Let's Educate! A Reincarnated Young Lady Decided to Change Common Sense. - Chapter 10
My Niece ~Belladonna Perspective~
(Belladonna PoV)
She has no idea how difficult it is for a noble or even royal family to marry a commoner.
She brushes off David’s efforts and political expertise that made it possible, as well as the seriousness of the decision of her father-in-law, the former King, to let go of such an outstanding talent, by saying that it was “just a matter of fate”.
Neither her brother-in-law David nor her father-in-law, His Majesty the King, would ever be able to recover.
“I really pity them.”
“What?”
“It’s nothing. So, would you introduce me to my lovely niece now?”
“Oh, sorry. This is my sweet, sweet daughter, Amelia. Amelia, this scary looking person is your Aunt Bella.”
“(angry)… you, seriously, sigh… Hello there, Amelia, this is your aunt, Belladonna. Nice to meet you.”
When I “looked” at her, Amelia looked down a little frightened, then stared back at me as if to observe me again, but she didn’t cry the whole time.
“You’re quiet, or rather, more mature for your age. Usually, when children see my face, they cry.”
“Isn’t it sad to say that about yourself?”
“It’s true, though. When my son cried so hard looking at me, I was really upset. Most babies cry when they meet me for the first time. That has mostly been the norm for me, but this kid is an anomaly. I guess I should have expected this from Alyssa’s child.”
“Are you trying to badmouth me as soon as we meet?”
“No, I’m not. It’s a compliment. This kid certainly has a lot of guts, you know… it’s kind of terrifying what she will be like when she grows up.”
“That sure is true, she rarely cries, and she’s an unruly child. She never interrupts my reading. But I wouldn’t say she has many guts. On the contrary, she reads her surroundings so well that you would think that she is not a baby at all.”
Alyssa continued.
“She is constantly observing her surroundings and thinking about how she should act in a given situation. Sometimes she looks like an adult, staring at the ceiling and thinking.”
“Well, I suppose it’s inevitable that she’s different because of her bloodline, but…”
“What do you mean by that?”
“I literally mean exactly what I said. What about her magic power? I’ve heard a lot about you, but…from the looks of it, it’s not entirely false.”
“You mean her magical power amount? I don’t care about that. She’s only one year old, and I won’t be measuring the amount of magic in the temple until she’s three years old.”
“Well, that’s true. But as a parent, you would have some idea of your child’s magical power if you interact with her regularly, wouldn’t you? Besides, you were the most sensitive to magic power in the academy, so why wouldn’t you be able to sense your child’s magic power?”
“Well…I have a vague idea. To be frank, I think it’s pretty low.”
“Is there a problem?” was what Alyssa’s expression showed, while being nonchalant about it.
In this country, especially among the country’s nobility, low magical power was a fatal flaw that was equivalent to having a handicap like the missing limbs.
I fell silent and looked at my new niece with an indescribable feeling.
As the daughter of the Marquis Vostok, a noble by birth and a family that places particular emphasis on powerful offensive magic, low magic power was a fact that was hard for me to embrace, as it was equivalent to being denied everything I lived for.
“David seems quite concerned about it, but to be frank, I’m not too concerned with it.”
Alyssa is not just being stubborn or evasive, she truly understands this.
“Unlike Bella, we’re not originally nobles. Besides, if it comes down to it, we can just go to another country where we won’t be discriminated against so strongly because of magic power or something. Well, we’ll manage somehow.”
Alyssa’s nonchalant answer made me sigh heavily.
“It may be fine with you, but David-sama is royalty. In general, if David-sama leaves this country now, his Majesty Carlos and I will die.”
“Well, I think it will be all right. I have faith in my little girl.”
The two of them enjoy their afternoon tea while chatting about such trivial matters (which, in fact, could be a serious matter that could affect the future of the kingdom’s national politics).
“Come to think of it, we haven’t celebrated Amelia’s birthday yet.”
Trying to change my mood, I have an attendant bring the items I have prepared for her.
A few moments later, the attendant who was instructed earlier returned with a white Hardwood box tied with an elaborate patterned ribbon.
“I wonder if you would accept this as a gift for the birth of Amelia?”
Alyssa carefully unwraps the beautiful ribbon and reveals its contents to Amelia.
Inside was a strange-looking teacup with a cherry blossom petal design on a light purple base.
Alyssa takes the bowl out of the box and places it on the cloth spread on the table with careful gestures.
“What do you think? The name of the bowl is Dawn. I thought it would be perfect for Amelia’s hair and eyes. It has a strong history, and even if Amelia has to hold a tea ceremony with the nobility in the future, she won’t be mocked.”
Alyssa became slightly paler at my words.
“If any aristocrat tries to be nasty about this, that person will be considered to be fighting against the royal family and Yamato, since Amelia will eventually have to interact with the nobility as well, you should have at least this.”
*
In celebration of Amelia’s birth, the Queen personally presents Amelia with a precious tea set that was given to her by Yamato as a token of friendship.
This is tantamount to the royal family acknowledging Amelia’s existence and declaring that they are backing her.
Alyssa was enjoying the slow afternoon, thankful to her best friend who was taking care of her niece, who perhaps had a limited amount of magic power.
