[Vol. 2] Chapter 42: The Story of Two Kittens

As night fell, Yinyue and Yuluo arrived at the waterfall outside.

Yuluo used her special abilities to create a platform for them to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the night. However, they seemed more interested in each other than the view.

“Sister Yueyue, are you planning to tell a story here?”

Yuluo asked, sitting on the platform. The sound of the rushing water was like music, celebrating their arrival.

“Yes, Miss,” Yinyue replied.

She was ready to tell her young lady everything here.

The bright moonlight fell from the sky, making the girl’s silver hair shine even more brilliantly than during the day.

“I’m curious, Sister Yueyue, what kind of story will you tell me?” Yuluo placed her feet in the flowing water, playing like a child.

“It’s a story about two little kittens.”

Yinyue didn’t mind Yuluo’s impolite behavior, even though the splashing water had already soaked the hem of her dress. For Yinyue, the most important thing as a maid was seeing her young lady happy, which brought her immense satisfaction.

“Sounds like a fairy tale,” Yuluo said slowly.

“Miss can think of it however you like. Now, I’ll start the story.”

Yinyue looked up at the moon hanging in the sky, seeming to be lost in some memory. From her expression, it was clear that it was a very unforgettable memory.

“Alright.”

Yuluo nodded, stopping her playful actions with her feet. It seemed that she had been looking forward to Yinyue’s story for a long time.

“Ahem, I’ll begin. Once upon a time, there was a silver kitten who lived with her mother in a bustling city, leading a carefree life.”

Under Yuluo’s attentive gaze, Yinyue began to tell the story. For a brief moment, her eyes seemed to start getting red and reveal some emotion, but she quickly concealed it and continued the story.

“Question: Was the kitten male or female?”

Yuluo suddenly raised her hand, smiling playfully at the silver-haired girl in front of her.

“…Don’t interrupt me, Miss. If you must know, the silver kitten was a tall and mighty tomcat.”

Yinyue wasn’t angry about Yuluo interrupting her story. She paused for a moment, seemingly contemplating her young lady’s question, and then provided an answer.

“That’s too bad… It would have been better if it was a female,” Yuluo said with a disappointed expression.

“Ahem… I’ll continue. The silver kitten, unable to bear its mother’s constant busyness, made a life-changing decision.”

“Did it decide to become a cute female kitten?” Yuluo interrupted again.

“……”

This time, Yuluo’s comment left Yinyue speechless.

“Sorry, sorry, please continue, Sister Yueyue,” Yuluo apologized quickly, realizing she might have gone too far, leaving Yinyue at a loss for words.

“The kitten decided to venture out into the world, hoping to become a true and upright man, I mean, a tomcat,” Yinyue continued.

“During its adventures, the kitten noticed changes in its body. This was also a world where special abilities existed. To deal with the side effects of these abilities, the silver kitten made a deal with an organization,” Yinyue said.

“The organization wasn’t a good one, but as an upright kitten, the kitten pretended to follow their directives before the kitten wiped out the bad organization in the end.”

“The kitten successfully infiltrated the target group by disguising itself and rescued another kitten, who happened to be the group’s young lady. In contrast to the silver kitten, she was a black kitten.”

“Afterwards, the silver kitten, serving as the black kitten’s attendant, helped her in various ways, enabling the black kitten to grow and develop.”

“But it seemed that their relationship gradually developed into something more than just that of a master and servant. They even made a promise to each other,” Yinyue paused at this point.

“So, are they going to start a passionate love affair next?” Yuluo asked eagerly, her eyes sparkling with anticipation.

“No, they did not. The silver kitten previously considered abandoning its initial objective and trying to live happily with the black kitten, but it felt very guilty towards the black kitten for hiding everything from it.”

“In the end, the silver kitten chose to run away from the black kitten because the silver kitten was so afraid the black kitten would hate the silver kitten. The silver kitten couldn’t bear to keep lying to the black kitten any longer, so it finally decided to resume the mission it had previously abandoned.”

“After the silver kitten completed its initial objective, it left secretly, breaking their promise and leaving the black kitten alone.” Yinyue closed her eyes, signaling the end of the story.

“And what happens next?” Seeing that Yinyue had fallen silent, Yuluo asked.

“What happens next… the story has ended, Miss.”

Yinyue opened her eyes, and the previously concealed emotion was now visible—an expression of sadness.

“In that case, I’ll tell the rest of the story myself,” Yuluo said, unsatisfied with the story’s conclusion.

Since Yinyue didn’t intend to continue, Yuluo decided to create a perfect ending herself.

“Miss…”

Yinyue hadn’t expected that her lady would plan to write a continuation of the story herself. She put away her sad expression and smiled slightly.

“Then I’ll start the story. In fact, the black kitten already knew that the silver kitten would choose to leave. She intentionally let the silver kitten go,” Yuluo said as she stood up, looking into the distance, beginning the story’s continuation.

