Mebius World Online – Mari’s VRMMO Diary, Embarking on a Laid-back Adventure as a Novice - Chapter 163
163. Mari-nee and Reunion Under the Moonlight
The battle was over, and Roulette-san was talking with the man.
I knew of their relationship from what I’d heard along the way.
There must have been so many things they wanted to say, so many feelings they had to share.
Yet, their conversation was brief.
It wasn’t out of shyness—I could tell that much.
Though their exchanges were sparse, the air between them was serene.
I think every word they spoke carried layers of meaning and emotion.
Not wanting to intrude, I stood a little distance away with Vel and the newly called-back Gils, quietly watching over them.
As they continued to speak, with the moon having traveled a significant distance across the sky, the man suddenly murmured, “The time has come…”
Following his gaze, I noticed a faint light beginning to emerge in the far reaches of the night sky.
“You are not alone… so don’t let others be alone, either.”
Roulette-san nodded firmly in response.
The growing light in the sky illuminated them both in stark contrast.
The man’s blue silhouette seemed to dissolve into the light, while Roulette-san was bathed in it, as if being brought to the forefront.
“The Raksasha will eventually ascend to the heavens… You have ascended as well. From now on, you will be True Raksasha, no longer Berserk Raksasha… That is your new self.”
“True Raksasha…”
As Roulette-san whispered the name, the man gave her a fleeting, gentle look before turning his gaze toward me.
“O one who breaks through… I’ve caused you trouble.”
As he lowered his head in apology, I quickly shook mine.
“It wasn’t any trouble. I just wanted to be with Roulette-san, that’s all.”
“That’s all, is it… as expected of the one who breaks through.”
“Um, about that title… Could we change it? It’s kind of embarrassing, and honestly, it could be easily misunderstood.”
But before I could finish, he continued, “I thank you… and, swearing by this unbreakable bond, I entrust this to you.”
“Did he just ignore me!?”
Ignoring my shock, the man raised his hand towards the sky, and a golden light descended.
The light came directly toward me, transforming into a golden thread as it did.
Though I called it a golden thread, it was more of a warm, soft glow, gentler than any gold I’d ever seen.
When I took it into my hand, the name Thread of Heaven appeared.
“It’s time… Be well…”
With those final words, the man’s figure disappeared into the scarlet sky.
Along with Roulette-san’s glasses…
Staring at the empty space where he had been, Roulette-san muttered, “Before you wish for my well-being, at least tell me your name… idiot.”
Her smile was awkward, but tears were streaming down her face uncontrollably.
I moved closer, gently taking her hand in mine.
She squeezed back, and through that touch, I could feel her emotions.
A mix of loneliness and gratitude, warm enough to rival the light of the approaching dawn.
