162. Mari-Nee and the Battle Under the Moon (Part 3)

“Now, how will you withstand this… the one who breaks through?”

Withstand it? There’s no way Gils could survive another one of those attacks.

Fortunately, it seems she can’t unleash them consecutively, but instead, the attacks that the nine Roulette-sans had been launching earlier are now being unleashed by the single remaining Roulette-san.

The only silver lining is that with just one opponent, predicting the attacks has become significantly easier.

As the defensive battle continued, Gils tried to move and dodge from his position.

But no matter how fast he moved, the attacks unerringly found their mark.

It wasn’t just homing in—it was as if the attack was predetermined to hit, like a cheat.

Eventually, the attacks stopped, and the foot that had struck down was raised again, pointing towards the sky.

And like the hand of a clock, it began to slowly trace a circle.

The remaining time we have… is until that foot points straight up again, isn’t it…?

As time mercilessly ticked away, I racked my brain.

An inescapable, guaranteed fatal blow.

Even if I weave a shield from Magic Silver threads to protect Gils, it would probably be no more than paper.

With the approaching deadline, no solutions came to mind, and my anxiety only grew.

What should I do? What if I lose someone again, like I did with Nero and Kuuga…?

In that instant, the scattered thoughts in my mind connected, sparking an idea.

Ideally, I’d like to think it through carefully, but there’s no time for that.

The rough plan I came up with was met with silent agreement from Gils and Vel.

I’ll give it my all to live up to the trust they’ve placed in me.

Though Gils hasn’t changed his position, Vel now perches on his right hand.

Vel, being the key to this plan, wore a tense expression.

Still, with those large, round eyes, the sense of cuteness couldn’t be shaken off.

I placed my hands on the ground and began weaving threads of Magic Silver.

As the seconds ticked by, just as I finished my preparations, Roulette-san’s foot once again pointed directly upward.

“Gils!”

“Leave it to me!”

At my signal, Gils swung his right hand, launching Vel into the air.

Immediately, I deployed what I had prepared.

A silver wall, woven from Magic Silver threads, appeared, shielding Gils from view.

Now, the real battle begins.

“Piyo! Piyoyo! Piyoyoyo!!!”

At the moment Vel’s voice rang out three times from above…

An instant later, a shockwave struck the silver wall.

I never thought this would completely block the attack, but just before it could reach Gils, I sensed it.

In that brief moment, I brought Gils back.

The wind howled, raging as it lost its target.

However, the attack didn’t redirect towards anything else.

My hunch was right—because the attack was guaranteed to hit its target, if the target disappeared, the attack lost its purpose.

Raising my arm to shield myself from the fierce wind, I charged toward Roulette-san.

If the next attack requires as much preparation as the last, I can reach her in time.

“You’ve skillfully evaded a fatal skill… But that wasn’t everything, you know?”

Her ominous words made my heart skip a beat.

There were nine gashes on the ground.

And there had been nine Roulette-sans transformed from fireballs.

Roulette-san herself—the tenth—might still have an attack left.

My bad feeling was confirmed as I saw Roulette-san preparing to launch another kick.

There was no way to defend against it, so I braced myself, shutting my eyes tight, expecting the pain… But the kick was unexpectedly stopped.

It was halted by none other than Roulette-san herself.

“Finally awake, are you…?”

A calm male voice resonated.

“…Thanks to you, I feel absolutely terrible.”

Roulette-san’s familiar voice overlapped with the man’s.

Looking closer, I saw her eye color shifting from blue to a deep crimson.

“I won’t allow you to hurt Maria-san any more than this… with my own hands.”

The leg that was about to strike awkwardly returned to its original position.

“Your resolve is commendable… but you’re still too weak to repay the debt.”

“Guh… Aaaaarghhh!”

This feeling… Wait, is this the Queen of Slaughter mode!?

Even though Roulette-san had regained control from the man, the influence of Raksasha hasn’t disappeared.

Watching Roulette-san writhe in agony, I closed the distance and hugged her tightly.

During the event, Nero’s cat punch had brought her back to her senses, but Nero was no longer here.

What should I do now…? I don’t want Roulette-san to suffer any more.

Just as the image of Roulette-san’s gentle, smiling face flashed through my mind…

A sky-blue light caught my eye in the darkness.

This color… could it be…?

In my hand, I held an earring adorned with protective stones.

It was glowing, and the glow was gradually intensifying.

“Yoshua-san once told me, didn’t he? That these protective stones listen to our wishes. If that’s true…”

Clinging to that faint hope, I placed the earring in Roulette-san’s hand.

Then, I focused my thoughts intently.

On my precious friend, the first true friend I made in this world.

On Roulette-san, who is always kind and dependable.

The protective stone’s light grew stronger, creating a small, bright sky in the middle of the dark night.

Under this unlikely sky, a blue light began to seep out of Roulette-san, and it slowly transformed into the figure of a slender man in his forties, with long hair tied back.

“A feeling strong enough to drive me away… seems you no longer need to repay the debt, right?”

To the man’s question,

“Yes… I’m fine without having to repay any debts.”

Roulette-san met his gaze and answered clearly.

Hearing her response, the man seemed to smile faintly… before disappearing.