“Huh, but why?”

This puzzled Yinyue. If the black kitten knew the other would leave, why not take measures to stop it, instead of letting it go?

“Because the black kitten wanted to overcome difficulties on her own and didn’t want to burden the silver kitten any further. She also wanted to become the silver kitten’s support.”

Yuluo smiled slightly, crouched down, took Yinyue’s hand, and began to speak slowly.

“After that, the black kitten found the silver kitten, and they lived happily together.”

With this, the story has come to a happy ending……

“It sounds wonderful…” Yinyue said.

It wasn’t that she was dissatisfied with the ending, but she wondered if such a perfect conclusion truly existed.

“Yes, since it’s a story, why not make it as beautiful as possible?” Yuluo released Yinyue’s hand, sat down, and leaned on Yinyue’s shoulder.

“Because…” Yinyue was about to say something, but she was interrupted by a voice beside her.

“Because it’s your story, isn’t it, Sister Yueyue?” Yuluo said.

“Miss, you figured it out?”

“I can’t help it, your thoughts are just too easy to guess.”

“After all, have you forgotten that I’ve already regained some of my memories? Of course, I’d know right away.”

Although Yinyue had been telling her own story, she had made numerous cuts and modifications to it. She didn’t expect her lady to see through it so quickly.

From the moment Yinyue showed that particular emotion, Yuluo knew that the story Yinyue was telling had to be related to herself.

“But I lie to you.” Yinyue, who had been holding back her tears, now started to cry uncontrollably.

“Miss, you should already know that Sister Yueyue, whom you care about so much, is lying about her identity! She is a fake existence!! The fake existence that has been lying from the very beginning…”

Before Yinyue could finish her sentence, Yuluo leaned in and kissed Yinyue.

“Have you calmed down now, Sister Yueyue?” Yuluo asked gently, wiping away Yinyue’s tears.

“Sister Yueyue, it wasn’t a lie.”

“Was your care for me a lie? Was the Sister Yueyue who took care of me back then a different person from the Sister Yueyue I’m facing now?”

“You’ve never lied to me, Sister Yueyue. You’ve only been lying to yourself.”

“Sister Yueyue once told me to not live with my past but to live my life. But till now, you are still fixated on your past self and not ready to move forward.”

Sister Yueyue was the guiding light in Yuluo’s life. Without her, Yuluo might still be the timid, cowardly girl she once was, too afraid to fight for anything. But now, she would never give up, determined to fight for Sister Yueyue.

“So, have you forgiven yourself, Sister Yueyue?”

Yinyue fell silent, enveloped by a profound stillness that stretched for several moments. For several long moments, she remained suspended in that silence, like a statue carved from the weight of unspoken thoughts and swirling emotions.

“Miss, you don’t hate me, right?”

“Sister Yueyue, I’ve never hated or blamed you for leaving me back then,” Yuluo said.

“Really?” Yinyue wiped away her tears.

“Truer than pearls.” [1]

“Listen, Sister Yueyue, it wasn’t just your choice. It was also my choice, or rather, our choice.” Yuluo continued.

“Miss…”

“Yes?”

“Thank you.”

“Mmm~”

After that, they sat in silence, side by side, with their eyes closed and their hands intertwined. Yinyue felt a sense of tranquility wash over her as she listened to the gentle whisper of the wind and the soothing sound of the waterfall cascading nearby.

Words were unnecessary between them. In this shared silence, their bond spoke volumes, expressing emotions that transcended any language.

“Sister Yueyue, are you ready?” Yuluo’s voice broke the silence.

“Ready for what, Miss?”

“Back to our room. There is a saying that the battle in bed is most enjoyable after the couple has resolved their problems.” Yuluo said with a mischievous grin.

“Miss, your character is back to the factory setting!!” Yinyue’s tension dissipated, and her expression softened back to its usual.

“Hehe, I was just kidding. I just didn’t want Sister Yueyue to get too tense. After all, there will be plenty of time in the future for us to battle on the bed.”

Yuluo also became happy as she saw Yinyue return to her usual self.

“Miss!!”

“Shy Sister Yueyue is the cutest.”

“I’m not cute.”

After this conversation, Yinyue realized that her young lady had known all along. She thought to herself that she had been foolishly led around by her young lady.

However, the thing that had been weighing on her heart seemed to disappear. It carried away her worries and lifted her spirits to a place of carefree joy, which made her very light.

It was a sensation so unfamiliar yet so welcome. There was a lightness in her step as she looked towards the future with renewed hope.

[1]

This was the sentence Yinyue said to Yuluo in the prologue of Volume 1.

Looking into Xiao Yuluo’s watery eyes, Yinyue sighed, leaned closer, and hugged Xiao Yuluo.

“I promise, I truly don’t harbor any animosity towards you, Miss, and I’ll never dislike you, my dear Miss, ever.”

“Really…” Xiao Yuluo wiped away her tears.

“Truer than pearls.”
