[Vol. 2] Chapter 44: It Would Be Great to Have Some Popcorn
After a long wait, they were finally transported into the organization’s headquarters.
Yinya and her group were put into a small cell. Besides a glass panel on the iron door that allowed observation of the outside, the rest of the cell was completely sealed.
Xia Qiuxue observed through the glass and saw a few guards outside. However, they seemed uninterested in their job, playing cards on the floor and completely ignoring Yinya and her group.
Is this the place where they detain test subjects? The guards are surprisingly lax. It seems they have great confidence in the handcuffs that suppress ability users.
“Is it time to take action now?”
After observing for a while, Xia Qiuxue confirmed that it was a good time to act. She sat back down and asked the girls.
“I think it’s time to make a big move.”
Yinya was impatient. She had waited so long just to turn these scumbags into mincemeat.
“Miss Yinya, according to the plan, we should proceed stealthily,” Yuluo quickly interjected, seeing that Yinya wanted to go out and start fighting.
“But I think it’s better to just go on a rampage here,” Yinya said.
“No, doing that might let some slip through the net. It’s better to catch them all in one go quietly,” Yuluo responded.
“Alright.”
Yinya agreed reluctantly. She never imagined she’d have to resort to stealth, she’d much rather smash her way through with her hammer.
“According to the plan, we need to go to the main control room first and lock down the entire base.”
Yuluo outlined their mission objective: the base’s main control room. Once they secured that, everything else would be manageable.
“Got it, got it,” Yinya said, as she easily broke her handcuffs.
These cuffs might restrain other ability users, but to an S-class ability user like Yinya, they were just flimsy pieces of metal. Breaking them was easier for Yinya than eating a meal.
The sound of the metal hitting the ground caught the attention of the guards outside. After a brief discussion, they decided to send one of their colleagues to check.
Though reluctant, the chosen guard approached the cell and peered through the bulletproof glass in the door.
Strange? Is there one less person? He recalled that the number of people in the cell should be different. Maybe he remembered wrong.
He scratched the back of his head, pondering the situation. Suddenly, he felt a tap on his back. Turning around, he saw Yinya right in front of him.
“Surprise,” she said, before landing a heavy punch on him. He blacked out instantly, unable to react.
The others finally put down their cards when they heard the commotion. But at that moment, they began to feel dizzy, their vision blurred, and one by one, they collapsed.
Next to them, a strange flower had bloomed at some point, releasing a scent that put them into a deep sleep.
“By the way, with us coming out so obviously, won’t we be caught by the surveillance cameras?” Xia Qiuxue asked.
If the people in the control room noticed them, all their efforts might be in vain.
“Don’t worry, I’ve already tampered with the cameras here. In the control room, they’ll see us still quietly sitting in our cell,” Yuluo said, flipping her hair. She had started controlling and modifying the surrounding surveillance cameras as soon as they arrived.
As for how Yuluo could use her abilities despite wearing handcuffs, it was because she had modified the handcuffs before putting them on. For her, they were just decorations.
“So that’s how it is,” Xia Qiuxue said.
That explained why Yuluo dared to use her powers against the guards—she had prepared in advance.
“Next, we need Bailian to lead the way to the main control room,” Yuluo said, patting “Yinyue” on the shoulder.
“Yinyue” didn’t say anything, remaining expressionless, but nodded and started leading them.
On the other side, Dr. Cheng led “Bailian” into a laboratory. The environment made “Bailian” uncomfortable, with various tools on the table still stained with blood.
It seemed that many tragedies had occurred in this place, and the culprit behind it all was the person in front of her.
Dr. Cheng didn’t notice anything wrong with his creation, as he didn’t bother to understand their personalities or preferences. He only cared about their abilities, which was why the Yinyue disguised as Bailian went unnoticed.
“Welcome back, Number Seventeen. It’s all because of those Lin family people. If it weren’t for them, you wouldn’t have been missing for so long!”
The smile vanished from Dr. Cheng’s face, replaced by an expression of anger. He slammed the table forcefully, venting his frustration. Some tools fell to the ground, and the room echoed with the sound of metal hitting the floor.
It was evident that Dr. Cheng had long been dissatisfied with the Lin family, and the disappearance of his creation because of them only fueled his anger further.
Did he just mention the Lin family? It seems this organization is connected to the Lin family.
However, Yinyue still couldn’t confirm the nature of their relationship. It should be a collaborative one, otherwise, this eccentric person wouldn’t be cursing them in front of her.
“It doesn’t matter, we’ve successfully found you now,” Dr. Cheng suppressed his emotions and once again revealed the unsettling smile that made Yinyue uncomfortable.
‘Do you even realize how creepy your smile is?’ Yinyue internally remarked, feeling like she couldn’t bear it anymore.
“Now, let’s continue our experiment,” Dr. Cheng picked up some unknown object and slowly approached Yinyue.
This guy really doesn’t take a hint. Yinyue clenched her fists, preparing to punch him in the face.
The door to the laboratory opened slowly, and a figure walked in, causing Dr. Cheng to halt his actions.
“Oh, if it isn’t Young Master Lin from the Lin family? What brings you here?” Dr. Cheng adjusted his glasses and addressed Lin Hongzhen, who had just entered.
Although Dr. Cheng said “what brings you here,” Yinyue didn’t think he sounded welcoming at all.
“You have the nerve to ask me? You should know my purpose for coming here,” Lin Hongzhen replied.
Then, the two began to argue in front of Yinyue.
Listening to the two of them sarcastically bantering in front of her was… quite entertaining. It would be nice to have some popcorn in hand, but unfortunately, it’s not possible.
