In Place of Losing My Memory, I Remembered That I Was the Fiancée of the Capture Target - Chapter 5.11
**(Rebecca’s POV 3)**
The next day.
When I arrived at the academy, I heard that Alexia had fallen down the stairs and injured herself. —Could she have been pushed down?
Worrying about the poisonous plant from yesterday, I attended my morning classes and headed to the cafeteria.
“Rebecca!”
I looked up to see Liam beckoning to me from the seat above. Beside him were the prince, Bridget, and Patrick. …It took courage to join them, but it was probably about Alexia. I took my lunch and walked over to them.
Bridget, who usually appeared strong-willed, looked like she was about to cry. The prince also looked visibly pale. What on earth happened?
Liam explained to me what had happened to Alexia yesterday. She fell down the stairs while protecting Bridget.
“…So… how is Alexia doing?”
“She took a hard blow to her leg, but she should be fine as long as she rests,” Patrick answered.
“I see…”
Stair fall, albeit a bit different from the game…
The bad things that keep happening to Alexia, mirroring the game. “…And now there’s poison…”
“Poison?” Patrick reacted to the word I inadvertently muttered.
“Oh… no…”
“So, the research you did yesterday was related to Miss Bertini?” Liam’s words made Patrick’s gaze turn stern.
“What are you talking about?”
Patrick’s gaze turned grim at Liam’s words.
“…Well… I read about a poison with symptoms similar to those Alexia had when she lost her memory…”
I couldn’t mention about the game, but there was no need to hide the poisonous plant. So I decided to answer.
“Yesterday, Liam-sama allowed me into the royal library, and I found a plant that causes paralysis, high fever, and even memory loss depending on the dose…”
“What?!”
Everyone was shocked.
“This poisonous plant… it can only be found in the Lestancourt territory.”
“Lestancourt?” The prince spoke up. “That’s… Theodore’s family estate.”
“Theodore’s?”
“…Now that you mention it, Theodoro has been knowledgeable about plants since he was a child.”
“I need to see Xia.”
With a loud clatter, Patrick stood up.
I got a ride in Patrick’s carriage, and together with the prince and the others, we headed to the Bertini household.
“Oh… ladies and gentlemen…” The lady who greeted us looked very pale, giving me a bad feeling.
“How is Xia?”
“Well… she suddenly developed a high fever… she’s unconscious… we’re calling a doctor now.”
“What?!”
Patrick ran to Alexia’s room. I, His Highness, and Liam followed him down the long hallway.
“…Miss Stephani, do you think Theodore poisoned Sia?” The prince muttered quietly.
“Given the situation and Theodore-sama behavior so far, it’s highly likely.”
—I had a strong conviction due to my knowledge from the game, which they didn’t have, but it was probably hard for the prince to comprehend. It was unthinkable that Theodore, his cousin, and someone who loved Alexia, would do such a thing.
“For what reason…”
“…Most likely, to take away Alexia’s freedom and keep her confined at home.”
“…Ah…” The prince sighed deeply.
“Honestly, I’ve thought about it too… How wonderful it would be to keep Xia all to myself.”
So he had considered it…
Even the prince has that yandere tendencies…
“But… even though I’m pretty sure Theodore-sama did use poison… there’s no proof.”
Even if I’m convinced, I can’t prove it. Suddenly confronting Theodore wouldn’t make him confess. If we could at least confirm Alexia was poisoned… or that the poison was present in this house…
“Rebecca, take this.”
While I was pondering a solution, Liam handed me something. It was a small vial filled with a clear liquid.
“What’s this…”
“A reagent that detects poison.”
“—What?”
“If you put it on food or drink containing poison, it turns purple. Since you were researching poisonous plants yesterday, I thought you might need it, so I brought it from home.”
“…Thank you…”
He’s so thoughtful… It might be useful.
“…Why do you have something like that?” The prince asked, his face slightly twitching.
“After my grandfather was almost poisoned by a political enemy, we always keep it on hand. I’m sure the royal family has some as well.”
“…I didn’t expect the chancellor’s family to have it as well.”
Oh… I remembered. This was an item used in the game too. It was something that proved poisoning… In the game, the prince said it was a secret medicine passed down in the royal family…
But with this, we might be able to do something.
I clenched the vial tightly.
