia in Yuluo’s mental world, so she knew how to handle it when Yuluo woke up.
Although the process was somewhat like deceiving a child, that didn’t matter. What mattered was gaining her young lady’s trust in the end.
But in reality, she didn’t do much to earn her young lady’s trust.
She wondered why her young lady trusted her so easily.
You shouldn’t trust someone that easily, Miss!!
Upon exiting the ruins, they discovered they were listed among the casualties of the exploration. In other words, to outsiders, they were considered permanently trapped inside the ruins.
The academy held a memorial service. Yinyue disguised herself with a cat mask and attended. Wang Shaojun cried buckets at the memorial, even saying he would eat her cherished snacks for her.
Yinyue almost jumped out to punch that guy at that moment.
She could understand if he didn’t think about making her something to eat, considering she hadn’t actually died.
But to covet her snacks was crossing the line.
Those were snacks she had been saving for a long time.
Originally, she was planning to sneakily take the snacks as well. This Wang Shaojun is still as annoying as ever, but she still managed to hold back.
After all, if they found out she was still alive, it would undoubtedly lead to a lot of trouble, considering how many things were involved in this incident.
If she suddenly showed up, she wouldn’t be greeted with warm hugs from my classmates. Instead, she’d be invited for tea by the Ability User Association, or worse, brought directly into an interrogation room.
Yinyue had heard about the horrors of the Ability Users Association’s interrogation room. If possible, she planned to never step inside it for the rest of her life.
“Alright, Miss, I’ll go prepare breakfast now. If you’re tired, you can sleep a bit longer.”
Yuluo obediently gets up from Yinyue’s lap. After all, Sister Yueyue had said so. If she continued to cling to her, she might make Sister Yueyue unhappy.
With her current state of temporary amnesia, the only person she could trust was Sister Yueyue.
Even if she doesn’t remember anything, her heart will not forget. She felt happy whenever she was with Sister Yueyue.
She didn’t want to upset Sister Yueyue. What if Sister Yueyue decided to leave her behind?
No matter what, Yuluo didn’t want to be disliked by the girl in front of her.
